Here's the link for the site and article, written by Susan Foster on 9/21/13, complaining to Congress that E-cigs should be banned:
FDA missing in action on e-cigarettes - The Hill's Congress Blog
My response to her as a 'comment':
As a 40 year smoker, who literally tried everything possible to quit, I can tell you that e-cigarettes probably saved my life. Within 7 days of smoking e-cigarettes, I never needed another cancer stick. According to the NIH, there are numerous other chemicals contained in cigarettes, besides nicotine, that are incredibly dangerous and additive, chemicals not found in e-cigarettes. However, the majority of risk from cigarettes comes from Tar... formed by burning. E-cigarettes do not burn. E-cigarettes vaporize either vegetable glycerin or propylene glycol, the exact ingredients used to dilute medical asthma inhalers.
In the last few months, I have met dozens upon dozens of former smokers with the exact same story as mine. You can find them on multiple forums on the internet, one of the larger forums having nearly 160,000 members, many of whom have quit smoking due to e-cigarettes.
You do a tremendous disservice to your constituents who have been trying to quit for years by attempting to ban the only lifesaving device that exists which consistently works. Nicotine is addictive yes, but not deadly like the tar found in cigarettes. In addition, studies have been done that prove there is no second-hand smoke whatsoever produced by e-cigarettes (again, nothing burns).
The bottom line is that this is saving lives that would otherwise be lost, and you want it banned. The question of how many lives risked should be asked of you, not the FDA.
