New petition launched on Change.org as White House Petition reaches goal

by Mike Mueller
Petition Organizer

A new petition to the United States Congress to intervene and prevent the FDA from using its regulatory authority in the product category of electronic cigarettes, popularly known as "personal vaporizers" or simply "PV's" by their users has been launched on change.org. The petitioners maintain that since the FDA has urged smokers to continue smoking and not use the safer e-cigs on its website, and since the FDA has spread mis information at that same website and in other public comments, the FDA is not qualified to regulate these products and that regulation, if any, should be implemented at local levels.

The petition organizer, Mike Mueller, states, "had the FDA not lied and relied on real studies, and acted as a science based agency, rather than as a biased entity trying to keep the status quot intact, this petition would have never been necessary. In that case the industry and the public could confidentially work along with their government to adopt sensible regulations ".

FDA recieves 5,366 comments. Only 23 for public view

by Mike Mueller
Petition Organizer

The FDA solicited two dockets requesting public comments on their proposed "deeming regulations" that would affect e-cigarettes. According to their website they received 5,366 comments from interested members of the public. Of these 5,366 comments, the FDA is only displaying 23 on their site at Regulations.gov .

The fact that so many people took the time to let their views be known is heartening, However, the FDA's refusal or inability to display these responses to all of these interested parties is one more example of why people that could be affected by the deeming regulations might be better off working with their elected officials and not a closed bureaucracy.

You might want to change one of the sentences. "in fact, it would be better if Congress ordered the FDA to adopt a strict hands off policy (delete "to the FDA") with regards to e-cigarettes etc. etc."

You don't need the second mention of the FDA.

You still didn't fix this one, Mike. The sentence doesn't make sense as is.
