All up in your grill..
For me it isn't as strong. It has been nearly 18 months since I lit up a marlboro mild. But I remember the impulse to smoke like it was yesterday. Now often I will forget to vape and go for hours without picking up an e-cig. Although I do am certainly still addicted chemically and psychologically I would say the impulse to vape isn't half what the impulse to smoke was. How about you? More? The same? Less? Gone?

Nicotine is one reason, but there are others, including the feel of an analog, and the other chemicals you get from tobacco. That's why some people are using Snus. Another explanation is here -> This is your brain on nicotine

Not NEARLY as bad.

There were many times I HAD to have a smoke.
And when those times came, having one became THE top priority.

I have never had that feeling with vaping.
Not once have I HAD to vape right away, top priority.

Also, like you, I can forget to vape sometimes.
I never in my life, not even once, ever forgot to smoke.

For me the oral fixation is worse than the actual nic fixation. So I've been using mostly 0mg juice for the majority of my sessions and finding that my cravings are much more noticeable and frequent simply because I can get that "hand to mouth" with out the sick feelings, dizziness, or guilt that comes with smoking an analog.

My biggest trigger for smoking was driving. I'd immediately want a cigarette when I got into my car. Secondly, it was after a large meal (lunch or dinner). With vaping I find myself jonesing for a "vape" after eating for sure as well as when I drive. My urge to smoke is not nearly as strong with vaping as it was with cigarettes. I can and regularly leave my house without an e-cig for hours at a time with no issues. When I go out with family I rarely take it and it is not an issue. As soon as I get home I'll have a few puffs and I'm happy.

A few weeks ago I went out of town for a few days and somehow managed to forget my glasses case I packed with my e-cig and the associated supplies for the trip. I discovered I didn't have the e-cig when I stopped about 1 hour into the 5 hour drive. I made it two days and kept going into convenience stores and asking about cigarettes. Finally I broke down and bought a pack in the afternoon. I had 1 in the evening (4-5 drags and threw it away). I hated myself for it but I figured if I didn't start smoking the analogues again I'd be fine. When I got home I got right back onto vaping but still had 4-5 cigarettes over the course of the next week (I already spent the money and 1 a day won't hurt). I destroyed the pack with 14 cigs left in it. A small set-back but meh, I don't care.

I actually experienced this today. On my way to work I realized I forgot to change my batteries in my Buzz Pro. I knew the batteries I had wouldn't last long and I probably wouldn't be able to vape for a good 3 hours until I was able to go home and get my freshly charged batteries. I had virtually no cravings and was fine without being able to vape. If I still smoked and forgot my cigarettes (which I have done in the past) I would have definitely gone home or stopped at a store to get a new pack.
