I can see it now from my wife, "You met up with someone from ECF, and all you got was crabs?"

Ha! I'm vey familiar with the Hampton roads area and still think about leaving the BS associated with the DC area. Did you grow up in Poquosin or are you a "come lately?"

LOL. The term I was coined is "Move In". My wife grew up here, but I only moved to HR 11 years ago from Pittsburgh.

Thank you WW, I will try the drill method to try and harden the ni wire. I thought it my be a hot leg or touchy coil!

With the dna40 and ni200 I've had to almost completely relearn, or better yet rethink how to build coils and then get them to wick at the correct rate, and to be honest I'm still learning and trying new things, I shouldn't admit it but I've gone through a 100' spool of 30ga ni200
And have discovered literally hundreds of ways of how not to build nickel coils.

Well, my Lemo arrived yesterday, but it's still in its USPS box sitting on my wife's desk. She says I can't have it until Christmas so I'm sitting here puffing on a Protank watching the box. What a bummer. It's even worse than waiting for the mail. On top of that I ordered a bunch of juice and it's been sitting in a CA sorting office for 2 days. By tomorrow all I'll have left is a bottle of Spearmint which I never used because I don't like it much.

I know I could carefully open the box and replace the Lemo with an old Protank and she wouldn't even notice the difference, but the good angel on my right shoulder says don't do it. The guy on my left shoulder says get yer knife out and go for it. Guess I'll just have to read more Lemo threads and keep myself busy ordering wire and other goodies, and designing my first coil.

Maybe someone could give me a bit of guidance here.

I'll have my Lemo soon. All I've used so far is Protanks. And my battery is a Sigelei 20 so I don't have a huge amount of watts to play with. I also would like to keep the power down anyway to avoid burning through the juice too fast.

What would be a good coil for the Lemo to get decent results without bumping the power up too much? I'm sure it will be better than a Protank whatever I do. I can take my time working up to heroic levels.

I only use the Sig in the evening at home. When I'm out I'll keep on using the mini Protanks and Spinners because they fit in my pocket and never leak.

Pretty sure I'll be getting a new mod at some point and explore its potential a bit more.

+1 on this ... the two most important things I've learned about Ni200 30AWG:

  1. Don't over-tighten under the post screws. It'll snap every time, causing loud yelling of profanities, among other bad things.
  2. Hand-wrapping is not an option. I use a jig, tightly secure one end of the wire to something, tie the other end to the jig post and tension wrap around the mandrel on the jig as tight as I can.

It seems with a good tight tension wrap around a mandrel, it holds it's shape much, MUCH better, allowing easier manipulation of the coil to space it out properly. After a really good tension wrap, I can pull the coil apart on the mandrel, push it back together with my thumbnails, pull the leads on the mandral (to tighten) one last time with a pair of needle nose, and I'm good to go with nice, evenly spaced coils.

I've done the work hardening with a drill method, and it did help a little, and it's kinda fun to transform that soft buttery flimsy metal in to a solid/hard piece of metal! That said, I haven't been doing it lately with my builds. Super tight tension wrap for me is the absolute key and is what has helped me the most.

EM, if you want to get the most outta those kangers come see us on the "protank microcoil discussion" thread. We've got'm chunk'n the vapor! Lung hit'n a rebuilt dual coil Aero Megatank right now at 23.5watts.

Just say'n

7 wraps, 28g wire on 3/32" drill bit. Very yummy.

So I see people running lowish power builds and that inspired me to try again.

I wrapped a tiny coil...30awg 4/5wrap metered at 1.2ohm - piece of cake to fire even on my MVP2 @ 10-11w. Wicked and primed - TASTY...for one hit. After that all I taste is cotton. I'm just using the regular cotton balls that came with the Lemo. Is it the cotton that's holding me back? This is driving me nuts!

When I use cotton, I split the two ends and reroute one of each side to the opposite so that it's laying over the coil.

Now that I've switched to rayon, I don't get dry hits. I do keep longer wick legs though... to prevent flooding.

Also, what diameter are the coils? And how densely are you packing the coil?

The coil is pretty tiny. Formed around a 2mm drill bit, and 4/5 wraps that are all touching. My wick just runs down the side of the deck and stays clear of the feeder channels. When I pull the build apart there's no evidence of burned cotton and the wick is staying saturated. Everything appears to be working right, it just tastes like cotton.

I apologize if this has been covered previously in this thread, but has anyone else had fill screw rusting? What have you done about it? I just put in that silicone ring (hope it works), instead of the screw, bc the rust troubles me.
I don't know because I swapped in the silicone plug on both my Lemos because I got so frustrated trying to put the screw back in I almost cut a m.....f.....

As long as you make sure it's pushed in well (it doesn't go all the way in, its supposed to stick up a bit), then press the other three tabs down against the bottom of the deck, and screw it in smoothly so as to not rip the plug out of the hole. The outer ring in the bottom cap presses against the bottom of the plug ring and holds it in. Its easy and quick but take your time. I rushed one tine and didn't get the plug seated properly, so when I screwed the bottom cap on it twisted the plug out of the hole and I got juice everywhere. When done right it works flawlessly.
