I recently sold my Twist to a coworker who was interested in e-cigs. I sold him my 1000 mah Twist, my Joyetech charger, a Kanger T3, and a 510-to-ego adapter for $30. Not to mention a full tank of juice. I thought I was paying it forward.

Since I sold it to him, he's complained non-stop. It won't hit right. So I did my best to explain Ohms, resistance, and voltages. It went right in one ear and out the other. The Kanger T3 is 2.5 ohms, so I said (over the phone tonight) put the Twist at the 4.0-4.2 range, and he asked, "What the blank does that mean?" And I explained to him that the Twist allows you to change your voltage to match your Ohm resistance for a better vape (I explained all of this to him when I first sold it to him, but obviously he wasn't paying attention). "Look at the dial on the bottom, it has hash marks, where is it set at?" (It was set at 3.8 +/- when I sold it to him). He said there were no marks (I knew this obviously to be untrue, they were there), and when he looked he said, "Oooh! Yeah, they're there!" But he had it twisted it to 4.8 volts. No wonder his tank wasn't firing correctly.

And then he said it wasn't charging. I asked him if he removed the 510 to ego adapter before charging, and he said yes. Thumbs up. Then I asked him if the charging light was red with flashes of green. He said, no, it stays red, it's still a piece of blank. Then I asked him if he screwed it into the charger, and he asked, "You have to screw it in?"

/Facepalm.

I've helped a bunch of vapers since I first started myself, but I've also encountered people who abuse their devices, bang 'em up, crank them to the max, and mismatch their delivery systems. I blame it on them not having a proper mentor, and also, they possess a mentality that just doesn't want to FULLY understand vaping and how it works. They want a thingy, they want to press a button, and they want it to work every single time. I do my best to let all of the noobs I talk to realize that there is a huge learning curve to vaping, and it will take effort on their part to figure out the details. But rarely do these certain types ever do it.

I'll never withhold advice from someone potentially looking into vaping, but I will no longer support someone who is just plain lazy and won't do a little bit of research and homework themselves. I know it's probably too much to ask, but I'm done with people who get ...... at me for selling them "blank-rigged junk."

It's not blank-rigged junk, it's user error. Learn from your mistakes and try to expand your brain a little.

Ok, rant over.

haha yea i made the mistake of selling one of my older lavatubes to my daughters boy friend awhile back...never again.
from now on im ether giving them for free or telling them where to buy there own.
you try to do a favor and end up getting insulted because you sold it to them for $20 and they cant figure out how to use it right and end up breaking it.

I guess I'm going to have to treat vaping like reading books.

I never "loan" out books.

This is off-topic, but shares a similar idea.

I just give away books. A) The potential reader will be worried about owing me money and not read the book. B) I refuse to hound a person I've lent a book to, to return the book. Just keep it, enjoy it if you can, and then pass it along.

When someone asks me about vaping, I point them to what I use, where I bought my gear and also ECF. Then I start over thinking..... Things like dry burning, keeping the contact area clean by maintenance once a week, then juices  it really is endless.

Then I tell myself: no one held my hand when I started. I did my own research and read everything to figure things out.

If you start out doing everything for them, where is their drive to learn more going to come from?

I had a co-worker ask me to help her pick out an upgrade to an ego twist set-up. I sent her a whole bunch of links, all from one site to make it easy, And patienly explained the difference between a ViviNova and a t3. Explain vv to her too. She told me she went to order, and the purple twist was gone. I went and checked, and she was wrong. From this I concluded that some people just do not want to be helped. I cannot do it for her. We can only give information, and what others do with it is on them.

Now, imagine if your rant related to your own Mom and Dad! Welcome to my world. I have to DIY their nicquid (luckily it's straight menthol 20mg 50/50). I buy all their supplies, as they're interwebz-deficient. Basically, it's just press this button and vape. If anything goes awry, it's all Hell breakin' loose with disappointment and threats to take up smoking again. I threaten to break fingers, so they can't do either. *It's in jest, but really?

Tell your co-worker that there's a $5 service fee for calling you with questions that he/she could find answers for, themself by meeting the fine world of ECF.

My rant:
I had plans to meet an acquaintance for lunch. She is a chain smoker & has seen me several times with either my Kgo or my Reo.

So, I charged up my Kgo, put a fresh carto & clean drip tip on it & took it to the restaurant with me. We sat at the outside dining area of the restaurant so she could smoke.

She lights up & I start vaping on my REO. She says something about my vaping & I take out the Kgo. I say, "I brought you something to try."

Now I'm thinking she would try it at the restaurant then give it back to me. NO!!! She puts it in her purse & says, "Good. I can use this tonight at the Lions Club. They don't allow smoking at the Lions Club. "

Cry. :(

I have not seen nor heard from my Kgo in 3 weeks!!! I loaned my BLU kit to another aquantance 9 months ago. He is still smoking & I haven't seen my BLU in 9 months. (Not that I really miss the BLU tho. )

Sniff. Sniff. NEVER AGAIN!! They can all find their own way from now on. I did.

Yes, some people are sadly clueless in life. I suppose that is why we have to have so many signs and warnings that they never read.
I purchased 5 single ego kits in anticipation of helping others get started while avoiding the pitfall of cig-a-likes. These are nice kits and I fully tested each and included a bottle of e-liquid to get them going.
One guy has managed to screw up the ce5 by squirting liquid down the tube with the supplied needle bottle and Flooded the 650mah into Short condition. He sends it back saying this one doesn't work.

Well I'm not rich but I also am not one to leave anyone hanging and I can hold my own when it comes to repairs. I've corrected the ce5 and am on day 3 of testing the repair to the 650 battery. When I return to work I will Vape it in front of him and pass it off with instructions that this was his one freebee.:2cool:

Been there, done that, have had to hand hold, and watched as someone put theirs into their purse and said I'll use it later.

I've now gone to a loan program, will put together a kit, let them know I'll be happy to help with any problems and within 4 weeks I either have the kit back or a small amount to cover the cost all of which I let them know up front.

The part that stinks on the OP is that this is a co-worker, hopefully you don't have to interact alot.......

I am lucky. I take my converts to a local brick and mortar. Sure, I could set them up with discount/free gear, but then they would act like fools.

I love the OP's buddy "you have to screw it in?". Yeah, it has threads, it has to be screwed in... When the noobs buy something new, they pay attention when the clerk at the counter explains it. They are laying down 50-60 bucks plus juices, they take better care of it. When they have gear issues, I don't get those questions from them like I have sold them something that does not work, to make a fast thirty bucks on my broken junk...I have so little patience for the phone calls where they are almost demanding you fix their issues.

There is a reason most vapers start with a cig-a-like (I started with a blu), work up to some simple single voltage device, then get a twist or the like, then get into VV upper end devices. This progression seems to take 4-12 months, depending on the individual, when they are a "pioneer user". I describe a user who has only ECF/online support as they are learning to vape as a "pioneer user". I vaped for a full month before I found ECF, so me and my girlfriend were truly on our own. But when I found ECF, I was ready to learn. My questions were already worked on, considered thoroughly and culled over many times.

Don't baby your noobs! Let them learn on their own, or they just act brain dead.

I like that Eddard. I am a "Pioneer Vapor". Yay me! I did my own research & trial & error. I didn't know ANYONE who vaped.

Thanks ECF. I guess I owe my life to all you guys out there. :)

Bullette wags tail.
Same here. It's a little irksome when people won't even read to try and help themselves. I am old and cranky enough that I don't mind telling anyone that I'm glad to help you when I can but I didn't take you to raise!

Hey, you can't fix stupid! Seriously, many noobs need to struggle with small batt autos for a while before they can begin to appreciate a decent setup.

I can attest to this, I really enjoyed my cig like e cig with a few fruit flavour cartridges for about a month until I upgraded. The rest is history :)

I wouldnt take it personally, he probably isnt trying to be ignorant but it is just an example of information overload.

I've come to the conclusion that some people aren't good with anything mechanical. I got my friend the simplest thing I could find, an Lea. All she had to do was fill up the clearo and push a button. This chick has killed computers by trying to yank out a cord from the tower that just had to be unscrewed. Seriously. And don't get me started on the vacuums she's murdered.
So she got the hang of filling up and went on her merry way. I get a call a few days later that the darn thing won't charge. She said it's been plugged into her laptop for 2 days and nothing.
Me: Is your laptop on and plugged in?
Her: No. I haven't used it in awhile.
Me:...
