Yeah I agree with this rant. You can't help someone who can't help himself and exercise some brain power. I will always help if someone is serious, but otherwise I keep it to myself. I agree with God - help those who help themselves.

I recently sold my Twist to a coworker who was interested in e-cigs. I sold him my 1000 mah Twist, my Joyetech charger, a Kanger T3, and a 510-to-ego adapter for $30. Not to mention a full tank of juice. I thought I was paying it forward.

Since I sold it to him, he's complained non-stop. It won't hit right. So I did my best to explain Ohms, resistance, and voltages. It went right in one ear and out the other. The Kanger T3 is 2.5 ohms, so I said (over the phone tonight) put the Twist at the 4.0-4.2 range, and he asked, "What the blank does that mean?" And I explained to him that the Twist allows you to change your voltage to match your Ohm resistance for a better vape (I explained all of this to him when I first sold it to him, but obviously he wasn't paying attention). "Look at the dial on the bottom, it has hash marks, where is it set at?" (It was set at 3.8 +/- when I sold it to him). He said there were no marks (I knew this obviously to be untrue, they were there), and when he looked he said, "Oooh! Yeah, they're there!" But he had it twisted it to 4.8 volts. No wonder his tank wasn't firing correctly.

And then he said it wasn't charging. I asked him if he removed the 510 to ego adapter before charging, and he said yes. Thumbs up. Then I asked him if the charging light was red with flashes of green. He said, no, it stays red, it's still a piece of blank. Then I asked him if he screwed it into the charger, and he asked, "You have to screw it in?"

/Facepalm.

I've helped a bunch of vapers since I first started myself, but I've also encountered people who abuse their devices, bang 'em up, crank them to the max, and mismatch their delivery systems. I blame it on them not having a proper mentor, and also, they possess a mentality that just doesn't want to FULLY understand vaping and how it works. They want a thingy, they want to press a button, and they want it to work every single time. I do my best to let all of the noobs I talk to realize that there is a huge learning curve to vaping, and it will take effort on their part to figure out the details. But rarely do these certain types ever do it.

I'll never withhold advice from someone potentially looking into vaping, but I will no longer support someone who is just plain lazy and won't do a little bit of research and homework themselves. I know it's probably too much to ask, but I'm done with people who get ...... at me for selling them "blank-rigged junk."

It's not blank-rigged junk, it's user error. Learn from your mistakes and try to expand your brain a little.

Ok, rant over.

Its not just friends but also brothers, the subjects not vaping but its the same problem.

I must have spent 3-4 years with my Brother and his PC, he used to phone me 1 or 2 times a week for help, really basic stuff like copy/paste etc' it slowly dawned on me that he would not learn himself, eventually it came time to replace his rig (i was not going to rebuild for him) I suggested he got a Dell, the first time he called with a problem i told him, i do not know Dell machines but they have a help line to call (premium rate ;) )

The calls have stopped................

I was on my pyrex glass tank and carto set ups with 3 Ego VV from Alibaba before i found ECF. Had tried 2 starter kits, and KGO with clearomizer and John V. At The Ecig and his very long slow Cart Tank video got me finding ECf somehow when i was googling for some kind of answer related to single coil v/s dual coil. I lurked a little while reading my brains out because ive never done a forum. After i got over the weirdness of forum answers questions etc i decided to get my 5 posts, begrudingly so i could participate IF I HAD to. ha ha. Now Im addicted. But itll probably pass, the addiction I mean. To ECf...not to e cigs though. Im just not good at posting ON TOPIC! Lol
Chiming in...

I bought a Joyetech eGo kit, juice, LR306 dripping attys and learned how to use all of them before I found ECF or met another vaper. There are excellent videos on youtube if you look for them.

umm yea............ your stuck here like the rest of us,:D I was a lurker for 6 months before my join date, said the same thing, even at work I check in now lol.

as for the OP, I will help people all I can, but as for IRL with gear? im over that.

went to fasttech and did a massive order, a few itaste vv's a big box of egos and the twist copies, near a case of clearos, heads and tanks, give it all away to help people get started, even gave them several bottles of juice from my DIY, gave them my phone number and email, got tired of how do i trun this on again? or why doesnt this thing work like you showed me (try turning up the power) got frustrated having to hold hands and once I stopped doing that, almost all these people went back to smoking.

im here to help them not do it for them so I gave up. think Ill just stick to helping out here lol

awwyiss, this thread is a classic.

*clears throat.*

In between classes, don't pay me no mind
Got my multimeter and a spool of kanthal to unwind
Sitting in the cafeteria, at my own little table
Rebuilding atty heads, making sure them ohms is stable.

Chick two seats over watching me like I'm building a bomb
Just better be glad I'm not vaping under a smoke alarm
Makes it a point to say "I heard those things cause cancer"
Then excuses herself outside to go suck on a camel.

"How do you know what they put in those things?"
Woman, I know, coz I mix my own wintergreen.
Quit working yourself up into a righteous rage now
Worst part is she's a chemistry major.

*drops mic*

And a lot of people on this forum wonder why I only recommend a simple eGo batt, with no adjustment and plain clearos. If you suggest anything other you had better be ready to hold their hand, always remember KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid). If you started off with a complicated device and figured it out, you just got lucky, that's all. Or as most comments I've read, people forget what they went through starting and assume the one their talking too is as obsessed as they are.

Maybe because part of my job over the last 20 years has been training the end user on how to operate what I install, I never assume the newer user has my experience or intelligence. I've learned over the years that the second you assume something, you just screwed up. Always start someone off with the simplest possible and let them learn to use it and let them work their way to what they want.

Sorry- but I'm nobody's babysitter. If I figured it out, so can they if they want to as badly as I did. I will usually tell them to search around on the internet, and I point them here to ECF. But I won't do more than that.

There's one lady at work who looks at me vaping... and she keeps telling me how she's "going to" go to the vape shop that is literally less than 15 minutes away. But she never does. I gave her all the information- where to go, where to read about it (here), hell I even gave her links to stuff to look at. But she does nothing about it.

Because she doesn't want to. She doesn't want to quit badly enough to be bothered making the effort. At least not yet.

So I've stopped saying anything at all. It's her problem. And when she gets cancer, that will be her problem too.

Most people that I see here that are asking questions (the smarter ones) seem to be treating them like cigarettes. It is what they are used to and they want vaping to be as easy. It just isn't. There is a rather steep learning curve, I'm afraid. More is better is a very American thing, bred into the blood. Also, hate to say it, but as we say in the education business 'You just can't fix stupid'. There, I've said it. Be kind, gentle, understanding and if it is hopeless, back away slowly. Why do the majority think they are smarter than the majority... hummm... Oh and lest I forget about attention span??? I truly don't think that vaping is ready for primetime with the public at large. It is still 'pretty fiddly'. Just my two cents.

Great thread! My personal favorite was the guy I was on break with at a place I was temping at. I was using a boxmod. I'd told him about ECF and Madvapes (my main supplier at the time) and he kinda looks sideways at me and says "I'll just use the one my buddy has." I ask "Did he quit?" he says in a half dejected, half aggravated voice "No" and walks away. The other guy that was listening in on the conversation bought a Screwdriver and quit smokes and vaping in two months.
