True. But the thing is, among people who have asked me about it, many of them are already informed of what an e-cig is.
I'm coming from a different perspective. I didn't know how it worked until curiosity got the better of me and I bought one. I honestly thought it still involved combustion. And the last thing I wanted was more smoking in my life.

If it had been called "non-smoking cigarette," I'd have investigated and purchased MUCH sooner.

Let's face it... what was our own reaction when we first heard of an electronic cigarette?
Pretty much "Oh, crap, they're trying to sucker me into even more ways of smoking?"

When I stated that I was using a vaporizer, people would: .... Dismiss it, and get suspicious... Not get it, at first, that it is actually a less harmful replacement for cigarettes.
I've had the total opposite reaction from people I've talked with. As soon as I say "vaporizer" they're totally fascinated. "What's that? What does it do? How does it work?"

So, yes, our mileage is extremely different! :)

If someone told me what they really were, I'd have LEAPED ALL OVER THEM immediately. "Cigarette" was the term that disinclined me to try them. Fortunately for me, my curiosity was strong.

Seriously, the term cigarette in ecig put you off trying them, what were you smoking?

Having been a vapor for 2 1/2 weeks now and loving it (completely quit smoking analogs), I'm kinda wondering why they are called electronic cigarettes as they are no where near being a cigarette. In my personal opinion this name itself is causing some of the uproar and misunderstanding as to exactly what it is. I don't have a good suggestion for an alternate name, just food for thought. I do like saying "vape" or "vaping" instead of "smoke" or "smoking" and that also completely distinguishes the difference. When we say we quit smoking but use an electronic "cigarette" I think it really confuses people. I'm really nervous about government interference because of this misunderstanding. Any suggestions out there about how this could be changed????

They're called electronic cigarettes because they're electronic and MOST look like traditional cigarettes. I prefer to call them PV's because 'personal vaporizers' is realistically more accurate, because they're NOT cigarettes. Cigarettes produce actual 'smoke' and require 'fire' to use. PV's produce Tea-Kettle type 'vapor' and require no fire, just batteries and an atomizer. Heck! They don't even require Nicotine. (For some). Me not being one of them.... ;)

Very similar to topic I copied and pasted and I think my same oppinion applies

Yeah: unless it's a cig a like then often they ain't cigarettes.... at all:

Like for example

Tobacco smoked in leaves is a cigar
Smoked in a wood or metal tube with a bowl at the end is a pipe
blocked word it seems: but those type of cigarettes that have a drug legal in Amsterdam get called 'spliffs or joint'

In conclusion none of them are called 'cigs' or 'cigarettes' because they aren't

A cigarette is a small paper tube with tobacco leaves rolled up in them: what does a none cig a like PV have in common with that? nothing what so ever.

I think we should call them Personal Vaporizers or PVs for short

Savoir-Faire is everywhere!
I think since it delivers nicotine in an electronic way then e-cigarette is appropriate.

A regular cigarette doesn't deliver nicotine in an electronic way and a patch delivers nicotine but would you call it a flat skin cigarette? Would you call nicotine gum a chewable cigarette? Would you call a nicotine lozenge a suckable cigarette?

See, the cigarette term makes no sense when the device ceases to resemble a small cigar (cigarette).
