Glow I wouldn't worry about it. When I had a REO I never used any. I had no arcing issues. I keep my builds at reasonable ohms. I think if you get into really low ohm builds it is probably more necessary. I will ocassionally use a tiny tiny bit of noalox on threads and it does really seem to make them smoother and may help connectivity.

There is a person that believes in petroleum jelly for threads on his mods. Swears by it and it is very inexpensive, as you know. I don't use it either.

The only low ohm builds I use are the Atlantis and the SubTank. Reo coils come in at about 1Ω pretty consistently. Wish I knew what gauge wire I am using. My little stick came off months ago and I can't remember? I suppose I could use the good old reverse method by counting wraps and working backwards but it isn't an issue until I run out of this wire. It is a very small roll and I am thinking it will only last me until about 2115 or so! LOL

Remember the good old days and looking at the vaping power chart? They have updated it with a nice chart that shows all of the thickness and resistances of various gauges of Kanthal A-1.

So, with that, you can either mic it out with your calipers or measure resistance over a specific length with your multi-meter and you'll know exactly what you have.

Yeah, but you are talking about tools I just don't have...I have a multi-meter for checking my builds? Don't think that is what you mean. LOL. I hate to sound like such a girl. DH knows about all this stuff and he can teach me. I am not totally without mechanical ability.

So you can take a measured length of wire and attach each end to the pos/neg leads on your multimeter and measure the resistance. You then look up the result on the chart and will know thickness of the wire.

Or take your wire to a local hardware store and ask them to measure with a calipers

You are fine and it sounds like you have a multi-meter which is what I was talking about. Just show your hubby the chart and he'll tell you what you have in a snap. Not like it's that big of a deal for you but it is a nice thing to know.

Reo #2 ( dedicated to all things Wakonda) just hasn't been hitting right for the past week or so even though it is given a regular cleaning and bath so I decided to tear it completely down to find the reason as to why. As it turns out, the hose nipple that threads onto the 510 had become loose causing a weak contact to the firing pin. Cleaned everything up and cleaned off the coating under the spring ( giving it a light and even coat of Noalox underneath as well) and now it is hitting as good or better then new.

Just thought I would share this as it is something to look into if anyone comes across this same issue as well.

It's nice to see the Reo we were just talking about on the phone. The Cyclone sure looks pretty on it. :toast:

Just curious how old REO#2 is as I have been contemplating a tear down and sonic clean here lately. I'm at 14 months of hard use on my only REO and don't have any issues but was thinking maybe it was about time for some in depth TLC.
