The opposite of sweetener?

I've done some searching and found some possibilities, but thought asking for input would help as well.

I'm fairly new to this - just started vaping in September and DIY juice came shortly after - and my favourite recipe is giving me some issues.

The taste itself is exactly right; my problem is that it's got a hint of sweetness that shouldn't be there. No other way to describe it.
I assume the reason is because the PG/VG ratio is 60/40 and PG is sweeter?

I don't have any additives on hand, though I can order some. I do have immediate access to vinegar and lemon juice, which may be my solution given the information found in micksf's DIY Master Techniques - Flavor Add-on's (EM, VW, BW, MTS, ACV, ect) thread.

The recipe is "Toasted Almond with Hickory Smoke" and I came up with it myself.

10ml 60/40 at 12% flavour without nicotine:
4.80 ml PG
4.00 ml VG
1.04 ml Toasted Almond (TPA)
0.16 ml Hickory Smoke (TPA)

Any recommendations would be welcome - preferably using vinegar and/or lemon juice so I can try them out immediately.

How does you your Nicotine Base, VG and PG taste Without adding any flavorings?

Great point. You should adjust your base until it's taste is neutral before adding flavoring. That is adjusting for the least harshness and sweetness by adjusting PG/VG ratio and NIC mg level.

Oooooh, good points. My bad on mixing up where the sweetness came from - I thought it was the PG.

I've played with the ratios, testing a variety of pre-mixed juices that all say they're "the best", and found 60/40 to be my personal preference for throat hit/harshness vs. vapor production. I hadn't considered it might be impacting the flavour as all my other juices are already on the sweeter side. Although I do use unflavoured juice to "clear out" my coils when changing flavours and I don't taste anything then, but I'm not particularly looking for sweetness - just the absence of whatever had been in the tank.

On y'all's advice I'll start up a clearo for unflavoured juice and see how that fares.

I'm also testing vinegar, adding a few drops per 2ml directly into my clearo, as per this thread, just to see what happens.

Thanks very much for the input, I'll let you know how it goes!

Okay! Today I've got 3 clearomizers and 2 batteries (eGo VV types) on the go.

1 clearo contains unflavoured liquid; last night I filled it with .5ml of the 50/50 0 nic base I keep on hand for dilution and cleared out the juice that was in it already. Vaped till it was almost empty and just now re-filled with .5ml of 70/30, still 0 nic. When that's done I'll know the coil's fully saturated and I'm only tasting the 70/30; then I'll fill with another .5 to 1ml and pay specific attention to the sweetness.

1 clearo contains the remainder of my Toasted Almond/Hickory Smoke recipe with a few drops of vinegar - it seems to have helped, but with the vinegar added the flavours are diluted. When it's closer to empty I'll add the new stuff I mixed up yesterday - same recipe with vinegar added, taking this dilution into account.

1 clearo contains Orange Creamsicle, because it's delicious and I don't want to just be experimenting all day long. :p

So here's the latest (after breaking out a brand new head to ensure no sweetness was coming through from the previous juice):

70/30 has no sweetness that I can taste. However, it's not enough vapor for my liking either. Going to try 65/35 as a compromise and see how that tastes.

The recipe with vinegar added still tastes sweet, and the vapour is greatly reduced. Not liking that at all.

I'm thinking I'll order some Magic Mask and/or Sour and see what I can do with those. If I can figure this out, I'd like to make some more flavours that are on the savoury side - I get a little tired of the sweet ones after awhile. Bacon, anyone?
