I think you're right about people being afraid to start building, Roxy. I had my first 2 Erls for months before I ever even attempted building them. I only bought them because they were just $5 at Angel Cigs and a couple people in the tootle puffer thread said they were good tootle puffers. I read that entire ginormous Erlkonigin thread and watched a bunch of vids and finally tried it. I think it took me over an hour the first time. I guess I had beginner's luck, because I nailed the build and ended up with a great vape. In fact, it was better than anything I'd ever vaped up to that point. So I was entirely hooked.

I'm not really sure what my fear was all about. I had been rebuilding t3s and GS Air coils for a long time, and they're so tiny that they're actually a lot harder to build than an RTA. There are plenty of other tootle puffers who also rebuild their stock coils but are afraid to venture into rebuildables, so I'm not sure what it is. I do think it's partly because they don't think these tanks can tootle. For most of this year, we've seen one subtank after another come out. And since a lot of them have build decks, I think they often get confused in people's minds with RTAs. That's why this thread really opened my mind about the wide variety of tanks available that I might like. Now I've got quite a variety of tanks and have really enjoyed the journey. (Well, except for those damn Kayfuns! :D )

My experience as well, only it was a Kayfun I had my beginner's luck with :). I never tried rebuilding my Kanger coils because they're so tiny I thought it would be harder. I agree that anyone that can build those can build anything. And once I started building I never looked back to using factory coils.

Oh and that kayfun probably took me an hour to build, too :)

I agree with Linda. I started vaping on Evods and PT2s and quickly learned to rebuild Kanger's heads. What a difference! I think it was MacTechVpr, on his PT2 rebuild thread that said, "if you can rebuild a Kanger' head you can build just about anything." When decent KFL+ clones hit $30, I snagged one quickly and haven't looked back. Except for...

For over a year, I have been looking for a great 19mm RTA for my VTR. I have a DT804 but it's... underwhelming. Anyone have any experience with the Mini Buddha?

Yes, I had one and think its a great little atty :). Very easy to build and has post holes to make trapping the leads easy.

I am not sure if anyone has mentioned this one yet but for fans of the spheroid a similar one from Phoenix mods it should fit nicely in my new Athena envy17 this was really expensive when released but price drop is huge.

Dang, that's a good deal! Everyone whose ever wanted a Spheroid should grab that up!

A sidebar comment, I have watched this thread evolve and it has got me playing with more rebuildables but my major issue has always been about leaking or trust that something won't leak and leave me stranded or messy. It's one of the reasons I drift back to standard gear.

I understand that, Krisma! The only RTA I've never had leak on me is a Lemo2. I've been using a STM w/RBA for a couple of days now; no leaking yet. TIme will tell, especially with cold weather setting in.

Always a good idea not to take something you just built to work or the grocery store. But, if you built it the night before and didn't wake up to a puddle, you should be good to go.

I'm basically always in motion "like at the grocery store" and don't have time at home or the space for fiddly stuff. That's why I put the idea of doing my own coils on about the same level as cleaning toliets or laundry. I've also done jewelry for a living so it's "work" to me. Kudos to those making coil jewelry though. It's gorgeous. I did think it would be cool to take a coil off a necklace and put in an rta. Just not my style or hobby yet.

I need to FDA proof though. Want to know how many RTA's and Kayfun like atty's are at FT? lol. I'e been so frustrated I thought counting them might be a better way to waste my time. What's simple for someone with no experience or patience?

I keep looking at this V6, Kaylantis or Subfun, whatever you want to call it and think it might be a start. But there's several others catching my eye too.

aikanae, the one I just got yesterday - the Nectar - is absolutely the simplest RTA I've built to date. All you have to do is slap on a coil, pull your wick through it, and stuff it into the tank. There's no fiddlyness to the wicking at all. And it's a really nice vape. Fast Tech has them for $9.29. Here is the one I got:

For a first RTA, I'm not going to recommend a Kayfun, but rather one you can access the deck anytime on. That way if you don't nail it on the first try, you don't have to empty your juice to fix it. Also you will have the ability to rewick/rebuild when you have time.

Consider instead:
Taifun GT2
Hurricane
Bellus
eXpromizer
Prometey or Spheroid or the Xplora Krisma just posted

Those are all very portable without leaking once you have the build down.

The Rose v2 and v2-s are good choices also, but a little more difficult to coil.

The Flash e Vapor and Taifun GS2 or GSL are also good choices, but you do need to make the mesh feeder straws for them. Once you have those set up though they should last for years if not forever.

I agree unless it needs to be sideways in your purse :). You would need to buy the plugs that are for the authentic, and you could still have minor leaking around the wicks.

Good to know. They are cute. It's on my list. No leaks? That's a peeve of mine.

I can use some plastics, some of the time, but a lot of my fav liquids are tank killers. The vapor will eat acrylic tips. All my current tanks are glass which simplifies things.

Here's a few more. I'm definately a MTL.
$21.84 Tilemahos V2 Styled RTA Rebuildable Tank Atomizer - 4ml / stainless steel + PC / 22mm diameter at FastTech - Worldwide Free Shipping

$13.26 SXK Nebula Wine Tank RTA Rebuildable Tank Atomizer - 5ml / stainless steel + glass / 22mm dia. at FastTech - Worldwide Free Shipping

and pre made coils. lol. Yes, I'm that lazy.

Mods end up in the bottom of my purse no matter what I do or try to hold them in. Upside down, sideways, forgotten ... real life. If it leaks, it'll end up in a drawer and never used.

Bellus is on the short list too. I'll have to look up the others.

I was going to mention both :). I didn't mention the Tile as I wasn't sure of deck access. Its hard to tell if the chimney will stay put in the tank while you rewick, or if it might come through a bit and let your juice piddle out. And I wasn't sure if the Wine airflow would suit you since its not adjustable.

Having recently picked up a STm, I'll add that to the list of accessible build deck while full. Though I'm currently considering grabbing a v1 RBA deck.

Oh that's right. I have mine sitting up in a stand when not in use. But it probably would leak if you set it on its side.

I've had that Wine on my wishlist for awhile now. There's a thread on it in the rebuildable forum. People do seem to like it a lot.

What's a STm, v1?

I have a stand but I've never used it. Figures. I've tried all sorts of holsters and there's nothing more frustrating than needing a vape, and the tank is empty of premium $$$$$ juice.

For me, function comes first. I vape vg which helps with some leakage but I'm used to whatever gets the job done. "Embrace the suck" etc.

My 2 Black Friday Lemos just came in today. These things look a lot like a Kayfun 3.1. I opened one of them up and was surprised to find it was already built with a very pretty coil and some fluffy white cotton in it. I know this will horrify everyone, but I thought "what the heck" and went ahead and filled it up and am vaping on it. So if I get ptomaine poisoning, you'll know why. :D

It took me forever to find the fill hole. I finally realized it was under that weird plastic ring in the base. Even though it resembles a Kayfun, I think the flavor is a lot better. I just haven't decided yet whether to tootle it or lung hit it. This Orchid really seems to be changing my vape style. :D
