Here it is:
- buy a switched battery pack with 4 compartments for AA batteries,
- drill a hole in the 4th compartment, and fix an emptied pen-type battery in it,
- wire it up with the switch and the batteries,
- seal the battery compartments from the atomiser compartment,
- screw in the pen-type atomiser,
and you are ready to smoke.
The 3 NiMh batteries provide 3.7V, and up to 2800mAh energy.
Pros:
- it fits in your palm and pocket,
- no more explosive batteries,
- compatible with pen-type atomisers,
- long smoking with one charging
Cons:
- hard to find a charger that charges 3 batteries, so it is difficult to keep the batteries in the same condition
- it is easy to leave it accidentally switched on.
Theoretical rework:
Replace the third battery, with an 5F supercapacitor (connected in series with the atomiser), and use an alternating switch (that reverses the polarity of the atomiser/capacitor)
Pro:
- only 2 NiMh batteries are needed (the capacitor cca. doubles the voltage)
- it does not matter if you accidentally leave it switched on: no current will flow once the capacitor charged up, until you reverse the polarity by the switch again
Cons:
- efficiency reduced to 50%: you will need to charge the batteries more often.
