Not much vapor or not much visible vapor? tobacco produces hardly any visible vapor but there is a whole load of nicotine in the invisible vapor. 165C releases the alkaloids whcih are invisible.

Roll on Tuesday :)
They're not all made with tobacco (i got the blue tea), plus they're made with PG/VG, so you'd think they would produce a fair amount of vapor.

As far as the nicotine goes, they've said it's comparable to an ultra-light cigarette, so I don't imagine the tobacco ones provide much nicotine.

From my experience with the iolite and molasses (which it looks like the pods have in them) the most visible vapour comes from packing the bowl so that the maximum surface area is in the air path. One thick lump doesn't produce much. I wonder if the material being inside a pod is choking the visible vapour production? When I created the foil cup method with the iolite, the visible vapour did drop. (I still wonder if they stole my idea:D)

The problem I see is they're not refillable except with those little canisters so it's probably going to get a little exspensive. Like using cartos once and throwing them out.
Pretty Impressive though.

For that guy that people worship sake. Who tried to refill it? Can you enlighten?

Here is what I am unofficially going to do.

After a pod is spent I am going to clean it out. I am going to take a section of silica fire rope and place it inside the pod. I am then going to drip liquid into the pod. I am then going to test to see how well this refilling method works. I will then post here the results.

As far as the aluminum on top I am going to try to get some regular foil on it if I can. I don't think it will be that difficult.

At this point I highly doubt this Ploom device will quite "do it for me". I am just getting it because I am curious and the marketing materials intrigued me (they did a good job).

I dont think the foil on top is even necessary. From the websit it looks like its just there to keep it sealed until you use it.

For anyone who wants more detailed descriptions of how this device works, here are their two patents:

http://appft.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-...41".PGNR.&OS=DN/20090260641&RS=DN/20090260641

United States Patent Application: 0090260642

Here's the info specifically about the pod:

21. A portable hand-held smoking device comprising:a vapor chamber having a cavity disposed therein; anda smoking cartridge having a shape conforming to the cavity of the vapor chamber.

22. The smoking cartridge of claim 21, wherein a wrapper enclosing the smoking cartridge on all sides and bottom leaving the top exposed for exiting vapor.

23. The smoking cartridge of claim 22, wherein the top of the cartridge is formed of vapor permeable material.

24. The device of claim 21, wherein the smoking cartridge having perforations at top for emitting vapor.

25. The device of claim 21, wherein the smoking cartridge having aeration wells at the top for emitting vapor.

26. The smoking cartridge of claim 22, wherein the wrapper is impermeable and covers the sides and the bottom leaving the top open for protecting the cavity surface of the vapor chamber.

27. The smoking cartridge of claim 22, wherein the cartridge comprise of two layers, a moist layer at the bottom and a dry layer at the top for preventing any liquid from bubbling up and out of the cartridge during heating.

28. The device of claim 21, wherein the smoking cartridge containing glycerine as a vapor-forming medium.

I checked out the site and I'm not so sure. I just got into Ecigs less than two weeks ago. One think I like is that it does not use tobacco. Plume does.

$5.95 for five 'pods' doesn't sound to good to me. Each on lasts five to ten minutes. That's $6.00 for twelve cigarettes. That leaves me out. I would rather vape all day on a few ML of liquid. I don't think I would want to have a butane device in my mouth all day.:evil::evil:

I think you meant to say $5.95 for 12 pods, since you said $6 for twelve cigarettes...?

I got one today... they don't fill the pods like they explained in the patent filing. There's very, very little filling in them. At least, in the ones I got. There aren't two 'layers' a wet and dry layer.. just a bit of wet herbal mix stuck to the sides of the pod. Maybe they'd work better if they actually bothered to fill them properly.

I got my invite a couple days ago and was going back and forth on whether or not to get one. I recently got an Iolite vaporizer and I am liking it well enough that even though I think Ploom pods are overpriced, I like the concept enough to give it a try.

From what I've read and seen of the Ploom, it looks like has a LOT in common with the iOlite but with a more cigarette-like form factor and obviously a smaller vaporization chamber. If this could operate like a butane powered micro-hookah (which is what it really looks to be), this could very well be worth the price of admission.

...and for those who worry about using a lot of butane, the iOlite uses about 1ml of butane per hour of operation...and it seems like the Ploom is similar.
