I had to get help from the teacher to help with her homework! I'm like umm sweetie...Mom just knows how to borrow when subtracting. like having them add and subtract 3 different 3 figure numbers to figure out 62-34??? ...?!

Why did schools introduce this new way of doing math? It doesn't make sense to me at all

Oh no we haven't gotten to multiplication yet  I see a math tutor in her future.

Oh get ready. It's a whole new system from
what I was taught. Also, it's nonsense. Save now for a tutor. And I had every math class known to man in college etc. Can't do this though.

Starting tomorrow, I have a week off of school. My only goal is to use my readywire to build a coil for my Sophia, which I actually haven't done yet. Got no issue with coils for my Kayfuns and Igo-w, but for whatever reason I find this task totally intimidating. I have used the By Leo ready-made coils up until now, but I'm out of them.

Did my first one for the Sophia and Dripper Pro yesterday. As we all know, if I can, anyone can

I honestly haven't even looked into it, makes me so mad I could spit. And her school (private and expensive as hell) promised they wouldn't switch to common core...until DUH! All the books they are making now are based on - guess what - common core!!

I am sending her some this summer. Second grade and getting below 70s on math tests? She will be PO'ed but oh well. We can go to the water park after.

You got it. I'm blunt with them. I say "you weren't taught like this and I wasn't taught like this" dumb it down so I can get him though this to the calculator point. ;)

And they somehow missed the reason that I posted "X" was to emphasize it was multiplication.

If one posts: 2 x 4 = 8 is there something in the presentation that would indicate algebra is involved?

No, it looks cut and dry and I minored in math in college.

I saw the comment that was made and according to his profile, it says he's an engineer. So, it figures he thought that.....engineers ALWAYS take something simple and make it complicated. Smh.

In college, I had to take discrete math. I actually got an A, but have no idea what I was doing. I hate math, and glad that I have no kids that I have to help with math.

I dunno what discrete math is? I had to take calculus, business calculus, statistics, advanced (insert every math course known) and I just memorized and plugged in numbers. I'd make a big fat zero if I had to do it now.

Mostly has to do with IT. Some was statistics, probability, and logic. There was also some calculus involved, which I never took.

Ocey post made me think this lil furball is just mad with my son; esp since he's not doing this to anyone else.
Right before this starting happening, kitty got his ... whOOped for running outside.

Quote possibly. The night Sera peed on my feet the routine had changed, plus I made her mad. I had to get up early for an important meeting, so I went to bed at about 9:30, something that Sera had never seen before. As I was reading and waiting for my sleeping pill to kick in, she came up and tried to curl up on my stomach, but I was reading and she was in front of my book, so I pushed her away. I guess she was anxious and needed to be reassured or something, but anyway, that's when she peed on me.

I hear ya. He goes to a private stuffy school and they have to follow the standards so the kids can pass the state tests. He gets the highest scores on the standardized tests every year but it's after a whole year of arguing and crying. Ugh. UGH.

He lists his occupation as "Stress Engineer." What's that?

I loved statistics. Loved it. I took every advanced class of that I was allowed to take. Calculus? Ugh. I had to take lots of that too but I limped through.

Hate math, and would never take it voluntarily. There are a variety of math calculators to be found online. I've used them for algebra and scientific calculations. You might be able to find something that would help you, or your kid.
