I dunno what discrete math is? I had to take calculus, business calculus, statistics, advanced (insert every math course known) and I just memorized and plugged in numbers. I'd make a big fat zero if I had to do it now.

Discrete math deals with things such as combinations, permutations, probability, sets and fun stuff like that. Engineering/statistics/logic-based careers would need to know this stuff.

I'm always late to the party....

Here's my two kitties. They don't really like each other so it's difficult getting a picture of them together.

That first one looks like my wife's cat! And one of mine looks like the one you keep in a jar

Are both of these cats Maine Coons?

Ah, I encountered the factorial trees or whatever they are this year.

I don't mind if they change the way they teach math - as long as they successfully teach basic math. Sadly, they don't.

When I CAN see what my child is working on (this year, all year, they didn't have a textbook to bring home, so I really couldn't help her and she had terrible grades on almost every test), I help.

When it comes to anything like algebra or even basic calculus, I'm the weirdo who doesn't follow a strict set of rules, but can "figure out how to figure it out". I work on a single simple algebra problem with my daughter, and we solve it 5 different ways, and by the end she is beginning to learn what's going on - and how to solve a math problem. Whereas in school, they're taught a strict process to solve a particular type of problem - and as you've all pointed out, this is an INVENTED process that's alien to many of us - and it's NO BETTER than the old process, and it's NOT EASIER to comprehend. It's just different. And it ONLY teaches them that one funky process - it doesn't teach them to SOLVE A PROBLEM in real life. "Oh, this is where I have to use the factorial tree process" - nope.

First time I met with her latest math teacher, she told me (in the presence of a Vice Principal) about all the resources available for help - she was lying.
Second time I met with this teacher, it took me 3 tries to explain to her the error in the text. Because, as I realized during that conversation - she really isn't any good at math.

Physics, Cal Berkeley, End Rant

Also, ask my daughter what happens if you make an error with a decimal point or something. She'll look at the ceiling and sigh, "I know...I know...everybody dies". LOL. I like to come up with real-life examples of how you might use the math she's doing. Tire traction. Airplane fuel. Collision velocity. Bullet trajectory. You know - stuff a teenage girl can relate to.
So if they are making kids figure out: 16 + 17 = ?

Instead of:
16
+17
_____

1
16
+17
____
3

1
16
+17
____
33. Like we all were taught, they are getting:

16
+17
_____

10
10
6
+7
____

10
10
+13
_____

10
10
+13
____
33

Is that it?

Hey now! I'm from MI... You don't like Def Leppard or people from Michigan....

I lived in Michigan for 8 years but to be clear, I was making fun of the accent but yes, Def Leppard SUCKS!

Funny, I fell asleep on the couch early last night and woke up to some crap my wife had on TV. It was about some drug court thing in Michigan and that accent woke me from my slumber.

Anyone seen H2o? Maybe her box shot got her banned :(

I was thinking about this, this morning. My generous angel dropped in, got me a Dragon and then quietly disappeared into to the mist.........

Yesterday when I read through the forum, I said to myself "Hmmmm Cats, I really hate cats! Is there anything I hate more? Just math, they would never talk about math here and today.............BOOOM!"

AND SO.

When a qualified medical professional says "take it slow, there is no need to rush on your first session", it's typically a good idea to listen.

Case in point: after my leg massage, I was given the chance to get on the parallel bars. I was supposed to roll my wheelchair right to the bar, and use the bars to stand while slowly putting weight on the right leg. Apply pressure, release and repeat.

But nooooo. I had to insist on trying to walk. Fell face first right into the right bar, "rebounded" off it and smack the back of my skull against the left bar before collapsing on the ground spewing words that will never see the light of day in this forum.

Got wheeled back to my ward. Suffice to say, I'm gonna be waking up with a huge bump at the back of my head and most likely half a black eye. Scowls.

Burping out loud using Tapatalk

Damn dude, that's got to be frustrating...and painful!

Take your time and remember in some ways you're starting from scratch. I had some knee surgery last year and for the first month it felt like I had never walked on that leg before in my life. Like the muscle memory was gone. It's back to basics for starters but you'll gain confidence & strength quickly after that. You'll just have to be incredibly conscious of everything you've done subconsciously for a bit.

That was the night I left work early to come to this place.

I posted at 2:07am took a cat nap, posted again at 6:12 am was packed and on the road by 7am.
I got pulled over around 11 am.

And one of the biggest things I had on my mind that morning was my mom,

My mom is still recovering from her stroke, and the insurance company,
which is another word for organize crime,
said they wouldn't pay for the hospital any more so we had to move her to a nursing home.

So they transfer her to this place and Lose her 8-o8-o

Oh Yea for around 12 freaking hours.

They put her in this room and didn't check her in.
So she laid there unable to get up or call for help
My niece was the one that finally found her.

Then my niece tells me someone stole my mom's Provari.

Which later I find out a nurse took it and locked it up.
Said it considered a tobacco product and had to be locked up.

So don't check her in, don't tell the nurse's on the next shift she is even there,
But make sure you lock up that Provari

My family is frantically looking for a new nursing home

This is so sad and praying for your family and your mom. There are some decent nursing homes but few and far between. It makes me sick how nursing homes treat people and don't get me started on insurance companies.

That is sad to hear and sorry to hear it.

I always found it odd that nursing homes, daycare and adult daycare (for special needs) pays most of their workers such crap money. The people you care for most in the world, taken care of by someone who makes less than the person at McDonalds.

Eh, don't waste your breath Rin. The guy moved to Baltimore Maryland from Michigan for a better climate? :?: That's like moving from Miami to Phoenix because you don't like the heat! Yes, I know "it's a dry heat!" :p He must have been a Yooper (if he lived there 8 years he'll know what that means) :D

What he won't tell ya is he got his ... kicked in Detroit and fled for his life

I'm not going to touch the Def Leppard thing...I will back him up on the cats though, I can't stand'em either (domestic cats...sorry Ocey :) )

We, very briefly, considered a nursing home for Mom but knew she'd be "no longer with us" within a month. We went the "home healthcare" route and now, that's gotten expensive. She's moving in with my brother at the end of this month and his wife quit her job to stay with Mom 24/7. Nursing homes (at least here) and insurance companies? Biggest rip-offs around. And don't get me started on what Medicare wants...

Is she in PA? If so, what part? Unfortunately I know about every facility there is. I'm guessing she's on Medicare? There have been a lot of CMS changes since Obama has been in office (not a political debate...just the facts). The benefits under the Medicare umbrella have been decreased, whether it's Medicare A (for hospital, SNF, etc stays) or Medicare B (for Dr's visits). I'm willing to bet she was in the hospital under 60 days, right? The first 60 days are covered, but then there's a $304 co-pay per day for days 61-90 and it goes up from there. That's in addition to the deductible of $1216 for each hospital stay. They always transfer them to a SNF and it's paid for the first 20 days, then $152 per day from days 21-100.
The problem is that under Medicare guidelines, a person is only covered for 150 days at a hospital...total. There is no reset, it's cumulative. I won't get into the nitty gritty specifics, you can thank me now for that ;)

It's a messed up system and less and less Dr's are accepting Medicare because they can't be reimbursed for so many things, and if they are...the reimbursement is so low. If she's in a room at the nursing home, then technically she's "checked in". It's not the same as a hospital check in, but when she enters the facility then she's their responsibility. Period. Have you talked with the DON or the Administrator to find out what happened? That would be my first step. Investigate what went wrong, what they are going to do to correct it, the plan of care, etc.
Sorry, went into work mode there for a minute. Carry on....

I don't know what they are. Igor might have some Maine .... or Ragdoll in him as he's HUGE and goes limp when I hold him. Marley is about half his size. I adopted them from the local cat rescue.

Dear ProVape,
Just please take my money now!

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I am not sure why, but the pics of the full size one, look better then on the mini, I might have to change my plans, and get that one instead of the full size gold. I have limited funds right now, I want them all, including a Mini dragon.

Got the mini Dragon.........I am going to practice some will power and wait until whatever happens with the P3, happens. Then I can selectively decide if I want to do another one. For some reason, I am getting the feeling that I may not want a P3.

This particular class was aimed at IT peeps. However, there was no fun involved. I understood why I needed it, except that I'm not going into IT, I prefer web design. But it's over and I survived it. :)

ETA:Edited wrong post.
