Hi! Help! I have an ERA that I have been using for about a month that is suddenly producing a burnt taste. I think it is the device because I have rewicked and recoiled several times at different ohms and different gauges. I tried all different sizes of silica wick and still the burnt taste. The liquid looks clear and no build up on coil. Anyone know if there is something I can do to fix this?

I have a very bad feeling about it. Can you test the mod with another atty and see if it still tastes burnt?

My concern is that you may have melted the plastic parts of the ERA, which, to my knowledge, are not replaceable :( Or the rubber gasket in your Reo, which is replaceable. The best case, there may be something burny stuck inside the ERA, and an overnight PGA bath should take care of it.

I think it does taste burnt with my hornet too.

That is actually a good thing :) Try to give your Reo a good bath and sniff the 510 connector after. If it still smells burnt, you may need to refurbish your Reo, which is a lot cheaper than replacing the ERA. Rob does it, or he sells a repair kit that would replace the rubber gasket. You may also want to talk to him before you spend money on fixing it -- he might know a simpler and cheaper solution.

Just an observation...I just put a new coil in my reomizer (VVW) @1.8Ω @5Vs. I'd never would pop in a regular LR atty @ that voltage for the obvious reason it would die quickly but with a RBA it seems to not be a problem. I've done this before and the only reason I replaced the coil was because taste not that it died. So I ask you "Technical Writing Teacher" please explain.

Gil, thinking that your reg atty has smaller diameter wires used in making up the coil making it easier to "pop". Most rba's have wider distances between posts enabling use of thicker wires.

Six wraps around a small nail gives me a 2.1 ohm coil, which I'm trying for the first time on my mini 2.1. I prefired several times and checked for steady ohm reading, as BoiledNutz once suggested somewhere. Seems to be working OK, but just not getting vapor/ flavor production like I thought I'd get. Actually not much better than a carto. If anyone is using a REOMizer 2.0 on a mini 2.1, what ohms do you try for ? Thinking maybe I should drop Ohms to 1.7- 1.8 range next time I try this......

Try a smaller nail and more wraps scrunched together and touching to get more flavor. A large paper clip works great or a nail like this:

+1 what Hildi says on full mech mods.....maybe 1.5 max. Really loving my 0.6mm ribbon wire and can't wait for my ss mesh to get here to try that....should be be da bomb!!

Something I just figered out on my own- the hard way, of course
On the RM 2.0 it is possible to position the end of your wicks directly over the feed hole. If you tend to cut you wicks long (as I do) the tails of your wick could block the feed hole of the RBA. Feeding is not a problem, but it is easy to 'flood' the RBA this way as the RBA will not drain back into feedtube.
Duh-huh

The positive post insulator for Hornet and ERA is replaceable and the part can be purchased. Also, one person connected with the Pinoy RBAs has made a how-to video and posted it on Facebook. I don't have time to go looking right now for links but hopefully a fellow REOnaut can access those for us.
