specs: The 5ml bottle of Mad 4 I purchased contains a light amber-colored liquid at 18mg nic strength in an unknown base blend. Judging from the viscosity, I’d guess 60/40 PG/VG. Testing was done in a GoodProphets 510SR carto at 2.7 ohms, powered by an Ovale V8 set to 3.5 volts (the Ovale’s PWM makes it hit much harder than the set volts, especially at lower voltages). I’d guess that the real-world power was about 8 watts.
Three months ago,
sandybeach left a post about discovering (and liking)
Mad 4 from
Madvapes’ Top Vapor line. Catcalls ensued, since most experienced vapers who post on this thread don’t think much of Top Vapor juices, and that’s putting it mildly. Not that anyone put down
sandy herself, but we were skeptical at best.
I added a 5ml bottle of Mad 4 to a larger hardware order from Madvapes back in May. When it arrived, I posted that I had gotten it and would do a review later that week. Then I promptly forgot about it, and the review was never written (or, at the very least, I can't find it in the thread).
Today I was looking over my Word file of
The Big RY4 List and noticed that Mad 4 was included, but the post number of the review was missing. After the link to Madvapes site, it just read:
post #xxxx. That meant that I had added the link in anticipation of writing a review, which apparently I never did.
So, this review today is my apologetic correction for that oversight. Just more of my endless brain damage. Anyway, here goes:
Mad 4 from
Top Vapor is first and foremost a caramel juice, second a tobacco juice, and third an RY4, sort of. Well, close enough for horseshoes, anyway. What it is more technically is a caramel-tobacco blend, but I won’t quibble. Clearly, it’s
supposed to be a custom RY4, so even if the vanilla is difficult to distinguish, I’ll give Top Vapor the benefit of the doubt.
The dominant caramel is neither potent nor overly sweet, which probably means that vanilla is “diluting” it, even though I can’t pinpoint the vanilla, since it’s been swallowed up by the caramel. It’s creamy and bleeds into every nook and cranny of the flavor profile.
Tobacco is present, however. I can’t pick out much
about the tobacco, since it’s slathered in caramel, but it’s definitely there. And it’s OK.
That’s the big surprise about this juice.
It’s OK. For all it’s technical flaws, and despite my general scorn for Top Vapor, Mad 4 is actually a pretty good vape. It’s friendly, pleasant, and surprisingly satisfying, mostly because of what it
doesn’t do rather than what it
does. It doesn’t make me want to puke. Mad 4 very much wants to be friends with its users, like a kid brother who wants to join his older brother's posse of friends. His sincerity makes it hard to say, “Stop bothering us and go home.” So, you let him tag along, and you end up feeling good about that.
Is Mad 4 a great RY4? Not by a long shot. But it is a juice that has aspirations to grow up and some day
become an RY4. In the meantime, it’s a pretty easy juice to love, just like you love your kid brother.
