I've seen that one on the SmokTek site, but not before my days of buying RY4s like a drunken sailor had already ended. Never tried it.

Not that vendors owe us the information, but when they don't make their own juices, I sure would like to know the source and whether or not it's a custom formulation for that specific vendor. Sure, SmokTek can say they're proud to provide made-in-USA juices, but that doesn't tell me what I'd like to know, which is whether or not the same juice is or might be sold by another vendor.

Bill, I am wondering the same thing in regards to who makes their juice for them. Makes me a little curious and wanting to try some, maybe as an addition to my next order from them. I just purchased a ZMAX Mini from them and had already placed my order before I noticed this juice line on their web site. By the way, I am impressed with the ZMAX - it appears to be a Provari copy only smaller, cheaper and the option of variable power (wattage) in addition to variable voltage.

Do you consider a juice with TA added to it as being something along the lines of an NET?

I also like the ZMAX, but I like the VAMO just as much. The VAMO can use 18350, 18650, or two 18350s (I use one 18350 so it is shorter). The VAMO is much cheaper and just as nice.

+1 for the VAMO. I own seven of them---two V1s and five V2s. I also power them with a single 18350 to keep them shorter, relatively speaking. I much prefer the simple three-button VAMO user-friendly interface over the ZMAX/Provari style single button multi-click-and-wait scroll-through-a-menu "morse code" system.

Has anyone tried Hangsen Crentia RY4? It is about twice the price ($4/10ml).

I've searched via Google to discover the difference, but to no avail. I come up with nothing about what makes Crentia "special" and more expensive. All I've found is that the Crentia series comes only in 10ml bottles. Regular Hangsen liquids come in 10ml, 30ml, and 50ml bottles. 40¢/ml is really expensive juice for FastTech, and it's popular, too---they're out of stock for numerous flavors in the Crentia line, especially the higher nic versions. Perhaps it's a limited edition, although searching for Crentia on Hangsen's corporate site comes up with zilch.

Even though I have 90mls of regular Hangsen retail RY4 and another 30mls (currently) of DIY juice made with Hangsen Essence RY4, I'd probably order a 10ml bottle of Hangsen Crentia just to see if it's different, but FastTech is temporarily out of both 18mg and 24mg nic strength in the Crentia Ruyan4.

And how does Hangsen away with calling its juice "Ruyan4?" Most other juice manufacturers have by now dropped "Ruyan4" and changed to "RY4" after threats of litigation over trademark infringement by SBT Investment Holdings Ltd. (formerly the Ruyan Company), which owns the registered trademark.

No, I always distinguish macerated (whether cold-steeped or heated) or steam-distilled NETs from commercial TA and don't regard them as similar. Although both are made from real, "natural" tobacco, they bear little resemblance in terms of flavor. Commercial TA (usually Bulgarian) is more like a super-super-concentrated essential oil of tobacco and is used only in extreme dilutions of 5% or less, and even then very sparingly. By contrast, NETs are more like steeped tea---flavinoids and other flavor elements of the tobacco leaf dissolved/suspended in a base of all-PG, all-VG, or a mix of both. The extracts are usually not very concentrated.

Where it gets a little dicey is with a vendor such as VelvetCloudVapor, which has its own in-house process to create proprietary TA (a process that requires sophisticated machinery and isn't cheap) for their tobacco blend juices. VCV's TA is, in some ways, closer to an NET in that it doesn't taste much like commercial TA. VCV uses Burley and Virginian tobaccos rather than the Bulgarian of commercial TA. I'd guess also that VCV's TA is not nearly as super-concentrated as commercial TA.

Many vendors add a little TA to their synthetic lab-based tobacco juices to lend a smoky or slightly ashy taste to the artificial tobacco flavor. Mom&PopVaporShop and Moondrop are two of the most obvious in that they sometimes use TA all by itself in their tobacco blends. I don't think of either as an NET vendor, however.

Dude, thanks for the tip. The VAMO is indeed a very nice PV, I own two of them and have used them in the various battery configurations, usually with a single 18350. I also own a Provari and now the ZMAX Mini. All of them are superb devices. What I like the most about the ZMAX Mini is the small size/weight for what it does. This little dude will fit nicely in a shirt pocket without weighting it down. Cannot say that about the VAMO or Provari. All of them have their pluses and minuses.

Bill, I prefer the VAMO's menu system over the Provari and ZMAX as well. Oh well, I guess we cannot have everything we want! I still use Ego Twists a lot too. The Ego Twists have been my preferred out and about PV but I think the ZMAX Mini may take the Ego's place as my favorite traveling PV.

Getting back on topic - Passer's Frenchy RY4 just keeps getting better! I have vaped 5 of the 6 mls he sent me a few days ago.

The reviews on this one is only 3 stars and I would give it 5. Its a nice classic RY4 with hints of caramel and tobacco witha small touch of nuts. It reminds me of a old school RY4. The tobacco is heavy on this one, has the Kamel Chinese taste and I am sure steeping will bring the true. Not a desert vape. Its sharp and to the point. Good stuff and with just 2 drops per 3ml I am set along time for a nice Classic RY4

I wonder that, too, Randy. Don's was the first uber-popular Custom RY4. How hard could it be to come up with something RY4-like to replace it? Maybe ole' Don got fed up with the whole fame and pressure thing and threw in the towel.

I still have 15mls of BWB RY4---now more than two years old. I had 20, but I sent 5mls to scarf-ace in Australia last year. Heck, 15mls will be enough to last me forever.

Some posters on the DIY threads for VapingZone and EcigExpress hold that the VapingZone Super-Concentrated Flavorings are virtually identical to the EcigExpress Flavors Express line of very concentrated flavoring, specifically with regard to the RY4s. Re-labeled, obviously, and sometimes renamed or slightly reformulated, but essentially the same flavorings from one source manufacturer. They're both from China, and both were offered initially at the respective vendors within a month of each other. I don't know personally, since I haven't bought any of the VapingZone Super Concentrates---for the price of a 5ml bottle from VapingZone, EcigExpress offers a 10ml bottle ($3.99), so for me, the decision was just bang-for-the-buck.

Although neither vendor has stepped forward to resolve the question once and for all, the general consensus of opinion among DIY posters seems to be that the tobacco super-concentrates in both lines are very similar---if not identical, at least close.

Anyway, using the same 3% mix, I find the EcigExpress Tobacco Express RY4 flavoring to make a Classic RY4 that's all right, but not great. Not nearly as good as the DIY FlavourArt Legend RY4 or Hangsen Essence RY4.

If you like the VapingZone RY4 Super-Concentrate a lot, however, maybe it's different (and better) than the Tobacco Express RY4 flavoring from EcigExpress. I guess I'll have to buy some and find out for myself. Or not. LOL.

The Really Big RY4 Report Card

The grades given for these retail RY4s are my opinion only. They are also current judgments and may differ from grades I gave in the past. So please understand that if you base a buying decision solely on this list, you might end up getting an RY4 that I like rather than one you’ll like, since my tastes and palate are unlikely to match yours perfectly---in some cases, not even remotely.

Within each grade, the RY4s are listed in alphabetical order. This kind of judging is ridiculous enough without splitting hairs or nit-picking between RY4s within the same grade.

Mixing Percentages
The key to making good DIY RY4 from Pre-Mixed RY4 flavorings and concentrates is knowing how much (or rather, how little) flavoring to use. Flavorings require a higher percentage; concentrates work at lower percentages. Use too much of either and you will ruin the juice. I cannot stress this strongly enough. Start out mixing lean. Then---if necessary---add more flavoring very sparingly. Test-vape after each small addition of flavor. Keep in mind that the flavors will “bloom” with steeping---a DIY RY4 that seems to lack flavor when new may magically mature into full-flavor after two weeks, so exercise both patience and restraint.

When making a small bottle of DIY RY4 (6mls or less) using a very concentrated flavoring, adding even two drops to an existing mix can be enough to wreck the flavor profile. Increase the flavoring only one drop at a time. Remember: Less is best, and more is not necessarily better. Err on the side of using too little flavoring rather than too much! Below are my recommended percentages for different brands of RY4 flavorings:

Has totally wicked patriot Ry4 changed its flavour since, say about a year ago? A little surprised how highly that's ranked, I remember having that, as I say, about a year ago and wasn't especially enamoured with the juice. I always recall, with patriot the strangely odd aftertaste, it was one of a slightly bitter, almost paracetamol like flavour. Even after considerable steeping it remained, though was mellowed somewhat into a more rounded tobacco heavy blend. Perhaps I just had a dodgy mix. It was a 30ml bottle and I've certainly vaped it all so it couldn't have been that bad! Still, that one ranked in the A class was a shock!

Anyway, as you've always said bill, its your list, and taste is very much subjective here. If it were me, I'd see Joytech Ry4 placed higher, probably into the A or A- category and maybe TriBeCa turned down a cat or two, I like that juice and I always want to get more (tricky in the uk, not many vendors have it and those that do charge a small fortune for it) but for me its not Atypical Ry4, I dunno, there's 'something else' there in that juice. At the time, it always distinctly reminded me of totally wicked's Titan RY3. In fact before Tw changed their flavours across their Titan range i swear it was dam near identical. You'll all just have to trust me on that one, current day Titan Ry3 is nothing like TriBeCa sadly.

I have read that also some yes but them some say they are not but close lol I have looked at all Tobacco Express Tobaccos and there is nothing saying what they are or reviews on them, I know what the RY4 is but the others is just a pay and guessing game lol So I have just stuck with VapingZone. I have some Legend, I just like the VapingZone because it reminds me of a older RY4 thats just sharp and to the point with no thrills....

Some posters on the DIY threads for VapingZone and EcigExpress hold that the VapingZone Super-Concentrated Flavorings are virtually identical to the EcigExpress Flavors Express line of very concentrated flavoring, specifically with regard to the RY4s. Re-labeled, obviously, and sometimes renamed or slightly reformulated, but essentially the same flavorings from one source manufacturer. They're both from China, and both were offered initially at the respective vendors within a month of each other. I don't know personally, since I haven't bought any of the VapingZone Super Concentrates---for the price of a 5ml bottle from VapingZone, EcigExpress offers a 10ml bottle ($3.99), so for me, the decision was just bang-for-the-buck.

Although neither vendor has stepped forward to resolve the question once and for all, the general consensus of opinion among DIY posters seems to be that the tobacco super-concentrates in both lines are very similar---if not identical, at least close.

Anyway, using the same 3% mix, I find the EcigExpress Tobacco Express RY4 flavoring to make a Classic RY4 that's all right, but not great. Not nearly as good as the DIY FlavourArt Legend RY4 or Hangsen Essence RY4.

If you like the VapingZone RY4 Super-Concentrate a lot, however, maybe it's different (and better) than the Tobacco Express RY4 flavoring from EcigExpress. I guess I'll have to buy some and find out for myself. Or not. LOL.

I have read that also some yes but them some say they are not but close lol I have looked at all Tobacco Express Tobaccos and there is nothing saying what they are or reviews on them, I know what the RY4 is but the others is just a pay and guessing game lol So I have just stuck with VapingZone.

There were many reviews of Tobacco Express Ruyan and RY4 flavorings on the old EcigExpress site, but when ECX changed over to its new web site design, all those old reviews went to cyber-heaven, although they weren't all that favorable to begin with. But then, the decidedly lukewarm customer reviews of VZ RY4 super-concentrate didn't seem to deter you. LOL.

Hey, I'm glad you like the VZ RY4 concentrate. As I wrote, I'll order a 5ml bottle at some point and give it a try.

Has totally wicked patriot Ry4 changed its flavour since, say about a year ago? A little surprised how highly that's ranked, I remember having that, as I say, about a year ago and wasn't especially enamoured with the juice. I always recall, with patriot the strangely odd aftertaste, it was one of a slightly bitter, almost paracetamol like flavour. Even after considerable steeping it remained, though was mellowed somewhat into a more rounded tobacco heavy blend. Perhaps I just had a dodgy mix. It was a 30ml bottle and I've certainly vaped it all so it couldn't have been that bad! Still, that one ranked in the A class was a shock!

Anyway, as you've always said bill, its your list, and taste is very much subjective here. If it were me, I'd see Joytech Ry4 placed higher, probably into the A or A- category and maybe TriBeCa turned down a cat or two, I like that juice and I always want to get more (tricky in the uk, not many vendors have it and those that do charge a small fortune for it) but for me its not Atypical Ry4, I dunno, there's 'something else' there in that juice. At the time, it always distinctly reminded me of totally wicked's Titan RY3. In fact before Tw changed their flavours across their Titan range i swear it was dam near identical. You'll all just have to trust me on that one, current day Titan Ry3 is nothing like TriBeCa sadly.

I don't know if TW has changed or not. What I do know is that every so often the mere power of suggestion is enough to co-opt my brain. Someone says, "I love XYZ juice," and I'm more inclined to like it. Or, as in this case, someone says, "Gosh, XYZ juice has a strange aftertaste," and my brain says "Yeah, yuk!" That brain kidnapping doesn't happen every time, but I'd by lying if I protested that it never occurs. By the way, I had to look up "paracetamol." That must be the UK version of acetaminophen. Gosh, do you chew those pills? LOL.

One reason that Tribeca is rated so highly is that I hated it at first---it had the old Halo "Purity" taste, which my brain interprets as hospital disinfectant/bug spray---and then, wonder of wonders, it did a miraculous long-steeping turnaround. So, it's a little like the Ugly Ducking that turned into a Swan for me. When you wrote "it's not Atypical Ry4," did you mean that Tribeca isn't a typical RY4 for you? I agree with you that there's something else in there, which is precisely what makes Tribeca Atypical for me. Yes, I see that it was listed as "classic," but that's just a simple mistake. Tribeca is a Custom RY4. I'll edit that.

Keep in mind also that the grades I give on The RY4 Report Card change---sometimes substantially---from one update to another. Some RY4s have bounced up and down the Report Card like pinballs. LOL.

I seem to recall that at some point long ago you posted your own Top 10 RY4s on the thread, or something to that effect. Care to do so again with an updated current list? In fact, I'll extend that invitation/challenge to all RY4 aficionados who read this thread. C'mon folks. I show you my list every couple of months. How about showing me yours?
