Ill chim in here, RAF was my fav RY4 of all time and I accepted it as a RY4 even though it was known to have a little something extra and I only give luv to that as calling it a RY4, the only thing I found to replace that luv was Janty DK RY4 they are different but very close to my taste. but as Dunhill I am not sure what sets it aside from a RY4 because if Dunhill is just vanilla, tobacco, and caramel then why wasnt it just called a RY4

at my age, anything else is a waste of precious energy

And I ain't hidin' from nobody

Oh, and that's the way it's supposed to be

hehe, who'd a thunk vaping would lend itself to such lofty meanderings  an enjoyable and thought provoking read Bill

to stay vaguely on topic I have an ry4 question

I had a revelation re: my increasingly favored Dunhill ... I think I know what it tastes like or rather what was born out of it ... and that is the legendary Raf-a-licious ... Raf may have been a bit more intense but there is a similarity, at least to my taste ... you'll need a clean or non-sweetened palette, I was vaping a cigar previously and when I later vaped this, the flavor difference was strongly apparent and very reminiscent of Raf, imho ... give it a taste, see what ya think, let's see if we can start a run on Dunhill :p did you ever consider Raf to be an ry4 variant ?

I would like to make some more comments about Midas RY4, this is a really great RY4 it has such a great taste to it that keeps me going back, but the flavor is not constant, and I have never seen it change so much in a juice, some hits you get a smokyness at first and then other times you just get sweetness, I could blame it on my cartos but no other juices act like this, and the other issue is the price 14.00 shipped for 15ml and 23.00 shipped for 30ml, these two factors are not great big deal breakers but enough not vape this juice full time, if the price matched the quality then this juice would be #1 in my RY4 list but until then Janty DK RY4 still is king!!

Dunhill cigarettes have been around over 100 years, and ownership has passed thru Rothmans and eventually to British American Tobacco Company, and unfortunately Dunhill International Cigarettes (only the American distributorship) is now owned by RJ Reynolds (boo)

I don't know for sure that Dunhill has any or all of those flavor components or a dozen more ... I think the Chinese juice makers were more interested in replicating the actual cigarette taste, since it is very popular in Europe, Asia, and most of the world except here in America ... I suppose international ex-smokers who switched to vaping would far prefer to vape their familiar Dunhill brand and flavor rather than some unknown juice with a weird name and a vague description, even if it was a close flavor ... maybe they didn't consider it as an ry4 ? maybe a marketing decision ?

so I'm curious ... do you taste a real ry4 formula in Dunhill, or do you taste Raf ? ... do you consider Raf to be a true ry4 or just a close variant ?

I'm confused   all I know is that, to me, Dunhill has a similar initial taste as Raf, whether that's an ry or not ... but that's just my taste, ymmv ... widely :)

I do enjoy my Dunhill whatever it tastes like to anyone else :2c:

So what Dunhill juice taste like RAf I will order some and try it? Dekang says Dunhill is a luxury tobacco blend with subtle woody, earthy notes that will please any fan of this particular brand of cigarette, so are we talking about Dunhill becuz it remided you of one RY4? At this point I just cant find any reason why Dunhill has anything to do with RY4s

I still have 100 mls of RAF. I vape it here and there. That something extra that passerbyeus is referring might be the sour note. I don't know exactly what it is, but it has somewhat of a sour finish. I'm no RY4 guru, I've probably had 20 RY4s in my life, I can liken RAFs sour note to Ikenvape's RY4.

page and everyone,

Raf-a-licious was in the Sweet & Sour Category Group until AVE discontinued it. I don't personally discern any sourness in IKV Gold RY4, but that could be just my palate.

While similar to nuttiness in not being considered a common component of RY4s, sourness---as a way of counterbalancing sweetness and heightening it by contrast---is an element of numerous RY4s, some of them among the most highly-rated on The Big List. All four versions I've vaped of Janty RY4 have some sourness, including Janty RY4 DK, which was the first-ever original RY4. Dekang chose to leave out the sourness in their copies of Janty RY4, and somehow---probably because of Dekang's huge sales---that became the way most subsequent RY4s were made, with no sourness. We could, however, make the case that Classic RY4s "should" contain that sour element, since the original recipe for RY4 did.

Here's the list of RY4 with a sour element from the most recent update of the Category Groups page:

Sweet & Sour
Janty RY4 (DK Series)
Janty RY4 (Classic Series)
Janty RY4-X (Classic Series)
Janty RY4 PG (Elixir Series)
Mom&PopVaporShop RY4v2
MyVapeCreations RY4 (not sweet)
MyVapeCreations CigaRY4 (not sweet)
ParkesVaping RY4
Vapebar RY4-LE (Australia)
VaporBeast Holy Grail RY4
Vapor..... OuR-Y4
Vaporescence RY4
VermillionRiver KY4

Also, if memory serves me, there's never been any question on this thread about whether or not Raf-a-licious was an RY4. It clearly is, or rather, was. Raf-a-licious made it onto The Big RY4 List soon after it was first offered by AVE, although it's now been moved under the "Discontinued/Unavailable" heading and removed from the Category Groups. That's simply because the purpose of those lists is to help people find an RY4 they can actually order. It's still on The RY4 Report Card, however, if only for sentimental reasons. Raf was a wonderful Custom RY4, with many fans, including me.

-----

As a side note on another topic---in this thread, RY4s are divided into either of type types: Classic or Custom. We started out discussing RY4s versus RY4-variants, but that became unwieldy for many reasons, among them the implication that anything called RY4 was "the real thing," while RY4-variants (meaning juices that taste like RY4s but aren't named as such) were somehow inauthentic or inferior in stature. So, we retired that designation. I came up with the terms Classic and Custom, which don't contain any implicit judgments, and they've served us well on the thread. Every RY4, whatever it's named, is either Classic or Custom for our purposes, although a few RY4s do seem to to straddle the fence, so to speak, with one foot in each type. Those few exception don't invalidate the usefulness of the division, however.

I've left numerous posts about the different qualities that make an RY4 Classic or Custom, and how to make that determination for oneself. Here's my most recent effort to explain again:

Distinguishing Classic from Custom RY4s - post #3512

Wanted to report on what I talked about trying a few days ago in this thread. I had W2V CI Cigar and the cigar the NET is extracted from, Drew Estate's ACID Cold-Infusion Tea. Vaped the juice, smoked the cigar, to find the similarities. The cigar was fantastic, better than the Kuba Kuba I smoked the day before. Not really interested in trying the Kuba Kuba NET W2V offers through another vendor.

The cigar smells very much like botanicals. To my pleasant suprise, what I was smelling isn't too strong in the smoke. It's there, if I said it was a just a hint would be inaccurate, it's a little more than a hint but not much. The e-liquid, on the other hand, tastes just like the cigar smells. Not too suprising, those infused botanicals in the tobacco would transfer easily in a maceration, and vaping of course provides flavor without combustion.

Some things I can safely say, any former cigar smoker who didn't care for the unique infusions in the ACID line of cigars would be best to stay away from W2V CI Cigar and The "Blond". Any fan of those cigars who loved the flavor needs to check out these NETs.

But, what about the usual vaper who didn't smoke cigars? It's a tough juice to recommend. For the adventurous vaper, try it. It's very unique and I haven't tasted anything like it. If someone likes cigar NET vapes, it's well made and worth a try. But the botanicals and other flavors makes it really hard to predict if it will work for someone. Someone saying they hate it, and someone saying they love it, are both making very valid and understandable opinions.

I'm also going to compare The "Blond" juice with Blondie cigar, but any more discussions on these liquids I'll do in the Natural Tobacco thread instead of this RY4 thread.

For an on-topic post, I have a bottle of Virginia Flake RY4 from MOV. Received my first order from MOV a couple days ago, the RY4 with a few of their other NETs. The two I've tried so far, Sunday Morning and Pendragon, both have me enamoured. Not only are they flavors I enjoy, the levels of depth and balance are very impressive and points to well thought out, complex juices made by someone skilled at the art. Sunday Morning pulls a rare feat of dark, rich tobacco in a fairly light and clean amber liquid.

These two give me high expectations for the RY4, and I'll be pretty disappointed if they don't display the same level of balance and quality. I just checked out Bill's original review, and it looks promising for me. I have opened it and the scent was a pretty noticable caramel which smelled very good. Probably start vaping it tomorrow.

Jerms,

Of the new crop of NET-based RY4s from MOV, Ahlusion, QuickNic, and MyVapeJuice, MOV's Full Virginia Flake RY4 is the most accessible, in my opinion. For RY4 fans who may not have experienced NETs, MOV FVF RY4 isn't as much of a stretch as the other three. Not that the tobacco is less distinctive---like all of MOV's new NETs, FVF is deep and complex---but its flavor profile is calmer, and the overall taste is closer to the RY4s that most vapers know. It's also a delicious RY4---wonderfully blended, like a good Classic, but deeper in flavor, like a good Custom. The tobacco used for the NET harmonizes beautifully with the particular caramel and vanilla flavors MOV chose. As I've written, I hardly ever vape RY4 for pleasure anymore, but MOV FVF RY4 would be a likely candidate if I did.

For me, Sunday Morning is the big winner in MOV's new line-up of NETs. I had a beta version of Pendragon and recommended to Steve that he kick up the amount of flavoring used. I purchased a bottle of the revised, "richer" version, but I think it still needs more flavor punch. Southern Gentleman is OK, but I'm still waiting for the official release of a beta I had called Two Rivers. That one was as yummy as Sunday Morning.

Bill, have they set a date to release the new flavor? Haven't heard anything lately.

I haven't heard a peep about it. I infer from what he's shared with me that Steve has a whole bunch of new NETs in long-term, no-heat-slow-extraction mode, but even saying that is really just me reading between the lines.

MOV NETs are starting to get a little more love over on the NT thread. I think they could really blow some doors off with a new one or two if they're good.

Let me take a moment to post another shout-out for IndigoVapor's two RY4s: Indigo RY4 and Indigo Classic.

When we vape RY4s, we want our brains to say, "Ahhh, yes. RY4!" We don't want our brains to say, "What?"

To me, Indigo RY4 is a tad sweeter, while Indigo Classic has slightly stronger tobacco, but both are wonderfully crafted, well-balanced RY4s, where all the flavor ingredients harmonize beautifully to produce the desired reaction of "Ahhh, yes. RY4!"

I just grabbed the two 50-cartridge ammo racks on my desk that are filled with 100 cartos all loaded with different RY4s and did a quick comparison vape-off on a VAMO set to 8 watts RMS. Keep in mind that this test was not comprehensive. I excluded all NET RY4s and all DIY RY4s, and I stopped when my palate reached exhaustion and my brain began to turn to silly putty.

Here are some RY4s that made my brain say, “Ahhh, RY4!”

Apollo RY4
AwesomeClouds AC3
CrystalELiquid RY4 Double Tobacco
GoodLifeVapor Hooligan
MrVape RY4
MyVapeJuice RY4
RWVapors RY4
SmokelessImage Volt RY4
Sweet-Vapes RY4
TopShelf RY4 (a surprise)
TotallyWicked Patriot USA RY4
VapeBar RY4 (Australia)
VapeBig RY4 (another surprise)
VapeRite VR4
VapeSales RY4
Vixen Vapor RY4

Here's a bunch where my brain said: “Well, sort of…”

AltCig RY4
CloudsofVapor COV 4 (very caramelly)
CrystalELiquid RY4
ECBlend Ruyan 4
EliteVaporworks RY4
ElixirLiquid RY4
MtOlympus RY4
MtOlympus Double Happy RY4
NashvilleVapor Professor Marvel’s Blend (that was a surprise)
ParkesVaping RY4
eSmoke4Life Riskee Yuice
SpringVapor RY4s (all three)
TimelessVapor RY4
VapeDoctor RY4
VapeKing VK4 (delicious, but too nutty for an RY4)
ZeusE-Juice Creamy RY4

And here's a group where my brain reacted less in the “Ah, RY4” way and more in the, “What?” way:

CopperCreek Twisted Tobacco
DeeJStuff RY4
DIYFlavorShack RY4s (all of them)
ECBlend RY4 Extra Caramel
MtBakerVapor RY4
MyVapeCreation RY4
OrbVapor RY4 (intensely sweet)
ZeusE-Juice RY4

What strikes me today after this little vape-off is that the “What?” response typically occurs for a couple of different but related reasons: 1. the core flavors don’t harmonize well (instead, they clash), 2. the tobacco element isn’t neutral enough, or 3. the tobacco is odd in a weird way that detracts from the overall experience of the vape.

Looks like I need to change some grades on The Big RY4 Report Card. LOL. As always, your mileage is guaranteed to vary from mine, which is inevitable and totally OK. So, take my opinions with a big grain of salt.
