Hi all, Darrel, Darrell, Scott and rest of crew I might have missed.

Yep, doing ok, things come and go. Darrell, I got a ukelele for my little one, actually a pretty nice one for about 70.00. Good thing about them is they are normally tuned in an open tuning. Cadd6 for the type I bought. The small size and being able to make chords just by barring at one fret makes it easy for the little ones to get some satisfaction. Plus, that uke is as loud as my regular acoustics. Really sounds good. I have fun playing it as well. My boy is learning how to strum it with his index finger and is starting to pick out single notes on the fretboard.

He doesn't play it often but it's always available and if he asks I get it for him. Sometimes we'll play together and just work on rhythm techniques. Being that it's open tuning he can focus on his right hand technique without worrying about fretting anything. Hmmm.... No fretting about fretting. That's a good thing :)

Guess I'm feeling better after all, starting to get back to normal :)

Edit: "normal" - such a subjective term....

Rattler,

One thing I might suggest is putting the guitar you bought for your granddaughter in open tuning, since you already have it. Might make things a bit more melodious around the house :)

Yes that may sure help. I think Mrs Rattler is ready for ear plugs and my daughter is adamant that it stays here at my house…..lol I love it.
We may move to a drum set next week.

Thanks Scott, I appreciate it. It's a very bitter-sweet kind of thing when my son goes to see his mom. On the one hand I need the break, and he needs to see his mom - it's what's best for him. On the other I miss him so when he's not here. The good news is that he had two parents that love him dearly and he needs that.

Eventually all the crap related to the divorce will settle down. Mom will be able to have unsupervised visits eventually. The dust will settle and a routine for my boy will be in place. Just have to wait for that all to happen, but it will. It is my strong desire that eventually, once all the dust settles, that his mom and I are able to have a decent relationship as parents. It's what's best for the little one and everything I do is driven by that. Hasn't made me any friends on her side lately but I do what I need to..... One day she'll understand.... In the meantime I'm like a mama bear with her cub :)

i make a point of buying drum kits, vuvezelas and all kinds of noisy toys for colleagues' children! They dread it.

For kids, open tuning is a godsend - when i first started playing a guitar, it was some crappy old Spanish thing and my hands were too small to form barre chords, so i gave it up for a while and had another go a few years later.

By the time i was at university and being the idle dosser that i am , i was making more money playing a guitar than any of my mates, who were doing summer jobs at amusement parks etc and having to look stuipid in costumes and tracksuits. I played acoustic ragtime fingerpicking guitar since i was about 14. Gave it up largely when i got serious about earning money.

And you too, T!

Ragtime finger picking, I bet that was fun. I want to get back into Delta Blues, which I had studied for a bit many years ago. Had a book published by the Smithsonian which had a little floppy vinyl record in it. I can't find that book anywhere these days. I look from time to time. It had a really good finger picking version of Bob Dylan's Buckets of Rain on it as well as traditional Delta Blues. Maybe one day I'll run across it again. Hopefully updated with a CD :)

Hi Sedge, I see you're lurking about so wanted to say "hi" to you as well!

You spotted me. I always try to stay up with Reoville though I don't post much. It is the easiest thread to like every post.[emoji1] I love how everyone shares about their day and lives and knows each other intimately.
