Hi Val! Might I just bring up something you might want to consider?

What I am thinking is that the lone dog has gone in protective mode. With your physical impairments it is likely that he is guarding you. That would make him act out towards anyone or thing that seems to cause you concern. A child that might move quickly, step in your way or bump you would be a likely target.

Also a new cat can cause the dog to act out if he feels like he is not getting as much attention.

Your DH can take the lead position but the dog still might have the problem when you are the only one home. It seems to me that you need to assert your dominance and let your dog know that you are the protector and not him.

Often as humans our emotional state can throw the balance of power way off. Animals see it as weakness.

Just my thoughts.

Now for my announcement!

Things have happened in the last week and I am happy to say that I will be making a trip next month to Bellingham WA. Lisa has welcomed me for a visit! So, I will fly there and have already booked my flight and hotel.

I am so excited! It was something I wanted to do for a long while. Thanks to the generosity of Dennis and his air miles it is now possible!

Never in my wildest dreams did I think someone would be so nice!!

It will probably be the greatest trip in my lifetime!

hehehe!

I will let him answer that one!

Only thing I know is he has a lot less now! Still hard to believe the self proclaimed "creepy stalker" could be so very nice!

Karen you do know the timeline of her house build and upcoming move right. From what I recall you will be there right in time to slave away moving boxes

Jk Lisa :D

So when is the time of the move? I need to be planning on being busy somewhere else.

Evening all. :)

My late pass through. :D

I think it will be a little early for that Darrel! But might be available for some packing boxes!!!

We had conversations about her schedule before things were done. So I am hoping we will have some good quality time when I am there.

I have never been to Washington. One of the few states that I always wanted to visit. With someone I know and consider a good friend there it was a no brainer as my choice.

Karen that is great! And I agree about the pics, we MUST have pics! That is just wonderful that you get a nice vacation with Lisa. Den is wonderful isn't he? I am so excited for you!

Both DH and I have lived in Washington, though different cities at different times. We both loved it though, and if not for his kids would move there gladly. You are gonna have such a wonderful time! The only thing that could make it better is to see Darrel. I don't know if you need a passport for that though?

As for the dog, she used to be so friendly to everyone! The first time she wasn't friendly was just a growl at the next door neighbor's toddler on Halloween (which I didn't even count in the 2 times she actually lunged) and DH corrected her immediately. The first time she lunged was at a baby in a mother's arms. We were all "oh, look at the nice doggie." No threat what-so-ever to me or her, no fast movements or crying from the baby. You are right that is was just me with her though, and I thought really hard if it could have been to protect me, but I just can't figure that it was?

The last time was 5 adults standing around talking with a kid a bit hyper and I can't be sure the kid didn't do anything. But she was off leash, and if not for the quick action of another adult would have succeeded in biting him. She will never be near a kid again. DH was crushed that we had to make that decision, but both agree it has to be that way. If she ever bit a kid it would be the end of the dog, no question.

And yes, she definitely gets less attention from me with the new cat here, but no different from when I had Beau. We kept her on leash when they met, and separated for the most part until we were certain they got along. She even let the cat steal her bed when we finally let them be together (which was hysterical btw) but we bought the cat a bed the very next day and that fixed that. She just seemed pretty confused and sad that the cat was in her bed, not aggressive at all, and just went over and laid on her blanket and let the cat sleep in her bed. That was when things were going well. :(

Yes, either a passport or Enhanced Drivers License

I've bitten my dogs too. Seems silly, but it worked for me with the two dogs I've done it to. The only problem is that other humans around you may not understand what you are doing and have a tough time accepting it. Little Jas is too aggressive for kids, so I keep her in her kennel when the grandbabies are around. It breaks my heart to do so, but its hard to break the trauma she went through with kids at the last place she lived. She doesn't mind her box....she sees it as a place of refuge so it's the best thing to do for us.

My girlfriend from Seattle came up to visit this evening and took me out to dinner....and omg...it was awesome. Been meaning to try this place forever and just never got around to it. super good food and lovely ambiance. Giuseppe's Italian Restaurant - Bellingham, WA

Then after we left as we were walking to the car she pointed out some nearby activity and I realized that we were right across the parking lot from another place I've been dying to go, but never made the time. We went in and got a tour....we're sold. Making another girls night out to go paint the town....literally.

Good Morning REOVille. After last weekend's meltdown, I've ordered an Xtar XP4 charger, several batteries and separate battery cases for each size battery. Now I should be able to 'Charge and Store', which is what I should have been doing in the first place.
Enjoy the Weekend (sounds like Lisa already is) and Have a Safe and Blessed Day :)
