Good evening all. Hey Tim, I hope who/what ever is on your back gets off soon. I know this has been going on a while. Just bear in mind that being under continuous stress can make you more sensitive to the matter at hand, thereby magnifying your feelings.

So, in other words, do what you have to, and take a break from it whenever you can so things don't appear worse than they are. Hard to do, I know, but things are easier to deal with when we feel stronger.

Here's hoping for a quick resolution!

Good evening...thought I would stop by and say hello. I was lucky enough to score a Reos Mini/RM atty in the classifieds and it should be here by the weekend:rickroll: I've watched a few videos and very excited to get this setup. I've used mechanical mods for quite awhile, and think this will be a perfect setup for work and out and about. So when I get in trouble I'll be here asking a thousand questions:laugh:

Success! We have a working sink in the bathroom again :)

Of course there was a bit of collateral damage.

Nothing that shouldn't heal though ;)
Most importantly, The Evil One has been appeased....for today :)

That looks great! Can you come over and do mine?

:D

It wasn't too bad (relatively). Other than the steep learning curve and multiple trips to Lowe's, I probably wouldn't hesitate to do another one (which is a good thing as The Evil One has plans on adding an upstairs bathroom in the semi-near future). The learning curve would probably save my back next time.

HINT: hook up all the faucet and drain stuff BEFORE you put the counter top on.

Just as a forewarning: When you are replacing an existing bathroom you usually don't have too many concerns about the capacity of the infrastructure in place, i.e. the size of the water lines, waste lines, venting etc. Were it designed today it might be slightly different as code requirements change with time but generally speaking you won't have problems.

When adding an additional bathroom such concerns may arise. For example, you can only put so many faucets on 1/2" water lines before you run into reduced pressure at the faucet if all are in use. If you have to extend drain lines because you're tying into existing plumbing that's not close to the new bathroom you may have to add additional venting (waste lines) or increase line sizes (waste and/or water) to accommodate the increase in water in and out. Often times you can get away without it but it won't pass code. What you don't want to have happen is having water pulled out of the waste pipe traps as that lets harmful gas into your interior living space. Nor do you want 2 people trying to use the facilities and overwhelm the rated capacity.

You may already be aware of all this, just wanted to bring it up in case you're not. Might be worth it to check with a licensed plumber to find if what you have in place can accommodate the new bathroom and, if not, what you would need to do to do it right.

We checked on that when we had the new shower and toilet installed. We also replaced the old lead waste pipe in the basement with a new pvc one that I believe has a bit more capacity than the old one. The guy who installed them for us told us we were good with the new pipe for up to 3 bathrooms :) We also have a grey field for all the sinks and laundry to drain into. We've been planning the second bathroom since we bought this place several years ago. They did install a new vent and when we do finally add the new bathroom, we should be able to run an additional vent up through the attic if necessary. Thanks for the tips though :) I'll have to double check the water pipes. We replaced all the old galvanized crap with copper shortly after we took possession. I know we used a lot of 3/4" pipe, but there is some 1/2" in a few places. Our pressure is pretty good though as we upgraded to a 1hp well pump with an 80gal tank in the spring. I'm really hoping we can ease up a bit for the rest of the year. Otherwise we'll be pricing barrels for our fall fashion ;)

Good, sounds like you've covered your bases. Knowing that you may need to add a vent and how you'll do it and also that some of the water pipe may need to be resized for a short run is just about all the battle. Doesn't sound like you'll need to do much, which is great. And now you know more about the trim out than you did before so you should be in good shape!

Yup, we've got a bit more to do in the bathroom. There's bead board to put up and I need to get some doors up for the cabinet. I think (or I've been told rather) that we're going to put in glass doors for the new shower. We're debating between the sliding ones and the the regular opening kind. I like the looks of the sliders, but some of the reviews are saying it's next to impossible to clean the small portion where they overlap. Have you ever dealt with those?

Can't say that I have. I think there are always issues with cleaning shower doors down by hinges or slides and the tracks that redirect water back into shower and off your floor. I wear bifocals, but not in the shower and I don't bend over too well so it's not likely to bother me either way. Can't see it :) Then again, I don't have an Evil One to make sure that I do see it ;) I'm much more concerned about getting out of the shower alive and, well, we have to pick and choose our battles now, don't we, hehehe.

In all seriousness though I never had to deal with that kind of stuff in my plumbing days. We just put it in. Homeowner had to keep them clean. My mom has the big acrylic wall showers with doors on hinges and she hasn't complained of them being difficult to clean. But she just has a house cleaner come in an do it. Not much help here am I ;)
