Dang! I got a bit busy with working thru the holidays and missed being able to cheer @Sloth Tonight through his building project and send cyber hugs to @Papa_Lazarou, so I’m gonna do it now!
 and Hug, Hug, Hug to you and all who were affected! (Gonna keep up those good thoughts as the Clean-up and re-buildwill take time.)

I’m off to bed cause it’s been a long stretch of retail wonderland and only a few more to go, but I had to say hey! We had some strong winds down here on Xmas Eve that knocked down some trees and our electricity (just for hours) so I can only imagine how powerful it was up north. Wowser!

Here’s to a peaceful beginning to 2019. Cheers!

Good grief, what a storm. Even extending down into NoCal a bit. Sounds like pure havoc up north. At least there was only one fatality, not that numbers matter overly much to me (one death is too much). It's such a shame when people suffer substantial damage from these storms. A garage and RV taken out is no small dent in the wallet, not to mention the psychological turmoil and physical exhaustion it leads to (let alone the "what if it had been worse" aspect).

Moments of disaster tend to bring communities together, so at least yours was able to bond at a bonfire with good tunes in the aftermath.

I've been lucky to not witness many bad storms in my life. The worst I've been in was Irene. Lived in Vermont at the time. It wiped my village clean...500 homes destroyed. I'll never forget how we all came together in its wake to help one another. It shook everyone up in part because we're not used to such things up here. Worst we usually get are blizzards, which everyone is prepared for and pales in comparison to tornadoes, wind storms, fire, earthquakes etc. Of course, ice storms can happen (somewhat rare, usually too cold for that) and wind storms have afflicted us before. Last year we had epic flooding in February during a warm spell, when the rivers broke and dammed with ice. 1,000 homes were flooded along the Canadian border, and a guest coming from Montreal had to take a multi-hour detour to get here as a result (dedication, I tell you).

So far, so good this winter. Knock. On. Wood.

Beautifully said Mr Sloth. Tis amazing how communities can come together following a disaster. I live in a small community that has had major flooding about every 10 years (they used to be called “100 year floods” but climate change has edited that). The positive of the repeated detestation is that we are a close knit (although quirky) community. Heck, we have so many fund raisers for everything from the senior center to the fire department that fund raisers are part of our entertainment. Haha.

Last year when the city of Santa Rosa, 20 miles away, experienced devestating fires, it was a pleasure to lend support. We know what it feels like when Mother Nature takes the reigns. And now we are seeing how the victims of that fire are traveling north to Paradise (Butte County) and lending support to the folks who have recently lost all. Tough times yet the human spirit is amazing.....

Happy almost 2019...!

I'm tentatively planning a Cali trip next Spring (the desert is calling, and has been since I left it behind last May). There's a part of me that would like to travel to places like Paradise to witness first-hand what happened there. Couldn't believe my eyes as I watched footage and read articles. Might've shed a tear or two at the images I saw.

Perhaps I'll keep you in mind, Robino, on my next visit. Always love meeting a fellow Reonaut for a vape and a coffee or such :)

The following picture adequately represents my facial expression upon realizing I had installed Windows on the new PC in Legacy mode instead of UEFI...re-formatting, here we go again...

Hmmm... I believe you might be able to convert from the old BIOS to UEFI using the MBR2GPT tool without having to reformat.

For some reason, it wasn't validating my disk. Spent a while troubleshooting, but caved. Actually moving quickly, though - about 60% done already :thumb:

I would absolutely love meeting you in person and sharing a vape. I live in a very different habitat than the desert though. We have very tall redwoods and lush forests. California is so large that we have just about every habitat covered from low deserts, high elevation mountains, and the northern and southern beaches vary greatly.

All the more reason to pay you a visit! I've yet to see those redwoods, and they sure do sound spectacular. Cali's diversity beckons me. What a beautiful state.
