Real difference was this was power out for something like a million people - and it was intentional. Power company shut it down as a preventative - to prevent getting sued again IF the wind knocked a line down and IF that started a fire...

Causation of fire is an interesting thought. Is the cause the downed power line, possibly an act of God, or could it be a failure of forest management, possibly a failure to act by mankind or womankind?

Hi guys...it's been quite a while. Anyone know what happened to Karen's fb page?
Some time ago, possibly a year ago, Karen decided to shut it down. I believe it was about being unable to get her woodville serviced.

Im betting that anyone who has the time could start a new page....
Good to see you @mlinky!

Long story....and its not over yet :). Yes, high winds and dry conditions “sparked” concern high fire danger. We lost 1000’s of homes due to similar weather condition in Oct 2017. More will be revealed as we go along. Certainly concerns with what motivated the decision (CEO and shareholders). Not real well thought out as to negative impact on citizens. We lost 2 due to medical equipment that was unable to be used by seniors. Nothing but respect for PG&E employees on my end.
Us River Rats in our neck of the woods are used to occasional loss of power and we know what to do (ie generators, prep) but for the rest of the state, this is not the norm. And 2-3 days with no power is a long time for them.....

And just in terms of financial loss, our County ( Sonoma) figures that lost revenue was 15 million. Thats not counting other losses......

I never had a VV Reo. Might be a real catch for someone if it’s in great shape. BTW, where on FB?

Just wanted to report back that my new REO was sent off to Eric for the 510 problem, and it was fixed and back in my possession. Thank you Eric! Thanks to the REO community also. Now, to get a bottom fed atty on this thing and "try it out". Not sure if there's any Your Mom's House listeners here who will get that last bit. Thanks all!

How's your vaca going? Having a relaxing time I hope! Mine is going well and so far no sunburn :)
Talk about “great minds” I was just wondering the same about your vacation!

Yes, we had 6 luxurious days without any responsibilities. Yes, we played tourist, read, relaxed, took gentle walks and generally we played sloths. Hahaha. Even without electricity for 3 days, we had a rejuvenating time.

That's awesome! I had a great time too. Some car troubles with the rental, but got it sorted out and had a good trip. Got nice and tan for a change :D Back to the grind tomorrow morning :)

So glad had a super adventure. So sorry for the late reply.

It has been quite a week with the fires to our east (luckily it is 70% contained at the moment). We were evacuated Sat evening and re-evacuated from there a few hours later. We have 4 dogs and 3 cats (4 that night as we were helping a friend). The first home we went to was/is our favorite animal rescue. When we had to leave that place a few hours later, we were able to help move their gang too. Once again, people’s kindness, lead us to a another friend’s home who was in Peru at the time helping animals there (Peace Corps).

We were able to return home in a couple days....no electricity for miles and miles and days. Luckily we have generators for our store and home. One week later, I was able to get my 1st good night sleep. I am so grateful for our 1st responders, our county employees and elected officials for doing what was necessary in the last 2 years so that we didn't have a repeat of the Tubbs Fire in 2017 (5k plus homes burned). This fire, the Kincaid, burned 170. My heart grieves for those people and for all of those who experienced loss in 2017 and re-experienced that fear/terror again.

And yes, in my “To Go Bag,” one of my most important things that i packed (next to dog meds of course) was 2 Reos, juice and lots of charged batteries.

I hope I will continue to be grateful for all the things I take for granted like electricity, a home, clear air, Reoville, relaxing and writing this check-in, etc etc etc......

Have a sweet weekend friends. Virtual hugs....

My heart goes out to you and everyone in your area, and all areas affected by this. We've had our own version of craziness here with the worst storm since 2011's Hurricane Irene. We've been without power, phone or internet for 3 days so far, but like you we have a generator so I'm able to continue working and we have heat and water. Nothing like what you've experienced. I can't imagine the feeling that would come of being evacuated...knowing that anything you don't take with you may be lost forever.

I'm so glad you're safe, and the animals. Indeed, a reminder for us all to be thankful for the things we take for granted.

You are loved  thanks for checking in and I hope you manage to have a restful weekend!
