I keep a pack of analogs because I start to feel panicy if I don't have them around, but I keep them in a place that is inconvenient to get to, under the spare tire in my trunk. I have to unscrew a bolt and lift out the tire to get to them.

If the urge gets intense, it is usually because I've gone too long without vaping. I stop what I am doing and relax and vape my favorite flavor for the same amount of time it took me to smoke a cigarette.

I'm ready in advance for situations I know cause an urge for analogs. Morning coffee, starting up the car, right after I get home from work. I have a plan. I make sure I vape while waiting for the coffee. I never go into a urge situation without vaping beforehand.

I've found the cartomizers with a throat hit that is too strong for me work really well for killing an analog urge quickly. A little throat burn discomfort kills the urge completely sometimes.

Please post what helps you avoid analogs!
 
First rule is dump the rules. It's going to be different for everyone. It sounds like you are making an effort to avoid analogs, and that's great. Just don't end up rebelling against yourself, and then beating yourself up for it. If you have an analog, then you have an analog. And that is that.

From a newbie to a newbie, I am only guess that you are a newbie, I could be wrong, if you have to ween yourself off, then do it that way. I order my first e-cig kit on 10/6. I got it that Friday 10/9. Vaped away, then my batteries wouldn't charge because my charger was faulty. The company had pretty good service, but I went another week before I got my stuff. And what did I do, I smoked.

Then I got my new stuff. I was still adjusting to vaping and was having huge urges for analogs, just like you. So, I smoked, but less. I was a pack a day smoker for 13 years. It wasn't going to end overnight. The first couple of days, I had 5. That's down from 20+. Then I raised the bar a little bit. Then next couple of days, I had 4. I was finally getting the hang of vaping. I was liking it alot. By the fifth or sixth day, I was down to 3 a day. By day 7 and 8, I was had a pack of cigarettes that had lasted me almost 5 days. Down to the last couple of analogs, I wasn't really diggin' the taste at all anymore. I would smoke about half, put it out, brush my teeth, and vape away. In the end, I had to force my self to smoke the last two cigarettes. I wanted to finish the pack and see what happened.

I haven't bought a pack since. Look at my counter. That's when I really quit. That's the day the desire died. It hasn't been long, but the desire is gone. I work with people who smoke, and have not ask for one cigarette. I stand out back with them. They smoke, I vape. It's now them asking me for a puff! Be true and honest with yourself. Decide what you want to do. If you want to do both, do both. It's your choice. Don't feel that you are betraying vapers by sneaking in an analog.

Weening worked for me. It didn't take long, but it worked. You may take longer, or shorter. It doesn't matter. Don't let anyone tell you different. You'll do what's right for you and only you!

Make sure you have spare parts. (atomizers, carts, juice, batteries, AN ALTERNATIVE CHARGING SYSTEM) That was my mistake. Now I'm stocked up. 3 batteries, 4 atty's, a USB passthough, Lotsa juice (just because I like a variety of flavor). Plus I ordered another USB passthrough for a 401, two atty's to fit, and some carts.(I wanted to give the 401 a try)

Seems like alot to buy, but look at the benefits and the overall cost savings. Not to mention the extra years you will have to be a slave to your work! :lol:

I will break even in no time.

Everyone is different and I agree with Jadeninja, you cannot beat yourself up if you have some mis-steps, you just got to try, try, again. I was one of the lucky ones, the day I got my first e-cig was the day I gave away all my left over analogues. It has been a great transition process for me. I am still vaping 36mg half the time and 24mg that other half. I would love to get down to 0mg but it is a process and I am fine just vaping away for now.

ShannonS it sounds like you are doing it right, you have a plan and it sounds like it is working. The one piece of advice I got was to avoid feeling H.A.L.T. (Hungry, Angry, Lazy, or Tired) because that is when you can be suggestable to smoking.

Everyone is different for sure. I think that sounds like a great plan Shannon! I was one of the lucky ones who just found that I didn't even want a cig after cutting down to 3-4 a day and vaping the rest of the time. They tasted nasty to me! I think some people will need to aggressively come up with a plan to finally cut out cigs altogether and you are wise to admit it and act on it!

Don't beat yourself up if you slip here and there in the beginning, but if your goal is to cut it out altogether then having a plan just makes good sense! ;)

I realize I'm abnormal (Lots of people who know me will agree!), but I did it completely by accident.

I had my first PV about a week and was really enjoying it. Just using it had drastically cut my smoking and I wasn't even trying. Late one night, I started out for a smoke and realized my pack was empty. I went to get another and couldn't find them. I looked everywhere they might've been, but came up empty.

Since I live out in the country and didn't want to go get more, I said, "To heck with it. I'll make do tonight and get some in the morning." In the morning, I discovered I didn't want to buy any. Three days later, while getting ready to drive down & visit my daughter, I found 2 packs. They were right where they were supposed to be.

One of those packs is still at home. The other is in the glove compartment of my truck. They are now my trophies. I don't even think about them.

The moral to this story is just let it go. Don't put pressure on yourself to quit. Just let it happen.

I found that I had to get rid of the cigarettes I had here. At first I put them on a high shelf in the house so I would have to climb to get them. Forget that.. I decided they had to get out of the house so I moved them to the glove compartment of the car, put the car in the garage, and closed the garage door. At about 10 pm I was going out in the dark telling myself I really needed a cigarette. That was enough. There was no reason for me to want that cigarette when the VK was meeting all my needs, throat hit, hand to mouth, smoke, everything... I decided right then and there that if I wanted to stop smoking I needed to not have even one cigarette around the property. Two weeks later a person I know stopped by and admitted after the fact that he light up just to see if I would want one. I didn't and didn't even like the smell, thank heavens.

I am a person that had to have all cigarettes gone or I would continue to smoke (2 to 4 packs a day). Like I said there was no reason to smoke the VK took care of all my needs. What I did was had Cowboy 18’s on the pass-through and Hilton 8 and 11's on 2 batts. When I got really stressed and needed that cigarette I sucked my brains out on the 18, a minute or two later I was over it. I maybe hit the 18, two or three times a day now but it is here if I really need it. Had a moment last night were I was getting really stressed did the 18 for a few minutes and went back to my 0. If I start to feel a headache coming on I grab the 18 and it goes away after a minute or two. So the 18 goes with me when I go out just to be on the safe side and sits in my purse for security the 0 or 8 is what I use while driving normally.

Today is 33 days smoke free for me, it would have been very easy for me to BS myself into thinking I needed to have that cigarette and another and another. I was a very weak person where cigarettes are concerned. Thank God I found this forum, V4L and all of you. I owe you all my life. I told a friend that I use this forum like AA. I read and read and relate it really has helped me get over the rough spots. Thank you all for all your help, advice and understanding, because of you I am no a non-smoker. Sorry for writting a book here.

I found that rules are the worst thing to do.

Rules put importance on things. When you do that, you procrastinate, or make a situation more stressful than it really is.

Tell yourself, "I dont NEED to do this" "I wont die if I do or dont do this". Once you realize that you dont HAVE to do ANYTHING, it all seems very easy because instead of a rule or big deal, it is now a choice! YOUR choice.

Just remember. You dont need it. It's not a big deal. Just dont think about it, relax, and get on with your day.

To be honest it was just about a week ago i posted about not being able to get off of analogs. things have changed now but heres how the sequence of events that ended up in me no longer smoking analogs.

In the beginning of Oct i got my V4L kit As a habit i ordered the kamel flavor thinking that being that I smoked camels would be my flavor of choice. I also ordered grape flavor and Steve tossed in a few other flavor sample bottles one of which was apple.

The first day or 2 I still smoked my usual 2 packs a day. then i dropped down to about 6 cigs and my vk then following day i went to 5 then to 4 and so on down to 1 cig and my vk a day then thats when things took what i thought to be a turn for the worse. I Started adding cigs a day and climbed back up from one then to 2 then to 3 and was back up to easily 6 or 7 cigs. I then had an accident happen and skyrocket back up to a full pack that day which was actually a turning point for the better. I dropped back down to around 6 cigs then stepped it back down from there. and havent smoked an analog in 5 days. although my vaping is slowing down to a more normal pace i will say the first few days of not smoking analogs I really gave my pass through a workout. It wasnt on kamel though it was actually of grapple a combination i discovered through a lack of a apple flavored cart to try the apple that Steve had sent as a bonus, so i put it in a grape cart seeing as i had a handful of them since during the month i ordered another VK ultimate kit, a bottle of grape, and some grape carts to share with other friends and family that had kept asking to try out my VK.

During the process to quitting analogs I didn't keep my pack inaccessible quite honestly I carried them with me in my pocket. My theory is this if i can decide to not smoke them in my pocket then i can will avoid them when others have them around me. Its easy to put a pack in a hard to reach location but when your around other smokers a cig is easily obtained by asking for one.

Things that work for one may or may not work for others but my one advice is don't focus on set rules if you make it a chore it could become less desirable to do. You built up to the amount of cigs you currently smoke over time it also takes time to quit painlessly and doesn't usually happen overnight.

I did the same exact thing when I quit analogs (before I started them again that is... a story for another thread). I kept a full, unopened pack of cigs in my car. I knew they were there so never had that anxiety that I was out or could not have a cig. It became a choice for me if I wanted one bad enough to go out to the car and dig them out - I never did. Ended up tossing them out after 12 months.

Now, I do not even have to do that because I find vaping even more satisfying than analogs ever where. I like the flavor and variety better, they do not stink, do not have the same health risks, and I can do it about everywhere =o)

The worst thing that can happen to you during the transition is equipment failure. Make you have extra batts, maybe a USB passthrough, extra atty's (if you have a 3 piece), extra cartomizers if you have a two piece, and juice. The only continued thing you need then is juice, so order extra. Variety is good, too. Then you can change it up and keep it interesting.

Check the counter. I swear under oath and on the Bible, my last analog is represented by the counter.

Shannon, it sounds like you have a great plan. It really just boils down to whatever works for you. As others have said, don't beat yourself up if you still smoke the occasional analog. You will know when you don't need them anymore.

I had my last analog on my 3rd day of vaping ... but that was just me. Others quit the same day they got their 1st e-cig. I did not hide my cigarettes or make them hard to get to. The vaping flavors were just so great that honestly I just forgot to smoke.

Good luck to you. No matter how long it takes to switch over 100%, just don't give up during the trial-and-error period.
