Welcome back to vaping.

I tried to quit with an RN 4081 in the fall and winter of 2008. It was largely an awful experience, as I got minuscule throat hits, annoying battery spans, and I never really felt satisfied.

Now I've got a Bartelby 3.7v that delivers fantastic throat hits, long-lasting cheap batteries, and has a USB port to make it a passthrough. I haven't smoked once since July and I've had very few moments of near-weakness.

Thats true. Other than vaping there isn't really a method for using nicotine long term outside of smoking. Patches and gums are meant for temporary use. I think it was Carl Sagan though who said absence of evidence is not evidence of absence. The possible link between nicotine and cardiovascular effects there of is on going. I sincerely hope we can someday prove conclusively that there is not a significant increase in risk by vaping. The irony of the statement that more smokers die from heart disease is that more people die from heart disease smoker or non. Eating healthy and exercising are the keys to prevention regardless of if you smoke or not. My statement in the OP wasn't to suggest your definitely forcing yourself into cardiac arrest as much as it was to illustrate you can not definitely say nicotine is harmless on its own out side of addiction. The evidence isn't there partly because of, as you pointed out, the fact that most nicotine studies are indeed smoking studies. We want to be through and have full disclosure to maintain credibility.

Yes! And the money is about right now! Of course you could still make this an expensive hobby and many do because they enjoy the technical and coniseur aspect of it, but more now than before you can vape on a budget which is wonderful! Can't wait till my gear gets here. Just thinking about vaping is making these analogs taste like garbage. I just read the year in revieiw, awesome post and we even had some overlap which was great because it assured me I wasn't just seeing things. XD

Edit: Correction. Obviously there are methods commonly used long term outside of smoking such as dip and chew, I should have said tobacco I suppose.
Very good points! I don't think people compare nicotine to caffeine to illustrate that it is harmless, only that it is very LOW risk, compared to the much higher risks from smoking? Both caffeine and nicotine use DO have health risks - especially heart conditions. Caffeine even has risks of addiction and overdose. You are so right that people definitely shouldn't mistake "low risk" as meaning "no risk." The hope is that because people are accepting of the low health risks of caffeine use, they will understand that the risks of smokeless nicotine use are very similar and should not be considered just as bad as the risks of getting nicotine through smoking. Some people just don't seem to understand that there are varying levels of risk and caffeine is a perfect example.

It's interesting that you chose to start smoking again rather than going directly back to vaping. So it was the perception that vaping is more expensive? I'm glad you came back to get caught up on the innovations and changes in the vaping world!

First let me say that all the things on this site are not documented, and if something is in your brain, this is the place to post it because the feedback is great. And the truth is WE DON"T KNOW. So on this site we are all learning. We don't know if e-cigs are harmful, but most of us that have converted to e-cigs believe they are safer. I have actually read a report, and I cannot remember where (I Will look for it) that touted the benefits of nicotine, and have seen blood vessel expansion that got more oxygen in the body.
Personally, I vape more than I smoked, and I am probably getting more nic than I used too. But my lungs feel better. I could not quit smoking until I started vaping. One day, I may have to try to give up vaping, but not today.
I do believe (sorry, no proof) that vaping is not as unhealthy as smoking, and I hope you will give it another try.
And yes, I think we will continually see modifications of the e-cig. Peoples tastes are so different, and what hey want will be invented. That is great, and it should produce better products. Additionally, the crappy makers will be put out of business. But even if the crappy makers get someone off cigarettes, that is a good thing to me. Personally, I am pretty simple and am content with a battery stick and a cartomizer. But I am glad that there are so many options to appeal to a wider variety of people.
I hop you give it a try again. Best wishes!
