I particularly like the closing paragraphs:

"Dr. Wang-Rodriguez admitted in the study that the cells in the lab were “not completely comparable to cells within a living person,” nor did the team attempt to “mimic the actual dose of vapor than an e-cigarette user would get.”

But that did not prevent her from reaching her own conclusion.

Professor Kevin Fenton, director of health and wellbeing at Public Health England, asserts that the best thing for smokers to do is to quit smoking completely. However, for smokers who are too addicted to attempt quitting “cold turkey,” e-cigarettes, while not entirely risk-free, remain a much better alternative to smoking. "E-cigarettes are not completely risk free but when compared to smoking, evidence shows they carry just a fraction of the harm," he said.

And like Siegel, Fenton asserts it is doing a disservice to the public to claim that traditional cigarettes and e-cigarettes share the same health risks, as that type of misinformation is likely to keep smokers from kicking their habit.

"The problem is people increasingly think [e-cigarettes] are at least as harmful and this may be keeping millions of smokers from quitting," he states.

E-cigarettes are believed to be a valuable tool in helping smokers to quit smoking. California Polytechnic State University professor of economics Michael Marlow asserts, “E-cigarettes have become the greatest source of ‘creative destruction’ that we’ve seen against the tobacco industry.” "

Alas, the correction won't be seen by even one percent of the audience that saw the original article (including on Science Daily).

The propaganda machine worked perfectly in this instance. The idea's out there, correcting it is ineffective, and it'll be used for years to come.

tobacco kills more than 480,000 people annually – more than AIDS, alcohol, car accidents, illegal drugs, murders and suicides combined.

Tobacco costs the U.S. approximately $170 billion in health care expenditures and more than $150 billion in lost productivity each year.Nice little bread and butter paychecks for Big Pharma each year ?

OMG! The Media Distorted what the good DR said? "Say it ain't so Joe". How can the Propaganda Machine complete the task of 'Poisoning the Waterhole' if the media can't report Honestly and Completely. Thankfully the 'Correction' was posted in a widely respected journal such as the New American. Now surely all will see that Your Govment and the Media will always stand for Truth,Justice, and the American Way.
Gotta Love This BS!;)

I don't doubt that for a second but be prepared for some insisting on "proof" LOL , there are some here that must have proof no matter how obvious something is .

Quoting this for truth.

The media hit-piece disservice has been done. The only thing left to do is garner more attention from potential new vapers until the next menacing exploding-popcorn-lung "study" is released and click bait articles are on every social media newsfeed in the world again. The cycle will just continue.

But, hey, I won't lose much sleep over it. I've already found the cure for smoking.

Honestly, I wonder which illnesses are are(Truly) Smoking Related and which are simply Assumed after 30-40yrs of Programmed indoctrination.

Simply put, yes I believe Cigarettes(not all tobacco) are Deadly to Some, I just have no true way of knowing and accepting the Numbers tossed around.

How much do investors pocket from Health insurance portfolios?
How many Dr.s drive around in 100K autos, with a second for the spouse?
How many insurance CEO's are now millionaires?

How much has society level changes in Foods/chemicals/Work related stress had an effect on ones ability to fight off health issues?

How does one argue the validity of one data stream and blindly accept the validity of another?o_O

I can say, I have seen more Non-smokers in Dr's offices, Hospitals and taking Time off work than Smokers. :D (obviously that could be construed as More people do not smoke)
How much does Health Care cost Total Annually? Who pays the bill?
My insurance, paid by me, has made tens of thousands more from me than I have ever had them pay out, and none smoking related.

I've heard--so this is anecdote only--that some doctors in some areas have trouble believing you if you get lung cancer and claim you never smoked. Warranted, those in low radon areas with no coal mining probably see far fewer cases of lung cancer that aren't smoking related, so it might be possible.

Around here, radon is common, and a common cause of lung (and other) cancers. I spent four years studying for many hours a day in a library that eventually measured at one hundred times the acceptable radon level.

If I get lung cancer, can you really guarantee it was because I smoked? Obviously not in an individual case, although the percentage risk is certainly proven in larger population samples.

Maybe so.

But a backlash - and resulting backpedalling - no matter how minor does send a message to the scientific commonutiy - or those who deem themselves part of it :

Be thou careful with piling it on, for there is a growing community ( that's us vapers :) ) that isn't playing along anymore in the mushroom game ...

There is a lot more money flowing than just those recipients, I'm sure.

I have come to enjoy comments like Herbs. Makes that little voice go off. <Hey, lets have a look> and off I go.
Amazing some of the things one can find on any given topic.

What is it they say? If you say it enough it becomes FACT: :glare:

Lies, Damned Lies & 400,000 Smoking-related Deaths: Cooking the Data in the Fascists' Anti-Smoking Crusade -- Sott.net

Some seem to insist people will demand Proof, while acting as if they themselves take everything stated by government, as FACT.

Are Cigarettes Bad - IMO - yes
Is Vaping Bad - IMO - less
Is political Agenda Bad - IMO - likely

Is a Political agenda government driven - IMO - not always.
