I noticed the same issue. Whatever is displaying on the screen is the mode its in. When you hold down both buttons, you will notice a little letter next to the number setting. NO2 there will be a "W" upper right. NO1 there will be a little "V" a little lower to the right of the number setting. Hope that helps.

this is for changing wattage to voltage or back to wattage. nothing to do with the other settings.

when you press the button it will change THEN show that setting on the screen if it is in no1 when you press the button you should see no2 if it is in no 2 you will see no1 on the screen. once its set it doesnt need changing anymore.

Hold down the little button for approximately 10 seconds and it should read NO2. If you hold it down and it shows NO1, you need to do it again to show NO2. Once there, leave it alone.

Now you both have confused me! LOL Isn't what you both just said, opposite...or am I reading it wrong??

Lilmrsyeti, when you hold down the right button for a few seconds it will give you the ohms reading on the carto (or whatever you have connected). If you hold down the left button it will give you the voltage remaining on the battery. If you hold down both it will change between volts and watts. If you hold either button down for more than 10 seconds it will switch between NO1 and NO2. Whatever is on the screen is the mode it's in.

in other words, it is impossible to see what mode it is in (without changing it)

you can only see the mode you changed it to.

That is correct. It's a bit of a pain, but normally that's a setting you're not going to monkey with once it's changed.

That setting will also be remembered when you swap out the batteries. It's a pity it's the ONLY setting that's remembered, but at least you don't have to change that setting, too, when you do battery swaps.

Exactly. If you hold down the button and see NO1, that means you WERE in NO2, now you are in NO1. If you see NO2 then you WERE in NO1, now in NO2.

I have occasionally had the vamo switch to NO1 from a button being pressed in my purse. The first couple of times confused me because all of the sudden everything was tasting hot and burned. Now I know if it seems too hot I need to check what mode it is in.

I didn't even know about this! So I've now changed mine to No2. Do I still need to mess with the volts/watts? I'm quite new to all this variable business. Thanks in advance :)

You can set it for volts or watts. Whichever you want. Then you do need to select an appropriate voltage or wattage for your juice and preferences. The two different modes are just different ways the power is calculated and averaged to control the heat of the coil. NO2 seems to be more accurate, which I guess is why the changed to that only on the V3.

When you swap out the batts wattage setting is also remembered.
