oh man that looks yummy!! But their spumoni ice cream is vanilla chocolate and pistachio?? Posed to be cherry chocolate and pistachio! I know it can be any 3 really, but it should be cherry not vanilla!

I don't think Deb has hit me yet, but she did loan her pan to Lannie once. The head bump has finally receded. :)

yeah, dunno if we can get the bottled roux here or not. Maybe, been a long time since I've been to the store much. Have heard it's not bad, but yeah I'm sure nowhere near as good as doin it yourself.
Actually its plain ol roux, flour fried in oil. I would say kinda hard to mess up but anyone who has ever made a roux has burnt a roux lol

That is to me the hardest part of cooking a gumbo or even a good home made stew. The roux is always a major PITA and I will cheat at times and use the bottled roux but it has to be a decent known brand to me like Richards or Zatarans. Now powder roux.....never! Thats just nasty to me.

I have NEVER burned a roux, and let's see, I've been doing it for 43 years now. :p I usually make mine with butter, however, I have used oil on occasion. I don't typically make mine as dark as that one in the jar, though, so maybe that's why. I just get it golden, and then add the liquid and whisk, whisk, whisk. :)

I get their corned beef or pastrami to go by the pound sometimes. Their Reubens aren't bad either.Jay :headbang:

Yup it's pretty good. I like their Gumbo as well.

lol lighter roux's are good for lots of things.......with those dark coffee/chocolate roux's, there is a super fine line between perfect, and burnt! But man, no better flavor than in those dark roux's!

Thanks Chop, I'll try one of those if we have em and see what I think. I figgered preservatives would mess em up.

I haven't been "Home" since I moved here 5 years ago but believe me Spumoni Gardens will be my first stop! Family and Friends be damned!!:lol:

Looks beautiful food, my kinda place..I'm flying over there in April, shame I'm not landing there though, hmmm, may have to extended my trip.

Morning...Afternoon here, yes, Somerset, England, I live on a cliff away from everyone lol, I love it..the postman, not so much lol. It's beautiful here but the winter months are a nightmare, or at least they can be with high winds and snow.

So after a few days of vaping on the ceramic coils on the Super tank, which are actually OK but I'm hoping these bad boys are going to be a lot better..
I'll let you all know.....
