Subohming vs low wattage, got me thinking. What would you reccomend to a newbie?

When I was using the ego batteries and evods, I'd have a small case with 4 batteries and 2 cables with a small usb hub, a bottle of juice and 2 tanks. That lasted me all day. Now, my mod and subtank take up more room in my pocket but end up taking up less room overall. I only need the mod and tank for the entire day, sometimes well into the second.

it makes me wonder how people come to their desired vaping setups, if they came by them by trying to find something similar to smoking, or just fell into something completely new that they enjoy even more.

when I think of how I ended up at subohming on mechs, from starting on egos/30-40w devices. I believe it has to do with me chasing that way i used to smoke, 2-4second drags on newports. For those oyou that subohm or low watt vape, what type of cigarettes did you use to smoke before you switched? this could be helpful information for people reccomending setups to those who want to make the switch to vaping.

I think for me, it's mainly psychological. I've smoked periodically since college, which was ages and ages ago, but never more than a pack or so every few days. I could leave it for days if I needed to and have never felt the physical signs of addiction and withdrawal. Still, I have two jobs and a lot of stress, and there have been those times when I just really wanted to smoke as a means to relax. Vaping lets me do that without all the added negatives of smoking. It's not a perfect solution but it works for me, for now.

I was in a similar position PansyRabbit. I didn't smoke a whole lot, but I could easily go from smoking 5 or so cigarettes a day to smoking a half a pack in a few minutes if I'm out of whack. I think that is why I continued to want cigarettes even though I had no physical symptoms nor did I like the way they smelled or tasted. It was easy for me to not buy cigarettes when I thought of the last one I had, but my issues made me wish I did and that they weren't so dangerous for me lol.

I am a subohmer, but not by far. I occasionally vape a .2 ohm build, but it's not that common. My all day vape is a .7 oh coil at around 20 watts, or a 1.2 ohm coil at 14 watts. Started with the egos and stardusts, but like you, the airflow was the major factor. Trying different atomizers until I got my desired airflow level. To me, the Fogger V4 has the perfect airflow It's about equivalent to the subtank on the two hole setting.

which comes to my second question, I know there is this whole thing of 'cloud chasers' and 'tootle puffers', but what kept you on vaping and didnt make you relapse? For the cloud chasers, was it the visual aspect? The hobby of vaping, the want to get more and bigger visuals out of clouds, or more throat hit and similarity to smoking with clouds just as a side effect?

I totally quit using the ego/stardusts. What kept me vaping.. well, there was this transition period that I both smoked and vaped. I would try vaping unti I just HAD to have a cigarette. then I went outside and smoked. I never thought of vaping as a complete replacement for smoking, but as a supplement. the more I vaped, the less I had to have "the real thing". the last few cigarettes, I was like "wow, how long can I go without a real cigarette".. first it was almost a day, then it was two.. then three.... IT's going on two years since the last challenge. There is one time, three months after taking a cigarette I was curious... I lit up a cigarette, and tried to smoke it.. it tasted horrible... I said nope, put it out, and never touched another one since. I am guessing it was the taste. IT was something other than smoke I was inhaling. It was the change. Finding a good taste to start off with is critical. It has to be something you like tasting.

i think thats what makes it hard. People going from cigarettes to vaping, the taste has to matter, and its hard when you get so used to that chemically tobacco taste. I started off with menthol and tobacco flavors, which tasted nothing like it, I think thats where I mostly went wrong. Kept going to try and find tobacco flavors similar to smoking, but when I started trying the fruit flavors like peach and strawberry, it was more pleasant as time went on and I stopped looking for tobacco flavors (because it was basically impossible to imitate burning chemicals in a cigarette). Much like you the last time I tried to go back to a cigarette, I was so far gone into vaping that when i picked the cigarette up and smoked it, it made me gag and wonder how I ever got 'used' to smoking that terrible chemical taste.

I quit smoking a long time ago with a Vamo my wife gave me. Then I got a ProVari and used and abused it for a long time and at this point I was using IBTanked while my wife had a Kayfun and a RDA and a few mech mods. I loved the IBTanked but after awhile simply due to costs being cheaper for kanthal then cartos I decided to build the Kayfun. After that I think the first RDA I got was a Patriot and then I got a DNA20 cause I did not like mech mods. Now I use DNA40 devices and drippers almost exclusively. I run an unregulated box or a Sig 150 here and there.

My two closest frirnds have been following my journey pretty closely and today we have been talking about there next steps.

After talking them into iStick 30's and Nautilus's awhile back from Ego's one has been doing great and the other keeps going back to cigarettes. The one who's doing great had gone as far as a Nautilus would take him abit back.

A few weeks ago I built them both Orchids. The guy who was smoking is now vaping full time and the other is finally happy.

BTW we were all heavy long time smokers.

But they are running into the same problem I had. That 25-30 watt range gives a great vape but battery life becomes a real problem. A single 18650 only lasts a short while and the iStick doesn't allow swapping and we cannot charge at work.

So they are both shopping for new mods with twin batteries or at least swap able.

The fourth member of our little group is getting nearer making "the change".

I'm moving closer to nothing under 50w and nothing with built in batteries. And nothing smaller then 18650's.

For a tank I wonder about the Subtank. I have never used one. But at 1.2Ω to start and a rebuildable it maybe one stop shopping. I been moving Orchids and Taifuns but maybe I need to try a ST. They also have TC so could it be the perfect tank?? I honestly don't have the slightest idea.

But like the one buddy told me last week, "I don't know how far into this rabbit hole we are going but from now on order two of what ever you try cause I end up wanting it anyway."
