So would it be reasonable that I saw a sign saying 8,000 ft cuz I am pretty sure that's what I recall seeing
Yup.

Wanna have some fun? Ask all the Californians you know if they've ever been there. I bet ya 90+% don't even know there is such a thing. I doubt there is a national park or national forest in the 11 western states that I haven't been in. I used to be an insatiable explorer. I once dated a gurl native to Portland, Orygun who had never ever been to Mt. Hood, which you can see from there (it's ONLY 60 miles fer ChriSake); I cannot understand those types. I gotta know what's over every hill and around every corner... (Now, from Paint Your Wagon, we all sing I was born under a wanderin' star)

I am a California native born & raised! I have been from the border in the south to into Washington in the north & most points in between! So according to you I must be a 10%'er! LOL!:headbang:

I think you are. I don't know how many people in L.A. I talked to who had never even been out of their county. Maybe it is something more common to big city folks (as opposed to small towns or country folk), but it just seems so many don't ever go anywhere (except the local bar or the beach), and if they won't explore (like you did), how can they know what's around them? Yeah, right, like they paid attention to geography class in school (if they even took it).

But, using my previous post example: Without using a search engine, can you tell us how to get to the Sequoia National Forest from where you live? :D Have you been there? If not, why not?

Unfortunately in my wanderings with my wife & my mother we have not! But I have been to the Redwoods and many other State & National parks that off the top of my head I couldn't tell you how to get there from here!

But you're a good boy anyway because at least you knew it existed. And kudos for visiting all the places you have gone to. So few people (NOT just Californians) in this whole country visit anywhere outside their own neighborhoods. And, to me, even more sadly, those who do travel rarely go to anyplace they cannot see from the interstate highways (I hate freeways!). Route 66 died ages go, but it (and numerous other two-lane back roads) was one of the best ways to actually see your country. Today, people watch "reality "TV shows (which rarely have any true reality in them) or surf Facebook and they think they know all about America. Frog snot!

I still wanna travel a good chunk of that sometime. Always been on my bucket list. I too am a wanderlust, just never got to do a whole lot of travel, but I did whenever I could. Drove to MO to see my son graduate basic training.......didn't come home for 5 weeks! Didn't wanna come home then, but had to get back to being an adult. I really only saw friends. For me just seeing things are that great if you're seeing them alone

On the DVD for the movie Cars, in the how/why they did it extras, they take a trip down 66 and point out all the places in several states that everyone is missing today due to those darn interstates. It made me sniffle.

I'd much rather share my explorations with an eager companion, but if I had to go alone, I still went because something inside me said I had to... or I'd be missing something very very important in life. It is a huge world and no one lives long enough to see it all... but I'd love to be able to stand at Machu Pichu and imagine the Incas who lived and worked there... The Plains of Nazca, the Amazon, Serengeti, the... (insert endless list here).

Jup.....have that DVD and that's one of my fav parts! I traveled around for 5 weeks by myself, but saw countryside more than anything. At times took backroads instead of the hwy

The only time I use a freeway is if I am on a tight schedule (e.g., need to be in Omaha tomorrow morning). Otherwise, it's always the two-lane back roads for me. And often, I used to be found on dirt roads just to find out where they went. Amazing the things you can find that way... in Arizona I managed to get from just outside Flagstaff all the way to Grand Canyon via dirt roads. Found an old stage coach stop the locals didn't even know was there. And, of course, the camera (NOT a friggin' cell phone camera) is always with me to document those places.

@Debadoo

I was waiting till you came around before I posted the Dolphin pics. These were taken off of Sanibel Island. Like I said not the best due to cell camera, steering and them being a little shy yesterday but here ya go! Oh and please remind me when you get close to getting down here and will try my best to meet up with you guys!

When I use to work offshore I loved watching the dolphins out there. I seen schools of 50 or more swimming around and the baby dolphins playing and jumping over their moms. Cool as can be watching them and I spent hours leaning against a hand rail watching them from an oil platform.

I wanna see their faces ....I know, camera and steering and naughty Dolphins.

I seen two dolphins swimming together belly to belly a few times and I am pretty sure they was being very naughty. I even yelled at them once to get a room! :D

I been in a lot of states on a Harley and I always try to avoid interstates when I am on a run. I like the two lanes where you can see the real America country! Also rode as much of Route 66 as I could thru New Mexico :D Also rode the trail of the ancients thru Colorado/New Mexico/Utah.

I love the innerstate highways. I've seen alot but mostly back and forth between NY and Seattle due to my family mostly living there but most have moved back to NY so not so much any more.

Always on my bike when younger and car these days. I love distance driving. 24 hours door to door to Florida and I liked to do it in one shot.

One source of great pride of mine is I never, and by never I mean NEVER EVER carried a camera. I carry every image in my head. My wife says someday I will forget those trips to which I reply when I don't remember them it won't matter anymore. Now I'm married to a professional photographer and she takes 90000 pictures of every single thing.

For tank leaking that time is coming for me. Tempture changes do me in. I work in the cold so in Winter me and my tanks are always in the cold so zero problems. But soon me and my tanks will be going from very cold to very hot in a short time and I do get some leaks, some times very bad leaks.

Currently using one of those Atom Vapes gold clapton coils. At .3 its a little sassy for me but must say it vapes very well.

My wife bought a Mini Volt and didn't care for it so I kinda adopted it. You wouldn't think a guy who drives a RX200 would enjoy a MV but I kinda like it

I'm a Cancer. But some say I was born on the cusp. Not a Leo at all. More quiet and laid back until attacked then the claws come out!:D

Hello You!
I won a 150 Movkin Disguiser mod on that other board who shall not be named.

Nice! Congrats!

It's amazing how many we see when we take the boat out. Either in the Caloosahatchee River or the Gulf of Mexico. I love when they follow as and play in the wake of the boat. It really is cool seeing them so close!
