You're into some heavy hitters there..I only have just gotten into Jazz because todays music really blows that bad. But yeah the older stuff is nice but I have to really be in the mood for jazz.
It's hard being into music that will never see a new album :(. But I still turn up new stuff from the 70s that I like. I should have added The Who and Pink Floyd to my top rock favs list. And Led Zep of course.

I have about 45 albums put out by Billy Cobham, that span 40 years, more or less. Those are just the albums featuring him, not the endless albums out there where he played as sideman, and I collect those too. It's interesting to listen to how he's evolved with the times. Some die hard 70s BC people are still hung on Spectrum and think his modern stuff is bad, but I like it (the Amazon reviews of his albums are interesting in that regard)

ROFL! I saw Cheap Trick at a local club, sometime in the early 80s... and I sat right on one of the speakers. For about 3 days, everything that was said to me was met with HUH?!?

I have to draw the line at B*tches Brew and Ascension just can't get into them...

But I can listen to Monk and Baker all day long, as well and Evans and Brubeck. :2cool:

I like B*tches Brew but I don't listen to it very often. If you don't like that, that excludes a lot of Miles's (edit: later) stuff. But you might like Flamenco Sketches. You *do* have Kind of Blue, right?

I have a very tiny collection of Davis
Kind of Blue
Round About Midnight
Birth of the Cool
TuTu
B*tches Brew 40th Anivesary

ETA: I have heard On The Corner as well, but it is another that I didn't really care for too much.

Oh man... I just discovered that the first vape shop I ever went to, Steam Cigs, is going out of business. :( I was going to call them and see if they had titanium wire, since they're a real "cloud chaser" hangout, but today is their last day, so I'm sure they wouldn't have stocked any "new tech" stuff. wahhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!

Yep,..I saw her playing that sax with Pink Floyd on "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" and thought DAYUM!!! :p

Perfect, she rocks.

I damn near gave up on anything resembling 70's music that was new until I heard a bit of Joe Bonamassa.
Pretty good if you were into classic rock blues.

Yeah Joe Bonamassa is good how about Colin James? Love him.

When I read the first Rolling Stone interview of Iommi,..I was blown away at the fact that he had cut some of the finger tips off on his left hand in a work accident ,..and melted plastic onto the nubs so he could play cords again! Wowzers that's quite amazing that he had to re-learn how to play and ended up sounding way better than he did in the first place.

You mean his right hand! Tonys left handed, its his fretting hand thats missing fingertips on his middle and ring fingers. His pinky strength is INSANE because of it, those trills he does on the Supernaut solo are so out there.

Funny thing about that. Black Sabbath is the god fathers of heavy metal but that is because of what happened to Tony Iommi fingers tips getting cut off. Back then it was really one style of guitar strings for all guitars. Because of his finger tips getting cut off he had to improvise and used banjo strings and drop tuning. This created a heavy guitar sound. Then he started plugging his guitar into the bass jack on the amp and created the sound that inspired generations of guitar players.

Nah he just used the treble inputs, you can see it in live vids. Laney Supergroups are basically a 'darker' version of a Marshall Superlead, with a little more gain than a Marshall. He ran the EQ with the treble and mid on 10 and no bass at all. He boosted it with a Rangemaster treble booster at full blast, that was modified by a friend of his but he has no clue what was actually done to the inside of it. Around the time Dio joined, someone actually threw it away. I wish I could get ahold of a Supergroup but they are pretty close to impossible to come by in the US, its easier to find old Hiwatts even. A friend of mine that lives in the UK has a whole wall of Supergroups and Klipps go figure. Only Laney Ive ever had the opportunity to own was an 80s AOR. Was just a hot rodded version of a Marshall JCM800 so I sold it since I already have a JCM800 hehe.

And now I gotta go change out my battery so I can go whomp and listen to some Sabbath!

Your right, Tony used the Laney Supergroups head and the Rangemaster Treble booster with the treble maxed, but he plugged into the laney on the bass side. Remember Sabbath had that deep dark sound but it wasnt really distorted. Tonys sound came from a combination of things but mainly the strings hurt his fingers after he cut the tips off so he used light banjo strings with drop tuning. If it wasnt for him cutting his finger tips off, he would of never developed the classic Sabbath sound which started true metal. There was rock and roll back then, look at Zeppelin. But Metal came from Sabbath.

I got my versary present today...

myevic-vt.jpg

However, I did not yet get the titanium wire, and I quickly determined that that 30w blast it gives on the first hit even in vw mode (it's set to 9w which is what I like for that atty!) is not a good idea for the Achilles. :D Hopefully the wire will get here Monday.
