I got my versary present today...

myevic-vt.jpg

However, I did not yet get the titanium wire, and I quickly determined that that 30w blast it gives on the first hit even in vw mode (it's set to 9w which is what I like for that atty!) is not a good idea for the Achilles. :D Hopefully the wire will get here Monday.

Yes, that initial test fire isn't ideal for lower power builds (the up side is out only does it the once)

I got some knuckle drip tips like that today in my vapemail and havent had a hot splatter since. Even was able to turn the heat up some. Downside is I keep getting the juice condensation out of the tip on the inhale.

Your right, Tony used the Laney Supergroups head and the Rangemaster Treble booster with the treble maxed, but he plugged into the laney on the bass side. Remember Sabbath had that deep dark sound but it wasnt really distorted. Tonys sound came from a combination of things but mainly the strings hurt his fingers after he cut the tips off so he used light banjo strings with drop tuning. If it wasnt for him cutting his finger tips off, he would of never developed the classic Sabbath sound which started true metal. There was rock and roll back then, look at Zeppelin. But Metal came from Sabbath.

Yeah the drop tuning showed up on Master of Reality, Vol 4, and Sabbath Bloody Sabbath. I remember the first time I heard Under The Sun when I was like 4 and doom metal was born! It was all over after that for me.
The bass channels of the Supergroup arent 'dark', in fact its a straight through input into the preamp tubes. The treble inputs just have a capacitor right after the input to brighten it up and make it a little louder. Technically the bass inputs are 'normal', where the treble ones basically have the treble cranked up before it even hits that first ECC83. Same with most of those old British amps (to a certain extent they were all borrowing ideas from one another), and the old Fender amps of the 60s. Marshall and Hiwatt actually labeled their channels more 'properly' as those are labeled Bright and Normal. On the Klipp, Laney actually changed it so it was switched on or off instead of using two sets of inputs. The JCM800 has it too on the Hi input but the difference between the Hi and Lo is more than just a capacitor there. Alot of old Marshalls you find now were modified by removing the 'bright cap' and it totally defeats the purpose of having the two different channels. I was watching the Live In Paris 1970 video for the millionth time this morning but its hard to tell where he plugged in at. Him and Geezer both only have one actual Supergroup up there, the rest of the heads are just slave amps. The footage is so grainy that when you actually get a shot of it, the faceplates too blurry.

I always thought it was funny when people argued between Blue Cheer and Black Sabbath being the godfathers of heavy metal. Blue Cheer was rad but alot of their stuff was just loud blues and psychedelic stoner stuff. We got the evil tritone from Sabbath in the first three notes of the very first album, they definitely get my vote. Birmingham's churned out ALOT of rad music since the 60s. Judas Priest, Napalm Death, Godflesh, Head Of David, just to name a few of the big ones..

On a side note... Doesn't it feel great in your hand?
Sent with one hand, the other is busy vaping.

Yes, I quite like it, though it's certainly a lot heavier even than the CF4, which I thought was pretty heavy when I first got it. I'll get used to it.

One thing I REALLY like is the little manual; the English is actually English, grammatical and spelled correctly -- way to go, Joyetech! :thumb:

Weird, I don't get any condensation out of it -- but it sure relieves my lips of those hot spats! I always get those with RDAs, though hardly ever with a Kayfun. But... I hate to say it, I really do, but I think my Achilles have overtaken the Kayfun completely as my preferred vape. I got a couple of my kayfuns wicked and filled, to get them broken in before going up to my folks for the monthly housekeeping tomorrow, and I gotta say, that "spluttering" thing is really getting old, even though I barely noticed it until I got used to the Achilles, which never do that, even when the wick is brand new -- it tastes like the cotton for a few hits, but never ever does the spluttering crap. Maybe it's because the Achilles doesn't depend on the "vacuum" thing.

I've found a blue knucklehead that I think will match the Evic perfectly -- Colored Knucklehead Drip Tip - PBDragon LLC -- but, somewhere, I've seen a knucklehead with a white bowl and blue tip, but I can't seem to find it now.

Nah, anything straight and I still get the hot spats. I've got one that's hook-shaped, but it's made of some kind of plastic that has a really bad taste to me. So I guess I'll stick with the knuckleheads.

Andria
I just ordered #5 in that pic to try it out. With it long and then goes slender maybe it will prevent the hot splatters %90 of the time

What's the story with that mandatory 30W blast? Is that the first time the mod is ever used, or each time it's turned on or....

Well, the first time you hit the fire button, in vw mode, and maybe after it's been sitting for a few minutes too... I got that 30w blast both times, the taste of hot metal, ick -- the airflow in that Achilles is MUCH too tight for that kinda power. So I went back to my CF4, and will wait on the titanium wire when it gets here, to use the Evic-VT.

It does it on a new coil in wattage mode..official explanation is the mod is testing for tc ability of the coil. For those using sub ohm tanks and the like, it's not even really noticeable.

I sort of fancy this one....Long enough to prevent spitting and the angle would help that also...I just need to be careful when having drinks(adult)...may lose an eyeView attachment 473104

Yeah the angle seems to be the crucial thing; the hot spats go straight up, but so far I've never known them to curve around and hit me in the mouth. :D That hook shaped one I have worked well for that too, but I can't take the taste of it. Maybe a stainless hook shape... I've gotten over my initial dislike of metal tips, as long as they're pretty large and don't get too hot. They're also good for the RDAs that don't like to be tipped or they leak; you can hold the mod straight without tipping it at all.

Indeed...This one is SS and long enough for reducing heat I would imagine...But SS is supposed to be unflavored:D

How does it decide when it has a new coil?

It seems ridiculous for it to do that when the coil is way higher resistance than the 1 ohm for TC; the coil I'm using right now is 1.7 ohms, so not even close. Maybe they'll upgrade the software on the chip at some point, to have it check the resistance before trying that 30w blast; it would make it a lot more usable in vw mode.

That's one reason I like stainless; I've had a love/hate relationship with a lot of plastics, because of their taste and smell -- the little soft nose-pieces on eyeglasses, some of them smell like bugspray! ICK!
