That's interesting... that it retains previous settings in vw mode -- I noticed that when I was fiddling with it earlier, when it went to vw mode, it was still set at 9w from when I tried it the other day.

I have it at 380F now, and that seems pretty close to my other one; not terribly warm in this Achilles with knucklehead driptip, but solid TH, as the Achilles does so well.

Since I have the resistance locked, what exactly could make it go high enough to drop out of TC mode? I'm kinda fumbling in the dark both with TC and this particular mod; all of it is completely new -- it's like when I first got my vv3 and T3S... well maybe not quite that bad; I went to the vv3/T3S straight from the eRoll.

In my experience with the vt, only ones thing causes it to drop out of tc.... Something off with the coil. If I have a build that drops out of tc I scrap it and build another one. I haven't had a Ti coil do this yet, but I've had a few ni coils expand when firing and touch a post, or coil touch a leg, messing up the ohms, kicking it out of tc. I don't think ti expands as much, so you may never experience that

Yeah, it's not that I have anything against those "metallic origami" coils I mentioned the other night, but my asthma prevents me from vaping in such a way that massive vapor is produced (and I always use the MtL technique, both because of my asthma, and that's the way I smoked). This is definitely workable for tootling, because I really can't vape in any other way. The 340F setting I started out with, is extremely mild, even with this Achilles that has such tremendous TH.

I've made my way up to 390F, and it's very good, and sub-ohm coil notwithstanding, definitely falls into the tootling category.

Yes, it is. The vape band for controlling airflow is kind of dumb and detracts from its looks. I like it though.

Andria, yes, 6 wraps on 3/32" with 28g ti will give you around 0.42 ohm, which is my sweet spot. Make sure you lock in the resistance while the atty and mod are at room temps or it can affect your resistance.

The reason you want to lock the resistance setting in the Evic is because as the coil heats up and is used the resistance will change. Setting it as locked will make the mod ignore this resistance change and use the initial resistance reading at all times instead of using the live reading. I dont know how much variance titanium wire will change with heat but I have seen with ni200 wire the resistance would as much as tripple with heat and give an extreme hot sputtering vape if its not locked.
I have by accident before hit the two buttons on my IPV4 after vaping it. I wanted to go into the setup mode and because of a brain fart did it wrong. It was locked at .05 but when I hit those two buttons it reset to .17 ohms. I gave it a vape and wow, extremely hot and sputtering. I had to let it cool down to room temp and reset it at .05 and then it was back to vaping as normal. If you dont lock the resistance on the Evic then everytime you hit the fire button it will use that resistance as the base line and not give true temp control. Why Evic did that I dont know.

Realize it's a sub-ohm coil while at room temperature, once it's fired the resistance increases. That's why we need to use Ni or Ti, when they get hot the resistance increases, kanthral it doesn't.

Not sure what the actual numbers are but your 0.5Ω Ti room temp coil may actually be closer to 1.5Ω when it gets to 390 F. When it gets to your set temperature the mod drops the wattage applied so there's just enough to maintain the temperature.

The beauty of TC is if your wick drys out too much or you tootle puff and the air isn't cooling the coil the mod will drop the wattage as low as is necessary to maintain the set temperature. I tried firing a totally dry coil to see if the rayon would not scorch as advertised. It did work, and I noticed the wattage would drop to one watt to accomplish the magic.

It's great, just a bit intimidating at first, though not so much the device itself -- I think I should NEVER have ventured into that titanium wire safety thread, because as I said, they're not even speaking English in there, but some math-geek language that I couldn't understand if I lived to be 1000; that kind of stuff is just BOUND to give me an anxiety attack. They really oughta post a warning: "Caution: extreme math -- innumerates beware!"

I've turned it down a bit this morning, since I like a milder vape in the morning. Considering what a short time I used it last night, I was surprised when I checked the battery icon and found it 50% depleted? Weird. Is there any way with this thing to get the actual voltage figure of remaining battery? Like with the CF4, pressing the 2 sml btns at once.

I have a nickel allergy. I'm not super sensitive, if I wear a normal belt it takes a couple of weeks for a rash to develop. It's not like poison ivy . And I don't think my jeans rivets give me a rash (the other common source), although my older jeans have all been coated with nail polish (that wears off). And from what I've read here anecdotally, there apparently isn't enough nickel in the vape to cause a problem. Still, I'm not excited about experimenting with that. So that leaves Ti. And the pricing I've seen on it (up to a dollar a foot???) makes factory coils look reasonable.

Yeah I may replace the coil today, see if I can get it closer to the .4 figure.

I read the part in the manual about the resistance lock, and also listening-up to all the comments here; I didn't lock the thing till I had already hit it a few times, so who knows, it may not have locked correctly, which is another reason for maybe re-doing the coil. At least now I know how soft and malleable the wire is, compared to kanthal, it's actually a good bit easier to get it wrapped around the mounting screws than the kanthal is.

Yeah I really just dropped into that thread to find out what kind of titanium wire to get, and to find out if there were any hazards I should know about. Those people have entirely too much time on their hands, to be spouting all that math! I like ARITHMETIC!

I believe I'm also sensitive to nickel; everytime I wear metal costume jewelry or even 10k gold, wherever that metal touches my skin turns black -- I even got that from some eyeglasses frames back in the 70s when anyone in glasses looked like a Pacer. And forget earrings that don't have either 14k or stainless posts; it makes the little pierce-holes looks like giant blackheads! And considering my EXTREME!!! emetophobia, I really don't want to take the chance - even 5 mins of nausea is 5 mins too long. Maybe 5 and a half.

I got my titanium from Unkamen -- 28ga, 40ft, $9.95 -- not too bad, roughly twice the price of kanthal. Given that we want very low resistance with these coils, I may get some 26ga at some point.

@KattMamma with drippers coil placement in regards to airflow is incredibly important. Make sure the coil is directly in line with the air flow, possibly even raise it so the air comes from beneath the coil, and open the airflow all the way. Also, 0.7 sounds pretty high for 24g, is it a very large coil?

The coil is in line with airflow. I think it's high enough but I'll look again.

As far as size, I have so little experience with coils I wouldn't know a large one from a small one. I think it's about the size of a stock .5 coil for the Kanger Subtank, maybe a tad bigger.

Chatty Cathys. That's funny - my mom's younger sister had a Chatty Cathy doll and that's how my mom picked my name. She never fully explained why she used a K instead of a C though. And she may have cursed me with the name. I still have my grade school report cards, and many of them have comments like "Kathy is a very good student, but she likes to talk too much."

You may be more sensitive than I am. I just get welts that get very nasty after a week or two if I don't suck it up and pay $40 for a cheap (but supposedly nickel-free) belt. Do you get rashes from belt buckles or jeans rivets? I'm not sure about sunglasses and eyeglasses because I usually wear contacts. And no piercings. Piercings could get a lot nastier since belt buckles don't usually sit on skin all the time.

Anyway, back on topic... your Ti wire is $0.25/foot, where I'm used to paying about $0.06 for Kanthal but I could live with that price. I'll make it up in less cotton

Anyone have other recommendations for Ti gauge for a single starter setup? At 10 bucks I'd like to buy once and live with it if possible.

Just for reference, a 3mm Kuro coiler pin fits easily inside of the stock 0.5 ohm RBA deck coil. I happened to check that the other day since I still have that on one of my STMs.

Haven't noticed any problems with jeans rivets, though it's been many years since I would willingly wear them (the middle-aged lady's belly isn't very comfy in pants that don't "give"!). But I don't recall any problems... and I've never been much of a belt wearer, unless it was something "decorative" for some outfit. But I recall my HS class ring... 10k gold... everytime I took it off, a black ring all around my finger. And those glasses... I looked like a raccoon and didn't even realize it! After that I went to smaller frames that didn't rub against my face.
