Typically, at least here, the only place you are likely to find the brown recluse is in the wood pile (I always wear gloves when getting firewood and
throw it in the wheelbarrow rather than setting it gently - this will dislodge them) and the black widows prefer dark fairly moist areas (under rocks, at the base of hedges, etc) , which sometimes can be the pantry shelves of the porch, but they are fairly rare to be in the house at all.
Oops... I didn't tell you about the second rattler I killed - stepped on his head, then whipped out the leatherman and cut it off. The Guineas didn't eat him either - stupid birds! The two bull snakes (harmless pests) don't count.
