Just outside my comfort zone.
Hi WNCmotard, instead of beating up on the ZAP, sell it to me and you won't have to worry about it any more. And I am serious, I WILL buy it at the same as you paid for it.

Drew, I would agree with you. I have other genesis devices that will put my ZAP to shame in both the amount of vapor, and the amount of time it takes to make that amount of vapor. I've tried both the pre-made Zen wicks, and removed the zensulator and made my own fat wick also. It's better with a home made wick, but still just meh IMHO.

no worries brother....it is a 'mini' tank...

The ZAP is the standard size tank not the mini.
Ken

That's what I thought too - it's the mini. Even though the website lists it as 4ml capacity. My ZAP tops out at 3.1ml max.

Actually, it is the mini tank that fits on the ZAP. I had to order some from HOH before we got stock in the warehouse. My ProVari took a 3 foot fall onto tile floor and the quartz tank just didn't make it.

The standard tank also came on the AYS Edition.

Thanks for clearing this up for me and others, i used to have 2 Zens and couldnt remember the size comparison of the 2 tanks.
Thanks
Ken

Forgive me if you found me too lazy to search some more but I'd been looking for any guides on how to make an oxidized SS wick for my ZAP. I read a bunch of threads and watched tons of videos but can't find what I need.

I just want to know the exact length and width of pre oxidized SS mesh. I dont want to make any mistake because I have little of the stuff. The only preoxidized mesh that came with my used ZAP went bad a week ago so I am desperate right now.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, I have a small amount of 500 SS mesh to play with.

Thanks

If you want to duplicate the wicks that came with the ZAP, you can start w/ a piece of 400 mesh 15mm x 37mm. I unrolled the wick that was installed in mine and that was the size. You could probably do it 40mm long and trim to size when installed, if need be. I was surprised it was only 15mm of mesh rolled up.

You could probably double or triple that amount and still roll it so it would fit through the insulator. Generally the more mesh used to make the wick the better the 'wicking' ability of it. I don't recommend it for someone starting out, but I'm using 100mm of 500 mesh w/o the insulator.

Thank You very much. My ZAP's up and running again.

Because of all the information I gathered on ECF, I was able to make my first oxidized 500mesh wick. I think I made a good coil (28awg) as well. I know it's not perfect but I'm mighty proud of it.

Now I can't decide what juice to put in.

Thanks again Everyone

Now that I mastered the ZAP, time to save for a Cobra :)

I followed your suggestion and doubled the width so its a 500 SS Mesh width=30mm height=37mm

I should have done 40mm on height because it turned out a tad short at the bottom. Wanted to triple the width but was afraid it wont fit the insulator.

Thank you once again Mr MikeE3

Sorry I just have to add this:
Wick is now broken in and it's the bomb. I am having the time of my life right now vaping on my DIY Pineapple-Lime zero nic concoction. My wife even thought I sprayed freshener in our living room because the vape's so damn sweet :)

one thing that i notice is that you wrapped your wire at the top post clockwise(sounds odd but wrap it opposite of what you would think)
wrap it counterclockwise. this reduces the space to the top post and prevents a hotspot at the top

I wrapped it counterclockwise unfortunately I was too excited and cut the wire without checking if the mesh was not touching the pole :)

It's still wrapped counterclockwise but I had to jiggle the wire a bit to move the mesh away from the post. Since I have a limited 28AWG wire I figured I could live with it until the need to replace it comes.

Appreciate the input sir, thanks

i doubt nov 9th will be a go.....zen lives in new york, he lost power for many days which he just got back a day ago. shipping right now must be somewhat of a nightmare too. also he just moved which has delayed things quite a bit.....i'm sure his job called him too due to the storm

yeah, its not looking good for nov 9th, Mike had his power out for a very long period of time which means i doubt he was able to get any work done, and wasnt even able to post on the forum. im hoping *crosses fingers* that his priority will be shipping out the other stuff before he gets to the ZAP's (i really want a SW) but he just got his power back about a day ago and those wont even be available untill late next week. I really wish he would just save me the time and ship the SW right to my house

anyways, im guessing the ZAP's will get shipped after everything else, or w/ everything else if they are all ready but the frankenstorm almost definitely caused a delay for any zen devices.
