They Certainly Won't Get My Business

This happened just today. I was wanting to join a gym, so I went to inspect one. The manager was very nice, gave me a tour of the place, I was impressed. I agreed to the price for a one year membership, and was about to sign up and pay the money, then I remembered to ask about their vaping policy. I demonstrated my PV and he said he can't allow it.

I explained that vapor is not smoke, and he admitted it had no smell. His only reason was that other members might object on the grounds that the gym is smoke-free.

If anyone actually did complain to management about me "smoking", I really don't think it would be difficult to explain that I'm using an e-cig and it's not smoke. He was completely shocked when I declined joining the gym. But honestly, I'm not paying money to spend so much time in a place where I'm not welcome.

I understand both points of view but I'm gonna have to side with you. He just doesn't want to deal with the other people but he did lose a customer. Might be hard to find a health gym that lets you, I'm interested in seeing if you do. Kudos to you on saying no

It's a place to work out, not vape. Their place, their rules. Besides, it's only for an hour or so..Just leave it in the locker.

It would be much more than an hour. They have lounges, internet bar, spa, sauna, cafe. A place to relax for several hours. Either way, vapor is not smoke, and it never will be.

Doesn't matter. Like I said, their spot, their rules. You'll probably be hard pressed to find a gym of any sort that allows anything that looks like smoking.

All you have to do though, is go into the bathroom when the urge hits and take a few puffs. Problem solved....

Even though I vape myself, if I were the owner of a gym and you asked me that directly I would give you the same answer.
It's the correct business decision considering the venue.

i would have still joined,,gym membership = get healthy,,,,

if he let you vape everywhere ??? a lot of members might quit because they think you are "smoking"

I found out there are other gyms here that allow smoking, so all is well.

Hopefully I can set a good example and convert some members to switch to vaping.

I believe that, yes, it is up to the business owners if they will allow it in their place of business, but it is also up to the patron if he wants to spend his money in a place where he doesnt feel comfortable. Im with Nicko on this one.

I also completely agree. As long as you let them know why you don't spend your money there.
Perhaps return and talk to the manager again and tell him which gym you DID join that allows it. (Just so he doesn't think "she'll be back")
