I finally bought my first ecig last night! After reading around for a while, I couldn't help noticing that everyone on earth is raving about the joye ego, but I bought the joye 510 mega (in titanium) for what may seem like a silly reason: The ego looks enormous. I just couldn't imagine getting used to it in my hands or my mouth.

I'm a writer (sometimes), and I just cannot write without smoking. I can't do it! But, when I'm not writing, I'm not smoking... I hardly give it a thought. At the moment, I'm working on a huge project, and I hate the fact that I'm outside in the cold with my laptop smoking every day. It's horrible. I even stopped going to the gym because of the smoking.

So, I decided to try ecigs, and after doing some research and reading around this board, I'm so exited! I'm a little nervous about not getting the ego that everyone loves, but I think having something in my hands that feels more familiar will help me make the transition more seamlessly.

I bought my kit from Route 66 Vapor, and then bought a few different flavors from Backwoods Brew: blueberry, mocha and backwoods cherry tobacco.

Thanks everyone for providing so much great, detailed information!

Here's hoping you'll enjoy your 510. Since you only plan to use it at the desk, I would suggest a batteryless passthrough would be a great addition to your kit. Some worry about powering them via your computer's USB port. If that concerns you, there are a number of good alternatives (power pack, wall adapter).

Good luck! (Oregon! :) )

The reason most of us graduate to the Ego is that we get tired of refilling the 510, even the mega (longer) atty and being tied to a battery charger. A USB passthrough will solve the battery charge issue. Refilling frequently is a personal preference issue. If you leave the house with a 510 and carry a pocketful of full carts, you will be fine.

It's just the hassle associated with vape time. I still use my 510 here and there. In the Joye line, I like the Ego batt with a Mega Cylinder Type B atty. It's a better vape, taste and vapor wise and a cart can get you through half the day (2.5ml capacity or over 60 drops).

The Joye 510 mega will be a great pv. You can always just buy an eGo battery and charger if you find that later you want a battery that will last longer than the ones you're getting. All the parts are interchangeable. Good choice. Also...if you're chained to a computer, you might want to consider getting a 510 passthrough. Hooks right into the computer with the USB port. I think you are going to be very, very pleased with vaping. Good luck, and please let us know how it works out.

Thank you for the welcome, everybody! Thanks for the passthrough suggestion too. I swear, it took me 2 days to figure out what a passthru was, but once I did, I thought that might be absolutely essential. I didn't add one to my kit, though. I wanted to wait to see how I liked it.

But I really think I'm going to!

Can. Not. Wait.

I'll check in when it arrives, and yall can talk me down off the ceiling when I can't figure how to work it. :)

If you stick with vaping, you will evolve like most of us did to better devices. Looks become VERY secondary and effectiveness becomes primary. Most move up to at least an "eGo" type device. And a large portion of us move up to the excellent vape provided by a good 5 volt or variable volt mod PV. If I have read one, I have read hundreds of posts on here where some one gets their mod PV and wonders why they waited so long to "move up".

Good Luck with your new hobby.

Sainted_S, that is a brilliant idea. That's exactly what I'm going to do: get an ego passthru! wv2win, that is exactly the impression I was getting -- that by the time people got their egos, they didn't care what the thing looked like. After reading about that, I expect it won't be long before I "graduate". Thank you, pianoguy!

Just to give you a heads up, if you get the ego passthrough it is slightly longer than a standard eGo by about half an inch. Glad I could help.

Don't they look HUGE in the pictures!!!! I felt the same way when I started. I could NEVER walk around in public puffing on a device that looked like . . well, you know. But they really don't. It fits in your hand and most people never notice. It's harder to get them to notice that it's NOT an analog. Good luck on your writing!

I agree, vaping with my green 510 mega with green LED which is much longer than an eGo was much more conspicuous in public.

Another suggestion that works for me, a laynard that holds your PV while writing.

I do alot of creative writing myself, like you I thought, "How in the world will I write without cigarettes?" Doing this little, unfocused zone-out while puffing on a cigarette, while searching for the right images and words; analogs really were a crutch for the writing process--something I felt I had to have to write effectively. My PV has actually turned out as a better "zone" tool than an analog. I'm not constantly holding the analog in my hand while I'm typing, I'm not lighting one after another up, no more ashes on the keyboard and it is always there handy when I need those moments of reflection.

So I also had reservations about switching to a PV because of writing, but it has turned out even better in that sphere for me.

Hey wintershins. Another writer here, and I totally know what you mean about having to smoke while writing.

The eGo isn't that big. You mean you got Mega 510 batteries, correct? For reference, the eGo would actually be shorter than your Mega 510. It's just wider. Kind of like a very small cigar.

But, the 510 is a great model for sure, and getting a Mega battery will help alleviate the 510's one big flaw - the battery life. A Mega will be better. I would probably be able to get 3 or 4 hours out of it, as a somewhat heavy vaper. I haven't used it, I'm just going by the mAh of the battery, which indicates how long a charge lasts. But how much you get out of it will depend on how you vape.

It sounds like you made a pretty good first purchase. I'm sure you'll like it. If you want to move up to the eGo later, you can. All you'll need is batteries and an eGo charger. Happy vaping!

txMagic, Yes. The egos look like spark plugs to me. I think my concern is the transition. I want to waste as little time as possible getting used to it because I have deadlines. So, I thought that if I was at least aesthetically pleased (I can totally see myself with this long gold slender thing in my hand) that would give me a lot of incentive for that learning curve.

Sainted_S, A lanyard! Righteous idea. Also, yes, that's about all cigarettes are to me: zone-tools. Exactly how you describe it. I don't smoke if I'm not writing. I can't even tell you how much I'm looking forward to this!

MistressNomad, I had been reading some of your posts around here before I bought that 510, and you had me completely sold on the ego. It was actually in my shopping cart, but I did a little last second switcheroo.

Anyway, I'm very surprised by the fact that I can actually see myself vaping instead of smoking, even though I haven't tried it yet.

A few things that have me sold on it, even before I have tried it:

1. I hate supporting cig companies. It makes me feel like a freakin' hypocrite.
2. When I smoke, I stop taking are of myself altogether, and it scares the hell out of me to do it.
3. I have a kid who would freak out if he knew I was smoking -- that makes me feel guilty.
4. I'm sick of sitting outside, cleaning up cigarette butts, stinky ashtrays, stinky hair and clothes and breath... all that. Everything that goes along with smoking grosses me out.

I am so amazed at the community here! Thank you guys so much. I feel like I joined a club!
