No, this is not like that

I've got a LP/SL Grand and an RM5 on the way from the Magic shop. Never dual coiled before...
1) Is there enough room inside an RM5 to build two 3.0 Ohms coils (1.5 total Ohms, right ?)
2) Can the Adjustable Air Feature make that big of a difference ?
3) How hot will the RM5 get ? and do I still put an O-ring between the catch cup and RM5 ?

I am not looking to sub-ohm, or go cloud chasing. I DO prefer a cool, smooth vape. I just wanted to see if I can get more flavor from two coils without having to burn a whole in the back of my throat....

Any Assistance would truly be appreciated. Thanks, Papaw

My guess is that if you are hunting 3ohm coils you are going to have to use 32ga wire, 30 at least. There should be plenty of room in there for those coils so don't sweat it. Airflow is key if you are after thick vapor especially with subohm as you have to move the heat away from those coils quickly.

Should be fun, best of luck! I myself will be trying to build something like what you describe this weekend, been a long time since I wrapped a coil that high so I'm sure it will be a re-learning experience for me as well...lol.

I have an RM5, although I haven't used it in a while. Yes, there is plenty of room for your dual coils. The air inlets aren't holes; they're slots. They are quite wide, so they will give you adequate air flow for your coils. The control ring adjusts easily; in fact, a bit too easily, IMO. I've never fooled much with closing the air flow down. I always run it full open.

The trick with dual coils is they must be identical. Else one heats faster than the other. You can easily build them and 3Ω coils will be about 6 wraps of 32g wire.

The thinner wire is a springy little sod - so i blowtorch mine (to teach it who's boss!) and then it's easier to wrap.

I mainly use duals exclusively now, and like Rule - i run it wide open, but airflow control means if that's too airy for you - you can replicate the vape of your favourite atties very fast and easily.

OK, looks like a trip to TEMco is in order 'cause all I've got on hand is 28g and 29g. When you say 'blowtorch' do you mean like a real butane torch ? I think I've still got one in the Garage somewhere...

Any torch will do Pop. A cigarette lighter works too...if you even have any of those around. :)

ya - a butane lighter should do the trick as well, but, not near as fun and doesn't look as cool :D

Hiya Papa!

Once you get the hang, rebuilding can be fun...what gauge of wire do you have? And can you take a pic of the build deck? OK 28 and 29...so 30 would be easier but I would shoot for 1.3 target resistance...which is a very nice vape on duals...which means 15 wraps on 29g for each coil...still quite a few there. If you used 30g it would only be about 12 wraps each...Here is what 12 wraps of 30G looks like on an Orchid Clone deck.... topglowingorchid.jpg

Also, I slap mine on an ohm reader and the ohms should read higher than target until you start tweaking the coil and then I pulse fire it on a Mod to anneal the coil and pinch...so fire, pinch, fire pinch until the coils glow steady starting from the inside and working out. Once they look right, put it back on the ohm reader...assuming you are using a Reo with no ohm reading...

If you don't have ceramic tweezers then don't pinch it while firing...it will arc...Not dramatic but also not optimum.

Also, a 1.1 ohm build you could do 13 wraps on each...with the 29 g

This assumes a 5/64ths drill bit or 2mm

LOL, sorry to keep editing I just keep thinking of stuff to add...heh

You can use 29g - it's just more wraps.

Coil wrapping | Steam Engine | free vaping calculators

I have a butane torch and i use it to blast my RxW back to life and to take spring out of higher gauge wire. I don't need it when i make some of my lung-burner coils from 26g - that wire is thicker and stays where you wrap it.
If i don't use the torch, HRH will steal it for creme brulees and meringues and that's unacceptable!

A lighter will do, but lacks the theatre!

I've been wrapping coils for my RM2's for some time now.....

But I haven't got the RM5 yet. That should be early next week, maybe I can find a pic of the Build deck by then.....

I would say since you are waiting then to get some 30G...it will be easier.

LOL, and sorry to go all over-explaining on you there! I read it as first build not first dual build. :D
