The "expert" quoted in this article shows his ignorance with this statement (among others!):
It isn't heat that creates freebase nicotine, it's the ammonia added to tobacco cigarettes that does that, and there is *no* ammonia in e-liquid! And this from a "pulmonary expert"?* Evidently what the "expert" is expert in is regurgitating ANTZ propaganda.
*This guy's title is "Doctor," so I presume he earned either a PhD or an MD. Good grief! The highest degree I have is a bachelor of arts in language studies, and I know more science than he does! I despair....
Hate to say it, but as I've said before, all nicotine in eliquids is in the free-base form. The other form of nicotine is its salt form, which is more prevalent in natural tobacco. If nic was in its salt form in eliquids, we would not get much by vaporizing the liquid...salt form has a very high bp. The majority of vapor is absorbed orally and in the throat, with much less getting to the lungs usually.
Nicotine in NRTs is also in the free-base form, including the nicotine inhaler. Otherwise it would not release itself with inhalation. Seems this little piece of information would not have been beneficial to this perversion of truth. Instead they play on the emotional baggage of the term "freebase" knowing that many will correlate it with {SOMETHING BAD}.
The fact is, even though we do vape a solution of the freebase form, absorption is still quite slow compared to smoking, since it actually does not reach the lungs as much as it is orally absorbed. This has been measured by Dr F, published and presented at an EU cardiology conference. The FDA is fully aware of this, since I personally explained this to them in a listening session with AEMSA, and we gave them numerous articles demonstrating this.
If this Dr Leone expert in this Fox article actually believes what he is saying, then he knows nothing about ANY nicotine products on the market. I don't believe that could be true. I believe they have bought him and he has gone to the dark side of agenda science. There seems to be no way to leave comments, so my opinion is further supported. They even try to discredit Jenny McCarthy by saying she encourages parents not to vaccinate their kids. They think they are so clever.
