Throwback rda's anyone? You know that one RDA that you rarely use anymore - yet it still holds a dear place in your heart? Maybe we should rock our rendition of "Throwback Thursdays" here on ECF for RDA's and RTA's as well as devices we may still have in our possession. My "throwback RDA is this bad boy - although it served as a baseline for me - it holds a very dear spot in my vaping arsenal as well as seeing some sunlight from time to time and getting some travel time in. Why I still have it? Because it was my first RDA to ever come with me to a cloud comp, was the very first RDA that I purchased after my brief hospitalization, and still - has yet to produce anything other than a nice flavorful (lacking the clouds from time to time) vape. I love this thing - always have and always will. Although I still have a handful of other RDA's in my arsenal - this one I doubt I will ever fully let go. So let's revisit my beloved RDA for today - the CMII Zenith Doublecross (V2) RDA and let's get into why I kept this RDA for so long. First off, it held up even after all this time - very few things had to be done to it to keep it running. The O-rings are all original - no replacements needed yet although they are kind of chewed up. The insulator on the 510 connector did in fact need a bit of filing down (since I was fairly new to vaping, I ran super sub-ohm builds - .07 and lower - in it which caused the insulator to swell), and of course the center post needed to have an eraser taken to it because it was darkened by super sub-ohming. Other than that - it just worked. I never really had any issues with it cutting my wire, the hex-key screws in it are amaze-balls, the post holes were actually slots cut into the posts which was different and they were a pretty good size, and the airflow adjustments were also fairly different. The top cap had a threaded and delrin insulated drip tip section that would act as an airflow tightener (which has worked flawlessly for me) and would keep your drip tips a bit cooler than normal. Many RDA's came before this one - and many more after it, but from time to time, I get the itch for a more restrictive draw on an RDA and this one happens to be the RDA I return to - every... damn... time. And why not? It's a good RDA to have - and it's unfortunate that most of the Zenith's I see now are clearanced out. Because they were pretty expensive when they were new (I think $120+ in some stores). And I don't think they are even being made anymore by the original manufacturer. Oh well Zenith, you will always have a spot in my drawer for good RDA's and may you never leave my side:
