Greetings to everyone!

After much googling and watching of videos on youtube, my head is still kind of spinning over the amount of choices available, and I'm hoping that my groveling for advice may result in some suggestions. :)

My current analog consumption is about a pack a day of Am Spt yellows.

I picked up one of the XHale models from the 7-11 near my work, and found that the hit with the included carts was too strong (didn't care for the burning feeling in the back of my throat), which I figured was due to the strength of the juice, and the taste wasn't all that great either.

As I see it, my choices at this time are:

  • Trying the 'light' variety of the carts (not that attractive due to the taste of the mediums that came with the starter kit)
  • Attempting to refill the ones I have
  • Get a new one all together.

If I was going to get a new one, I was considering a 901 over the 510 (one of the suppliers recommended a 510 for heavy smokers, and the 901 for medium to light smokers, of which I think I fall under the medium category).

Granted I've had the XHale for not all that long, but overall I like the way it felt (ignoring the low durability of the cart, but then again, they were not designed to be refilled), and the automatic battery is nice, but I'm not above trying a manual either.

I work in front of a computer all day, I have easy access to a powered USB port and wall outlets, so being able to keep a charger around isn't a huge deal for me.

So ya, that's about it, I can't think of anything else to add, except that I'm glad I found the forum and hope to be able to have more time to read and contribute to the community.

Suggestions and pointers to reliable suppliers are welcome!

I was in the same place vaping wise. I was a pack a day smoker and decided to try the Xhale from 7-11. I liked it enough to decide to continue vaping and found this forum to educate myself about better e-cigs.

I went with an 801 with a manual battery. I love it, not a lot of throat hit and it's different enough from an analog that I can mentally separate the two. I bought mine from PHX Smokeless Cigarettes (phxsmokelesscigarettes.com) mostly because they are local, I could pick it up, and the price wasn't bad. Their supply of other products is limited so I'd recommend a larger vendor where you can pickup some juice and a passthrough at the same time. I'd also recommend getting juice or carts with 18 to 20mg nicotine. I bought all 10 and 12mg stuff and have been having serious cravings since I was using too low a nic.

Just my two cents, Good luck and welcome to the forums.

Welcome! Shortly you will be getting a lot of advice. May I suggest the videos in the sticky section above the main page...specifically the ones by Mistress Nomad, they really helped me. I started with a KR808d-1. You can obtain one from many retailers for around 30 dollars for a starter kit. I've personally used myvaporstore.com. They had excellet shipping speed and I recieved my kit within 2 days of ordering. I've also ordered from cignot.com and they are also very fast and come highly recommended, though I don't think they carry the kr808. You will want to get several different flavors and different nic levels to start out. I'd recommend not going over 24MG though as that is way too high for me, and I was a pack a day smoker. I usually stay around 18 and 12 MG as my options. You can get prefilled cartomizers or empty one's that you can fill and re-use. FreedomSmokeUSA has some really good juices and they are reasonably priced. Good luck to you in your adventure.

Make sure to check out the stickies on the new members forum. The most recommended starter kits are either the KR808 or one of the 510 atty kits (510, Ego, Riva, etc.) which use the 510 atty but offer different battery choices. The 801 and 901 were mentioned more when I started just four or five months ago, but don't seem to get much love these days. To be honest, I don't think you'd go too far wrong with any of these. I also don't think any of these will make a huge change in the throat hit you're experiencing, not to the point where one is vapable and another isn't. I think your juice is the biggest factor there. Consider some lower nic level juice and also a higher VG content.

When I started the vapor was very harsh. Getting some better USA made juice helped, but it just took me a while to make the transition and get used to vaping. Menthol juice may also be a little less harsh.

Wow, great info so far, keep it coming!

I admit, I've not read all the stickies yet, but I did watch the videos and they have helped a lot in clearing up much of my confusion, as well as answering many questions I've had so far.

One of my biggest concerns so far is getting ripped off. I know that the electronic cig is fairly new in the colonies and now becoming more 'mainstream' (youtube has a clip of someone on stage with letterman showing hers off), and there are a lot of fly-by-night sellers out there sending out knockoffs and then disappearing with the dosh, so where I buy is fairly important (my margins are very thin at the moment).

But with the sites that have been provided so far, I've got a start. Thank you all, and as I stated, I hope that I'll be able to contribute down the road as well.

MXBNW: Bellingham eh? Wow, you are really far north of me. I'm in the Portland Oregon area. Native Oregonian as well, plan on dying in the Pacific NW, unless I find a way to get back to the UK. This is just home for me on this side of the pond. :p

I used to smoke A.S. Yellows and I found that the 510 suited me perfectly until a month ago.

Now, I have gone to eGo because I love the little extra throat hit and warmth with using the cone. I still use 510's for some of the flavors and the attys are interchangeable between the two.

I got my 510's and ECOpure juice from cignot.com (they are one of the very best suppliers here on ECF).

Go for it and welcome to the Wonderful World of Vaping and ECF.

Welcome to the forums! :) The 510 is a great choice for a beginner (and beyond) and the 510 attys work with the eGo and the 905 (with an adapter) so if you choose to upgrade in the future, you have a head start!

Shannon, loved that link! I didn't take the quiz, but when I saw the pic I had to laugh - I have all those models and the Njoy (did someone take a pic of my desk?) lol

I think someone else mentioned this but if you scroll down through all the sub-forums you will find "Forum Suppliers", a whole list of ECF suppliers that have their own sub-forums. It may not be a guarantee, but if you have a problem with an ECF supplier, and can not resolve it on your own, the folks that run the forum will try to help you out.

Also under "Buying and Selling", you'll find "E-Cigarette Suppliers Forum". Special deals and offers are posted here.

And that is one of the things I liked about the 510, the ability to mix and match parts like that.

One more plus for the 510. :)

Welcome to the forum. I have to agree that the 901 may provide you with the most satisfaction. I have used both the 901 and the 510, and the 901's flavor is smoother. Since you are at the computer most of the day, just get a pass through and you won't have to be bothered with the short life of the batteries. You can feel good about dealing with the suppliers listed here, but I have to second the recommendation for Madvapes, you can't beat their prices on hardware. Order samples from a few different suppliers to help you find your favorite juice. Best of luck, please let us know how it goes.

I went the KR808D-1 (808) two-piece route, been happy with it. It let me start with an auto battery in a very much cigarette-like form factor, decent battery life between recharges, and there's an option to use XL batteries -- a bit longer, but noticeably longer use time between charges.
When I decided to upgrade, I was happy with 808 cartos, and the voltage, went to a G400 -- same KR808 connector, same voltage, just that it has a whomping battery and bigger cartomizers (as well as using my 808 cartos). An 808 can also use 901 atomizers if you get a burning urge to try atties later.

I'm also a big believer in passthroughs (PT) -- I use one in my car, and another in the office. Very convenient -- I keep lower strength juice in the PT at work, where I'll tend to chain-vape, while having a higher mg carto in a battery in my pocket.

Welcome and good luck!
