After a week of vaping, I got a really sore throat and felt as though I hada lump in my throat. Got so bad I went to the dr. Turns out that I have a really bad case of thrush ( a fungal infection) in my mouth and throat. I have never had this before and I am healthy. It's definitely from vaping... I'm so disappointed. I was really excited to be smoke free. Now I don't know what to do. I have a prescription to clear up the infection but am not sure if it will keep coming back if I continue to vape :( anyone else experience the same. From what I can find online, this happens often from vaping... Advice?

Uh... Please explain.

Reason I question it....

There are over 125,000 members here... this is the first case of thrush "due to vaping" i have heard of...

I have however heard of small children and infants getting it a lot... they must be vaping fiends. ;)

Thrush is most commonly caused in adults by antibiotics... Vaping does not cause thrush.

My advise, PLEASE refrain from posting questions as definitive facts... it's this type of reactionary incorrect information that the FDA and others will use in an attempt to ban/over-regulate ecigs... For instance, Vaping was recently banned at a local business I frequent... the reason cited was the old Diethylene glycol study that has been proven inaccurate numerous times.

Thrush is a fungal infection that sometimes follows a person taking a course of antibiotics for an infection elsewhere in the body, much as women often get yeast infections after taking antibiotics. The antibiotics kill off the good bacteria that keep the yeast in check, allowing them to run rampant. Had you been taking antibiotics recently?

Another cause of fungal infections is diabetes and high blood sugar. Have you been checked for that?

i have never heard of anyone contracting thrush (fungal infection) from vaping either, if thrush does occur its likely from another source. Allergies to PG can cause irritation and do exist but the number of people with a PG allergy is fairly minute. If you are vaping with vg/pg mix try 100% VG and see if your symptoms improve. Of course your health is important and a doctor's advice should be taken seriously, however diagnoses and causes for diagnoses or often wrong. Maybe get a second opinion? Like Clippin Wings said, thrush is highly unlikely as there really hasn't been any word or documentation of actual cases proven to be caused by vaping. Best advice, get another opinion, do some research, try different mixes of pg/vg, increase cleaning of your vaping equipment etc. whatever you can do that is safe for your health to stay off analogs, I wouldn't give up on vaping just yet. perhaps, lay off vaping until your symptoms have subsided and give it another go and see what happens? either way, follow the course that feels right for you.

I had some similar symptons, and it turns out that I am allergic to my stainless steel driptips, which contain nickel, which I am allergic to. Once I switched to plastic driptips, the symptoms went away.

As new vapors, we are quick to blame vaping for our issues. I think that one has to look at other factors, as well, before coming to a conclusion. It is possible to be allergic to either VG or PG, the main components of eliquid, or to a flavoring, but it could be something not related to vaping, as well.

I guess I made a mistake posting my issue here. I didn't think I would end up with a bunch of negative responses. I'm not trying to bash vaping. In fact, quiet the opposite. I think it's fantastic to find a healthy alternative to smoking. I was not taking antibiotics of any kind. I have never experienced this condition before. Believe whatever you like. I was looking for advice, not criticism. I don't need a medical professional to tell me that this is caused by the e liquid in my case. I know it is. That doesn't mean that I won't try again with perhaps a different liquid when it has cleared up. I'm really disappointed that this has happened. Trying to find a solution, not be bashed. Try searching fungal infection an ecigarette online. Lots of others have this issue. Try helping come up with a solution and not making a new member feel like an outcast. I got enough of that when I was smoking cigarettes... :(

If you are sure it's caused by vaping, then stop vaping. That is the only answer. I don't think anyone was purposely trying to be rude to you, but there is nothing about vaping that should cause thrush. Vaping doesn't cause fungus. If I were you, I would wash all of my equipment well, especially drip tips. If you let stuff get nasty or dirty, you could be introducing nasty little fungi into your mouth.

Edited to add: Too much sugar can cause yeast infections, maybe look into the sweeteners in the juice (although I'm not sure that could cause it either, unlesssomeone drank it).

Yeast is caused by sugar. Knowing that, I would have to say that you may want to try using 100% PG ejuice. VG is sweet and even used in bakery items.

There is a long discussion in the health section here at ECF as to whether or not VG may make blood sugar rise in diabetics. You may want to take a look around in that section and maybe even post there once you are able to. You will find that there are many more helpful folks on this forum than not :)
