@mattiem I would really hate to see you go :( I understand you need to do what is right for you though.

As of late it seems like quite a few older members are expressing feeling put off by how much the forum has changed, in a variety of ways, over the past year and are leaving or barely active here anymore.

I can feel your pain. A lot of suffering in life is optional, so why would you do something that brings you discomfort?

Last week I also found myself getting annoyed when on more than one occasion, I'd be happily reading a thread, relating to it, then getting ...... when someone uses the vaping problem to bash opposing political views out of nowhere, treat vaping like smoking, giving bizarre, unqualified medical advise and urging serious newbies to get in over their heads.

It's sad that you can't enjoy what is good about the vaping community---

Well said! but for myself even if all the neg they (much outright lies) say about how bad e-cigs are, or cigarettes for that matter, I, as a grown man, should be able to decide for myself!!! Again, this fight we are in is not about vaping or smoking, it is a fight for our very freedom. But in a democracy, the majority always smash the minority unless it"s not PC. Someone said a democracy consists of two wolves & a sheep voting on whats for dinner.

Mattiem take a break but come back I agree the negativity has increased and concerns over this tone and that tone but plenty of good stuff still to get into and leave that stuff to those who want to worry about it. I don't agree with the "vape everywhere" mantra of some but I don't agree with the "find a dark corner" brigade either as with most things the right position is in the middle with a dose of common sense. Vaping as a community needs a good balance of the middle ground to drown out the extremists at either end so take a break put the rubbish part out of your head and then come back for the decent discussions. Whatever you choose to do I wish you the best and hope you have less stress, hopefully cya later :).

I have been an active member here for well over 4 years but it is time for me to take a break. It seems like more and more threads just upset me. We all seemed to be in this together when I first joined but over the past year it all seemed to have changed. I am seeing to many post made by to many folks that have been convinced that vaping is no better than smoking.

There are just to many here now that believe that we should refrain from vaping if smoking isn't allowed--even outdoors. Those that believe we are being rude if we even allow anyone to see us vape. Those that believe we should just go hide in a corner and be ashamed of this life saving journey we have taken. As far as I am concerned the ANTZ have just about won the battle and I am just plain tired of it. I will continue to vape but can no longer put myself through the stress of what this has become.

I am going to miss a lot of folks that I have met here but enough is enough.

Best of wishes @mattiem
I see what you are seeing, albeit not as prevalent as I believe you are seeing it. Though I also am not as active as I usually am, mostly check messages, browse a couple pages, and respond where I see I need to or would like to add a perspective. Your input has always been good, will be sorely missed to not have it, but still best wishes, drop by from time to time and post a reply in one of the larger, constant threads, let us know how you are doing.

Also synonymous for "We're miserable and think that everyone else should be miserable too, so we're going to drag you down to our level because we need the company of more miserable people so we can feel better about how miserable we are."

I get a feeling this thread is displaying an age prejudice. You youngsters are ruining it for us. Be quiet, don't make waves. You haven't been around. Wet behind the ears.

Young vapers are the most precious asset we have in this fight. They will carry on when we are gone.

Hail American youth..

To clarify my post just in case it was misunderstood, when I said "older members" I mean in terms of the number of years they have been members on this forum, not age.

Mattiem, words fail me at the moment. I'm deeply saddened, I hope you chose to come back soon. I get it, I really do. I'm glad I missed that thread, haven't been here much lately. If you do decide to leave for good, I hope you remember foremost the people you have helped and touched. I'm one of those, I'll miss you dearly. Please think about dropping by once in a while, at the least, to let us know you're doing well.

Oh man, Mattiem, I'll really miss you.

You know, when I get stressed, I like to take some time off and be alone. I'll make my self a nice sack lunch, get some good drink and then take a hike. I like to climb above the world so I hike the 200 steps up the bell tower near my house where I can see for miles and miles...especially on a good, clear day and when I have my rifle scope with me, I can see very clearly. Then I blow off steam by picking out individuals and making the "ptssshoo" sound as I imagine myself a mighty sniper deep in the Vietcong jungle or the rocky outcrops of Afghanistan. Sometimes its just a peaceful afternoon. Other times, I'm joined by the local police department who have cordoned off the surrounding blocks while they investigate when I am doing and if I am a danger to anyone (usually tipped off by a reactionary bobblehead (it's a crazy world when you can't just sit in a bell tower with a rifle scope and no rifle peacefully without everyone getting up in your business.) Usually, a few of the officers will join me in a couple of "ptssshoo's" after the news helicopters have left (I've been on ABC, CBS, FOX and WGN but never NBC or CNN yet) and the traffic has started rolling again. Then I enjoy a nice sunset and feed Pop Rocks to the pigeons and watch them get a really surprised look on their faces before they throw up.

That's a good read Robin :thumb:

That's not bad. I recommend something meatier: The Internet Classics Archive | The Art of War by Sun Tzu

“Engage people with what they expect; it is what they are able to discern and confirms their projections. It settles them into predictable patterns of response, occupying their minds while you wait for the extraordinary moment — that which they cannot anticipate.”
― Sun Tzu, The Art of War

As always, the voice of reason in a world of insanity...
