Wow, didn't know vaping went back 10 yrs. Thought it was more recent 6 maybe 7 ish. Thats cool to see the grandaddy vape stuff.

The first posts on this forum came in 2007. Crazy, I know!

Hi! (<---Old 2007 thread) Seems kinda fitting that it was toward the end of the year.

Timeline of vaping...let's talk about something that for us rebuilders, changed everything and that was the micro coil and cotton. Before that, you had genesis, but with every other rebuildable, like the reos, kayfuns, etc, and whatever type of dripper that was around, all coils were thin gauge and wrapped around a silica wick. These coils were spaced far apart and were a pain. You took a piece of silica in one hand and coiled around the wick, then you took this coiled wick and attached it to your posts. I hated this and never liked silica , so I kept using my gennys although i did use this method in both my kayfun and reo. This all changed in 2012 or 2013 when superxdrifter came up with the micro coil. One thing he did was use a slightly thicker wire like 28g and wound the coil first around a bit . At first they were contact coils and diameters were smaller and instead of the normal 4 or 5 wraps of regular coils, these coils had many wraps. You needed more wraps and smaller ID's because of the thicker wire because most never went under a certain resistance back then. Another advantage of this micro coil was you could mount it to the posts first, then wick it. This brought an issue however, silica was a pain to thread, so brain storming began and a few options were brought up and cotton was the winner. This forever changed the rebuildable vaping world ....

I'm picturing something like this

What happened to steeljan anyway?

Another of the wonderful people that got undeservedly (and mercilessly) attacked for no good reason, then packed it in and left for good; much to the dismay of vapers everywhere. We were the losers in the ordeal.

This is just one of many vids made (coming to her defense). Scroll down (not far) to see some of her own comments.

None of it mattered. Bottom line is that she left and never came back (sadly).

She must have gotten over it in time. She later did a review on a Nic dealer. Seemed fine. Sure gotta have a thick skin nowadays, things sure ain't what/how they used to be. Wish I was more civil myself.

I didn't know that and am THRILLED to hear it. She must have started a new channel then too. Her old one is still there, but dormant.

    THANKS, Rs&7s!!!

I'm loving this thread. I really had forgotten how much B.S. we all put up with trying to get a decent vape back in the day. It's no small wonder that people seem to have a high rate of converting to vaping now than five years ago.

I remember when the Atlantis tank came out, I was super skeptical. At that point in time sub ohm vaping was something only for the mech mod wielding drippers. And now look at us, there's hundreds of sub ohm tanks out there and we've all but phased out mech mods.

well sorta,i was active on a different forum then,,only 12-ish of us total,
we went on manhunt looking for different wicking options
we had tried something like 9 different types of material, everything from the land and even some from the sea,yes the great big blue ocean .
funny thing is,all of the options found a home with at least one of us,some liked this better then others and so on

Never been on any other forums, so I'm glad that what I remember here, specifically the micro coil and reo thread by sup is fairly accurate. I know ready wicks, which became quite popular, was one that was close to being the "one".

Mmmmm Genesis atomizers. I loved hating them. Hated loving them? They were the least worst for a while there? Something like that... I really was very grateful when the Kayfun arrived. That was game changing.

ready wick was the 2nd version of that stuff,,the 1st wasn't cooked and was a serious pain to work with !! worse then silica ever thought of being

I sincerely liked SteelJan. She did many of the demo reviews for Smokeless Image on their website; my first starters were Smokeless Image Volts.

I didn't always agree with her, though. She was one of the people who was quite vocal about not using the "new" unprotected batteries in our mods like the red AW IMR. I had done quite a bit of research on batteries, and debated that unprotected IMR batteries were actually safer chemistry and didn't need protection circuits built into the battery. Turns out that I was right and she was wrong.

However, I was not one of those "trolls" mentioned in the video. I respectfully gave my opinion on the matter and that was that. I didn't have the means to make my own videos, so I did make a blog on ECF titled, Battery Basics for Mods: IMR or Protected ICR? | E-Cigarette Forum

I my case (and probably in most of our cases), I believe the next person will be the first person... ;)

If I recall correctly, some trolls actually found her home and showed up there (long before it became "fashionable" to do such idiotic things). Unfathomable (smh).

Can't like your post - the information was too depressing, are you serious, people went to her house and harassed her over e-cig reviews? I thought that was a new occurrence of disgusting human beings, my disgust is without bounds. (Now Rip Triper, well...)
