I agree the smaller tanks are less prone to flooding.

These bottom coil things depend on air pressure/vacuum in the tank to keep from flooding. The larger air volume in the PT vs. the mini or evod is what causes the flooding problems. More air expands with temperature change. Heat from the coil conducted through the center tube heats up and expands the air, pushing liquid into the coil head faster. That's my theory and I'm sticking to it.

Then explain to me why the 2 protank 2's have never flooded.

Interesting reading through all of these posts. I love my Protanks, 2 and mini. I had some problems with gurgling at first, but not recently. I don't have the ability to rewick or build coils since I have hand problems.

I've tried quite a few toppers now and I personally don't like top coils and can't fill cartos. I use a vtox for secondary flavors, and I also have a Davide that I like (though it is out of order right now til I can find a replacement o-ring), but the protanks are the easiest for me to use, the flavor is as good as anything I've tried and I don't have to fiddle with them to enjoy vaping'

Somewhere out there

I'm not saying that flooding is inevitable, just trying to explain it when it does happen. You may have the right combination of liquid viscosity and flavor wicks to avoid flooding.

Another factor could be that chain vaping heats up the air more vs. long pauses between puffs.

I silently gave up on Protanks a few months ago. I found the iClear30S works way better with less effort. There are probably a lot of other tanks that do. :)

The iClear 30's definitely work better and I just picked up a couple of Aspire BDC tanks and like them even more. Too early to tell though with the Aspire tanks as it has only been a couple of days but no leaking, great flavor and good smoke so far, liking them better than the iClear 30's so far. I have an original Protank and a II but they just collect dust now, tired of having to fiddle with them to get them to work right.

I chain vape and I use stock coils. My protank 2 did flood once when I first got it I was using a 80/20 mix a friend gave me. I went back to my go to mix 50/50 and never gurgle or flood while chain vaping stock coils

Ill defend them!! I have several PT2'S and 4-5 mini PT 's. I also recieved one of their Unitanks a couple of weeks ago. While I did have an issue with leaking and gurggling when I started, it all stopped when I learned to re-wick (with cotton) and re-coil. It produced a much better quality controled atomiser that doesn't leak, gurrgle and blows my socks off at the taste and vapor!

The Unitank on the other hand... its like trying to vape underwater.... I think I've got that problem almost licked though. I think spring tension on the trap is essential to making it leak/gurgle free. Also it seems to not like thick juices. Bobas and GJ were aways a leaky gurggly mess! Never have a problem with my 50/50 GoodeJuice liquid (Its still a work in progress)

I own others as well (iclear 30s and am waiting for my vapemail for 2 brand new iclear 30b's!) Kanger is what I started with and they have done right by me for a long time!

Don't give up on them!

(Vaping 100% VG AVE Gorilla Juice in a full size PT 2 as I type this in all its leakless glory!)

I have a PT2 mini and just got 2 more today. Haven't had any issues with mine and am loving them. Will eventually try out higher end tanks but I feel for the price to PT series is an excellent value!
I've got 4 of them, and I absolutely love mine. If it gurgles, I clean the battery connection, tighten the coil in the base, and blow the excess out of it. Back to vaping like a pro in short order.

I too am very new to vaping, but I've never had a problem with my PT II Mini and only a little with my PT II. What I have found, though, is that I lost the rubber o-ring on the base of the Mini without knowing it, and while it still worked, the draw was not right until I replaced it with one of the spares from the box. They also are used to replace the seals in the top and bottom of the tank assembly. Huge difference! You can get extra o-rings for 34 cents each from The Digital Cig, LLC. I already stocked up on both sizes. So I say, when in doubt, try new o-rings!
I lost 2 of the o-rings from the bases. I found them 2 weeks later. Both ended up on the coil (2 seperate coils, not the same one). I have no idea how that happened.

Wash the stock heads in the hottest water you can stand. Do this every few days. Let them dry and when you put them back in.... it will be like a whole other head without issue. most of the time anyway. Cleaning will get you much more life and better performance out of them.
I do the same, but I just slap them back in the tank wet with fresh juice and burn right through the water. No need to wait.

Just had a brain wave !.
An electric protank, not a brainwave but a brain tsunami !. You push your button on your battery, as always, and the power would drive the fan in the tip. Huh, then i would "no longer suck".
That's right, i'm an innovator...............WHAT !
They've already invented this - years ago. Look up the legalvape 4000. :p

If you like your Protank II, you can keep it!
Oh shoot. So when are they going to tax me for them, and make me buy a case of knockoffs to send to a bunch of older, sicker folks?

Every time someone complains about the protank ll people swoop in and offer up all the quick fixes and analogies to why it doesn't work properly. Well...you shouldn't have to take something out of the box and do anything except start using it. First thing is I don't want to keep my protank "topped off" to make it work properly because I may not want to vape another tank of that particular flavor. So I could pour the old flavor back into the bottle right...No, because it's burned up like any and every juice I put in it whether it's clear or dark or high pg or low pg. I've had 2 protanks for almost 4 months and there's no fixing these things. They're gonna gurgle they're gonna leak on your battery they're gonna burn up your juice they gonna burn thru your coils and they're gonna work great for the first vape of the day after you dry your battery replace your coil and put new juice in them! I put the top off of one of my wifes evods on to my joy tech ego (where my protank used to be) and it works great been using the same coil for a week and it hasn't even started to blacken the wick and the battery last 3 days. I was about to give up on ecigs because though the evod worked ok I could drain the battery in no time but I have found the perfect combination by swapping the heads.

I hate protanks also! They leak! They pop in your mouth!

Oh my god. I just re-wicked the stock coil with cotton yarn I had already and it is a HUUUUUUGE difference. I can actually taste the flavor again!

I just removed everything, stuck the head/coil in my gas stove flame for a few seconds, threaded the new wick in, added a couple small pieces on top, primed it and closed it up. SO EASY!! Thanks for this thread! I happen to like my PT2 mini... :)
I think you misunderstood what "dry burning" is, dry burning is firing the coil with no juice (an in the case of cotton) no wick, think "wickless coil" dry burning the coil turns red a few times, dry burning with the silica wick the coil will smoke and the wire turn red, repeating that until the smoke stops (burns off the goo in the wick and coil and since glass fiber's melting/burning point is WAY over that of the kanthal wire, it doesn't technically "burn" but the dry goo/juice in the wick does) simple re-rinse, laying of the cotton wick across coil (if you didn't remove the silica wick) and viola, re-wicking if you pulled all the wicks out is simple but more than "beginner level" tweaking

Glad you got it working, but holding the entire head in the fire isn't good for the silicon gaskets

Lol believe it or not, we've come a long way. Ask any veteran that started out with 510 atties and carts; there was the coffee stirrer mod, and the pyramid tea bag mod, and the spring mod (from ball point pens) and the fluval mod... Yeah, you get the picture. ;)

Oh I remember those days...

Maybe I'm just lucky but I have a PT2, a PT3, and 3 mini PT2's and have no issues with any of them. No gurgle, no leak (occasional TINY bit of liquid just on the connector of the Provari). Coils have been lasting 1-2 weeks just with removing and soaking after every couple fills and I use them till the liquid is gone- no topping off... am I in the minority having a positive experience here?

Nope, I had some gurgling when I first got mine but after the first rebuild it went away. The bottom line is that this is a more advanced version of the evod tank and because it comes apart it will have an amount of tweaking required. If you are happy with EVOD, great but those of us who are happy with our protanks are going to defend them because we love them as much as you hate them.

When I first started vaping, I loved the Protank II for it's ease and simplicity. I bought 3 with spare coils. They ALL leaked, gurgled, and were too restrictive. Then I got into RBA's, all I use now. My Protanks are sitting in my tackle box, never used. BUT, they are still better than a lot of other alternatives out there.
