S. 982, the FDA tobacco bill, has passed the HELP committee by a vote of 15-8. This means the bill will now head to the floor of the Senate, and is scheduled to be heard and voted on by the full Senate as early as the first week of June, which is less than 2 weeks away.

Contact your Senators now. You can find them here. Filter the list to your state by using the dropdown at the top of the Senator list.

And contact them often. Make your voice heard, make them pay attention to you. Everytime you contact their office, refer to S. 982, the designated number of the legislation, so they know specifically which bill you are referring to. The more we bring this to their attention, and specifically our views as their constituents, the better chance we have of gaining the upper hand in making sure this legislation fails.

And if any of you need any help or guidance, please do not hesitate to ask me or anyone else here willing to put in the time and effort to get our voices heard.

I DID IT. it is painless to call up your states sentors office, the intern that answers is polite, they seem to check what the bill is, they say they will let the sentor know. i have the bad luck of in california my sentor is a sponser of the bill, i still said to the intern that i think feinstein<sp> should really look at e-cigarettes and amend the bill to give e-cigerattes a chance.

You might want to skip over Kennedy and maybe try another senator. Kennedy is the primary sponsor of this bill. I would doubt highly that he can be swayed since he's been fighting for this thing a long long time.

Too bad he didn't feel it was as necessary to try and save the girl he was with during the infamous Chappaquiddick incident nor report the incident right away. Amazing that one so devoid of character can be in a position to sit in judgement of others for so long....

I guess it's all water under the bridge now..

What would be the consequences if most (not gonna get all) USA suppliers were to immediately stop shipments that include even trace amounts of nicotine carts -- starting today? Yes, I mean not a trace of nicotine; only include flavored or even unflavored carts. This would be only temporary of course. How temporary -- I do not know. Before your answer:

Can the ECA get this proposed new USA supplier policy to the right people before the Senate vote? Will it even matter? I guess the ECA could be the place to start, but if there are more powerful people or groups on our side, by all means let’s contact them before the Senate vote. Consumers will have to buy nicotine e-juice from China or even JC, if they are so inclined (of course we won’t mention that).

If suppliers simply sell only hardware and nothing containing nicotine, or any reference to nicotine, then no government agency can legitimately label our supplier’s hardware as a Nicotine Delivery Device.

I don’t expect positive responses, but look to the alternative—no sales. This is merely a plea bargain so to speak. However, suppliers will show they are willing to compromise.

Why propose this? Well, the only tobacco I smoke now is the stuff you have to roll yourself with papers. I believe those papers constitute a Nicotine Delivery Device. Everybody knows the majority of those buying rolling papers do not use them for their intended purpose, yet they are still legal. I think this is an angle to consider especially if the new devices that do not really resemble a real cigarette are shown to the powers that be. Again, this would be temporary. If a new bill is subsequently launched, Ted Kennedy will not get favorable (and unfair) votes by going out with his last hoorah, without full consideration of the of the real issue – Nicotine.

Just a newbie throwing this out there…I gots a thick skull….

Simple enough, I have all those patches leftover from my failed attempts at quitting. I will simply soak them in water / pg / glycerin and make my own juice. I am sure someone online has a recipe. Those patches come in 16 mg nicotine and are readily available at walmart. :)

I will always find a way to get my nicotine (if I still need nicotine by the time this occurs)
