Sorry folks...Im not hiding while vaping. I didnt when I smoked, just went to my smoking area. I work for the postal service and today was handed a letter (along with other vapers) telling us we are prohibited from "using any device that creates smoke in non-smoking areas...this includes ecigarettes". Told them it wasnt smoke and it is water vapor. Smokers have a smoke area outside, non-smokers have their area outside as well. Where the heck do I go...I dont want to go to a smoking area! I quit smoking! So I see many people here in the forums speaking of hiding in bathrooms at work and so forth, Im not doing it! I think anyone using a personal vapor device should be allowed to vape in a non-smoking area outside. Would I have any legal premiss to push for an area outside of analog smoking areas with same setup as both smoking and non-smoking areas at work? They have theirs so we should have the right to ours as well...right? What would you do?

I guess it depends on how much you need the job. I would mostly go and hang with the smokers. I don't look down on them, how could I, I smoked for 25 years. Just because I quit doesn't mean others should. Who knows you make make some converts.

I totally agree with this... I go outside to the smoking area at work (gotta see my pals). I have had many questions about vaping from the smokers and even gotten a few people to go online and order one of their own.

I dont look down on smokers...just trying to prove a point. All of my buddies at work smoke and some vape too. We all hang and vape in the smoking area as well. It would take an act of congress for me to lose my job...lol.. so no worries there for me! The point is, I was handed a letter along with only those who vape and told not to vape in a outside break area. I am on federal property so no smoking ban here and there are outside break areas for both smokers and non-smokers. If they tell me I cant vape anywhere but a smoking area then it is their burden to accommidate me as they would non-smokers..

I would just vape with the smokers. I would assume that there is a very small number of vapers at your workplace. The chances of having a special area put aside for vapers if highly unlikely.

Not with the US govt...bring up equality and butts start to pucker...I have been watching it for years! :)

I guess if you really wanted to push it, you could ask them to clarify their definition of "smoke". Their statement says: "using any device that creates smoke in non-smoking areas...this includes ecigarettes"

I mean, if it's the smoke they are opposed to, then yeah, vapor is technically smoke as defined in a dictionary. If they define smoke however as the burning of tobacco, then they would be wrong.

Makes me thankful of where I work. It's a big engineering firm, 100% smoke free corporate policy on the main property (in theory people cannot even smoke in our parking lots, have to go onto the road). Fortunately a fair amount of my time is either in my own cube or at meetings with colleagues; they all realize they can't smell anything from it, so I happily puff away at meetings. (I did read the written policy, and what I'm doing isn't tobacco products nor does it meet the definition of smoke, so a laid-back approach, not being pushy, worked well for me.)
Think I'll post the policy, plus an e-cig intro, outside my office, just as information.
Good luck!

What would I do you ask? HMMMM..... well for starters because you work for Post Office and they can tell you what you can and can't do on their propery I would simply go 1 in. off propery and do whatever I please. If that is not an option because of time constraints then I would just Ninja Vape where ever I wanted (hold it for say 4 seconds and poof no vapor) if your not making "smoke" then your not breaking any rules yes? Stay strong and make your voice heard. Good luck you work for the government, change might not be quick in coming.
