Tomorrow is my birthday and my friend is taking me to a movie (Saw 3D. Never seen a 3d movie before), then we're going to dinner with some friends and family, then out to the pub to drink some beer and shoot pool. Overall I figure I am going to be away from the house for 10+ hours. I do not intend to bring my pack of analogs with me, as if I don't have them, well, nothing I can do about it, and less tempting. Anyway, this will be the first time I've been out in public for an extended period of time (I am a computer geek who generally stays at home). vaping at the movie sounds like it will be a nice change of pace rather than missing parts of it for a smoke break. I hope I can stealth well. Shouldn't be too hard in the theater since it's dark, and at dinner I could just step outside easily enough. But while we're at the pub, it's hard to take a smoke break while playing pool sometimes, so I hope I can stealth there effectively.

My issue is the town I live in. They view smokers as if we were Nazi's in 1940's Germany. They are so bad about it that if you are walking down the block with a smoke, and no matter how badly you try to keep it away from other people, someone halfway down the block will inevitably give that fake little cough as if just the mere presence of smoke in a 1 mile radius will kill them. I am hoping that there are vapers out there in this town and that people are already aware of it and at least somewhat accepting of it, but I have serious doubts due to how close minded people here are about smoking.

I won't just outwardly vape in a pub or anything just to be respectful, and if I were noticed stealthing and asked to stop I would. I just hope my first time out like this won't end up bad. Should I just ask the bartender or whoever is in charge that night if it is alright, and explain what it actually is, or should I just stealth away and hope for the best?

I vap pretty much everywhere, in So Cal. Today I was at Univeral Studios Hollywood with my son and his friend, and vapped all over the park.

Nobody said a word to me! (I did talk with my son's friend's father, and explained that I do vap. I asked if he had a problem with my vapping around his son, and he said he didn't mind at all)

I know about smoke nazi's... but I am pretty surprises that No. California is THAT much different the the Los Angeles/Beverly Hills area.

Perhaps, if you vap out in the open, but respectfully, you'll be surprised.

Good luck and stick with it!

Ok, so vaping in the theater was easy enough. When I went to the club, I just asked the owner if it would be alright to vape, but he knew nothing of it. I explained to him what it was but because he had no knowledge he didn't want to take a chance, so I respected that. Next time I will bring him some stuff to read so he will be more informed if it comes up again. He told me to just go on the patio and vape, which was convenient since it was right next to where I was playing pool. Then...

Another employee comes out there and tells me there's no smoking on the patio. I told him the owner said it would be alright because I'm not smoking, I am using an e-cig. He seemed confused, but walked away. Another employee later on also told me there's no smoking and about the same response happened. Perhaps it's time we all print out fliers and begin nailing them to every post on the corner in hopes people will get informed somehow.

I was a little nervous the first time I vaped in public too, but I think you'll be surprised. I honestly expected to get all kinds of comments, questions and rightous indignation from those not in the know. I was in a busy night club vaping in full view of everyone; on the dance floor and at the bar ordering drinks and talking to the bartenders. Not trying to be sly about it at all. Not a single question or comment all night except for from the friends I came with. Went to a second bar, same night. This was more of a restaurant with a live band. Vaped right at the table, talking to the waitress, blowing plumes of vapor into to the stage spotlights. Nothing. Not a single comment, not a single question. And smoking in all these places has been banned for years here. Repeat this story (with varying locations) every Friday and Saturday night for the last 5+ months I have been vaping.

You're not going to have any problems. Of course a couple times a month I do get someone ask about my e-cig, but these encounters thus far (knock wood) have all been positive; people interested in getting their own.

Vape openly without fear. Let your vape flag fly!
