My mother and I went to eat lunch with a nice old lady and her son (actually older than me) He was very interesting and outspoken on many subjects (that I am interested in... borderline "conspiracy" stuff) we got along fine, then I mentioned I was going out for a break (while we waited for the food) to vape. Oh my gosh... he just got quiet and that look on his face... yes, that look! He said he quit smoking, ate lots of food, gained 10 pounds, then later lost the weight. Just about to give me the "dangers of vaping" speech, but I cut him short. Been through this many times with other people... all brain washed by main stream media.

somebody (smoking a cig) approached me and said: "you know, that is very bad for you, it's much worse than a cigarette"...
Yeah, some smokers feel threatened by vaping. If they allowed themselves to believe that it was better then they'd have to switch. And they've been self-justifying for ages in the face of increasing societal pressure. So they pick up whatever factoid aligns with their habit and run with it.
"Better a known risk than an unknown one."
"Vaping is too complicated and unreliable."
"My grandpa smoked all his life and lived to 90 years old. I've got good genes."
or when all else fails
"Vaping makes you look like a douche."

Cut to the meat of it and say, "Why do you feel threatened by my vaping? You don't see me hassling you about your cancer sticks. I think you're just afraid that if you tried it you might like it."

I weighed my options on how to respond. Made it real brief and said " Can't believe the news man. It helped me quit smoking which is actually worse despite what you may of heard and a heck of a lot cheaper"
A very good comeback. It's easy to craft a response when the moment has passed, but you performed on the spot.

suaviter in modo, fortiter in re; 'gentleness of manner, with firmness of mind'.

Lots of people fall into the category where, "If it looks like a duck ...". Vaping does look exactly like smoking until they realize it doesn't smell like a cigarette. Still, they repeat what they have heard about vaping.

The most effective statement about something new is, "Well, it's too new and we haven't had enough time to do the testing". That's still a lame statement. There's been fairly extensive testing right down to the spectrographic level and the chief danger is said to be Acrolein and Formaldehyde production if you hit temperatures in the 550F plus range.

Most of us would gag at those temps, even with juice saturating the wick.

That argument never stopped the FSA from approving drugs for public consumption, so long as the manufacturer spent billions on developing it, and has billions to pay for the inevitable lawsuits...

Not to mention oleatra....

And when people ask if they can hit my mod, they usually think it has something other than nicotine in it.

The trouble is people are misinformed or not informed, you try to tell them but many just won't have it. Those are people I wan't to say "kiss my ar**" to but I don't. I just say "oh well we will just have to agree to differ" and leave it at that.
Or kick em in the Nuts...........................no no no so sorry that's what I'm thinking

True, people like to jump on things that are new and things that look like other things that ARE dangerous.

The usual comment is that "Those thing are just as bad as smoking." I smile and ask them what's bad in vapor. They usually stutter a little and come up with something like, "I heard it on TV" or "They have Formaldehyde in them". There's little gain in trying to convince them. although outspoken me has to inform them that the Formaldehyde thing only occurs if you crank the wattage to the point where the juice gets burned into something no one would want to vape, anyway. It's not something that any vaper would want to do.

Yep....most smokers know how dangerous smoking is, deep down inside they probably feel that vaping could be a safer way, so when they hear all the b/s they side with it to justify their smoking.

It's like that story about multiple vapors having lung issues recently. I read the thread last week and the night before last seen it on the tv news....it was THE DANGERS OF VAPING ... they say theres so much we dont know about it, mentioned teen vaping and a bunch of b/s, then they causally mention that they bought the juice off the streets and it contained illegal drugs. WTH!!! What The average person is going to take from that, is vaping is jusf bad for you.. so half of the report was b/s and the second half was just somebody kind of OD-ing from some drugs...

When your exhale looks like this even us toodle puffers whince in pain watching.

I'm often asked "is that thing even turned on?" when I vape around smokers.

I never let anyone else try my vape device. Drunk friend dropped it! Other friend seemed afraid of inhaling so he just held it up to his wide open mouth and held the fire button... goodbye new coil. They may not understand MTL and not used to vaping so they do a big DTL and cough (that's why the one guy dropped it) Even a seasoned vaper might not realize my little device is not made for massive clouds and vape the heck out of it for long times... goodbye to another new coil... and so on. I won't even mention about someone with that nasty blister on their lip (that's from a movie... the guy says "I just cut myself shaving"... sure buddy, like I believe that) Even if their mouth is clean, they hand it back to you and it's covered in peanut butter and jelly, pizza grease, or even used motor oil.

With the uneven amount of vapor coming out of his 2 nostrils, he must:

A) Have a really deviated septum or
B) Really need to get the dirt, snot, etc. out of his left nostril or
C) Have something (like a growth) in his nose that needs to be checked by a doctor

I don't even bother anymore. @Rossum is correct. It's working, and in a big way.

I'm at the point now that if someone is dumb enough to say anything to me (I'm not very "approachable" by sight, believe it or not), I'd just spit back:

"200 people die in car accidents every single day. So assuming you've driven today, mind your own business."

SO tired of the bull:censored:.

:-x

Unbelievable, truly & completely.
