Around here, smoking was never considered a "masculine" thing to do. Some types of cigs were more frequented by men (reds), but I've never heard a comment about smoking being manly at all. Most people I knew growing up smoked, boys and girls.
Now as a girl, however, I do remember several occasions where people would try to encourage me to quit by emphasizing how much less "pretty" I'll be - I'll have ugly surgery scars, I'll have stained yellow teeth, I'll get wrinkles (who doesn't get wrinkles anyway??)... the yucky part about all that was that these were always, ALWAYS, comments made to me when I was a teenager by old men
in other words, the people who apparently valued my beauty the most 
gross!
On a side note, the dumbest thing I've heard about the coolness of vaping is from my one friend who says that the modern, ego-style vaporizers that are popular around here "look stupid"
he stands by blus and other cigalikes because he thinks they look cool... needless to say he still smokes

The other night I was at a venue watching a show: inside you cannot smoke (lots of people were vaping tho...) OUTSIDE you can smoke cigs. I went outside with my gf because she wanted to have a smoke, so I pulled out my vape and started vaping along her side. A group of guys approached me and started lecturing me about how I should "smoke the real thing." Of course i chalked this up to ignorance and perhaps an easy-in to start "a convo" with me where they could assert their marbroly manliness. Has this ever happened to you? Or anything like this? To me, it felt like attacking vaping was the "in" which is lame.
Kinda stupid way to try making a conversation with a girl , If i were them I would simply ask you about it and not troll you .
One day at the VA smoking area, a macho guy who said... within my ear shot... that (paraphrasing) vaping was for whimps who couldn't handle the "real thing" (smoking) got my attention. He was a complete stranger but I couldn't resist.... had a PV loaded with 36mg nic in my purse... pulled it out, put a clean drip tip on it and cranked it up to 10 watts before I approached him with "oh, really, then you won't have a problem trying it... right?" He had to take my challenge as he was being a blow hard in front of half-dozen other guys.... bwahahahah.... just evil I know but when he got through choking/coughing he handed my PV back without another word and I returned to my quiet corner equally silent but with a smile.

I've only vaped not even quite 2 years yet and have only been off the real thing completely for 2 months (in another week). There is a lot I don't know about vaping. There is a lot I don't know about a lot of things.

Vaping is way more techy and nerdy in a way than smoking. It's like comparing a jock to a geek/nerd. Yea sure the jocks might seem more manly... but they're also more arrogant and always think they're better than the geeks, but the geeks are the smart ones and think they're better than the jocks. Eh... bad metaphor but you know what I mean. The main negative thing that I get from strangers about vaping are people who think its worse than cigarettes and act annoyed when I'm vaping around them when they are smoking cigarettes. Depending on their attitude towards me and openness, I will explain it to them if they are willing to listen, if they're not that type, then I just say "Well, smoking is DEFINITELY bad for you. No one can deny that. You might have randomly heard somewhere that vaping is worse than smoking, but I know it's not because I've done my research. I like vaping and will continue to do so, and you can keep smoking if that is what you want and believe." Or something along the lines of that... they have probably walked off by then.
Tell them smoking could turn them into a 'Jaffa' .

I have to say that vaping is much sexier than smoking ever was. I would have asked the guy what exactly he was referring to as bad in ecigs and let him either look like a stump or tell me all the ignorant info out there, then I would commence to explaining the truth about ecigs.
